Harry Potter wand tutorial + costume snapshotsHarry Potter wand progress/tutorial
I'm not sure if this can really count as a tutorial because I feel I didn't take enough photos, but I thought I'd share how I made my wand for Harry Potter cosplay. It's made with things I had lying around at home. Miguel :iconmerkymerx: helped me out a lot with his suggestions!
I started with these A paintbrush, a hot glue/gluegun stick, some tape, a brown paper bag, and some foil. Paintbrushes are very good bases for wands because of the shape and material. This once I particularly fancied because of the beautiful color and finish of the handle.
The brush was too short by itself, so I had to extend the other end somehow. Feeling very silly, I stuck the hot glue stick into the head of the brush, right in the middle of the bristles, and taped it into place. Sadly I did not get a photo of how it looked then. I tore of a bit of the brown paper bag and wrapped it around the glue stick for added stability, and taped that into place as well. (Yo

Since there is a number of you that commented to say they liked the lenses but:
1. Need a higher prescription (-6.00 to -10.00)
2. Need lenses of mismatched prescriptions (ex. left eye -3.75 right eye -4.50)
3. Require prescriptions that are of +.25 steps. (ex. -1.25, -2.75 etc)
I thought I should let you know that you can now make custom orders for them over here http://www.aliceandrabbitshop.com/customorders.htm
There are new lens models up for order too! And as always, if you have any questions or inquiries, don't be afraid to write to my friends at Alice and Rabbit's Shop using their contact form http://www.aliceandrabbitshop.com/contactus.htm They're very nice and accommodating!

First of all, let me warn you that by the end of this journal entry, you may find yourself sick of my face. (If you aren't already.) I'll be using mostly myself as an example for the things I'm going to discuss, because I'm the only person I can poke fun at without restrictions.
I get asked a lot of questions about these cosplay photos that most of you have come to know me for. Sometimes it's about the techniques we use, requests for tips and advice for other people who want to do something similar. Other times, the comments come from people who aren't familiar with cosplay, but are curious about it and are interested to know more. So I thought of making this li

Many, many months ago last July (that's how late this entry is) a cosplay event was held in the most beautiful location that the local cosplay community has ever seen. Fernbrook Gardens the wedding & events destination which you might recognize from our Kuroshitsuji http://behindinfinity.deviantart.com/gallery/29228688 and Harry Potter cosplay photoshoots http://behindinfinity.deviantart.com/gallery/31767781
It was around that time that the world was getting ready for the final Harry Potter movie, so my friends and I decided that perhaps it was about time to push through with our plans to cosplay Harry Potter characters. Parts of Fernbrook Gardens also looked like Hogwarts so we figured it would be appropriate.
Photos are from my friends, some from albums I was tagged in on Facebook, and some from my own camera.
Here I am with most of my friends that I went to the event with, along with Arnel akagii2004 whom we met that day as he was
On Art Schools + Art Style: A response to EndlingEndling posted this [click here] answer to a questioned by one of his followers on Tumblr. On Art Schools + Art Style: A response to Endling2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It pertains to how his art school and supporters treated/reacted to his particular art style in an academic and professional setting. Give that a read first then come back here.
I posted a response to it that I also wanted to share on my DeviantART. (If you're getting tired of me ranting about my experience at school, sorry, but this stuff means a LOT to me. I want to try to inform other people of what my time was like there so that if YOU go, you're all the wiser.) Response was as follows:
This is partially one of my problems with art schools at this point in time. They're ridiculously expensive, and because of the rapid change in art/media industry and culture, fall into generally one of these two categories:
1) They typically have instructors who are remnants of doing their bes

It was so unbelievable, I have to tell you.
So a couple of days ago I checked my DA Notes and there was a pile of messages waiting for me. I haven't been able to check DA often as of late due to work and the fact that my Computer has been dying and I've been trying to avoid using it as much as possible until my new Computer arrives. ANYWAY, I was surprised to find a note from my friend, masa-kocha. I opened it, and this is what it said:
She also happened to be my coworker, and sat like... right across from me. Curiouser and curiouser why she would note me instead of just asking me directly
Free! Iwatobi Swim Club cosplay shoot outtakes! When my friends and I first heard of "that swimming anime" called Free!, this is pretty much what we expected:Free! Iwatobi Swim Club cosplay shoot outtakes!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Not that there's anything wrong with that hahah, but all we were expecting was to be able to laugh at how exploitable and full of fanservice this show could be because swimming would require everyone to be half-naked. Although it started out that way, the more episodes we watched, the more we realized...
We were wrong. So wrong.
What we got was a heartwarming coming-of-age story with endearing characters and interesting dynamics. It spoke of friendship and learning your self-worth and figuring out what drives you forward.
I'd write more about how I feel about it but it would take up too much time and space over here, so here are a couple of posts that have already done the job well:

Basic Art Elements: LineHerro people! I've been giving this much thought and have decided to include along with our "Common Misconceptions" series a series based in the basic art elements followed by the principals of design. There are seven basic art elements as follows:Basic Art Elements: Line2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The purpose of knowing this list and understanding each element is to help you make good decisions compositionally as well as help you with formal analysis. Formal analysis is an identification of the basic art elements in a work of art which is useful in critique and also understanding the artist's choices in composition. Ideally, a piece that we would call "successful" would have each of the seven elements here present in some way, as well as the principles of design. A lot of our choices in art making can be either arbitrary or intuitive. Neither are inherently bad, but making choices that have a sound base in these elements will help you with some of the compositional conundrums we artists fa
The Rurouni Kenshin Movie ExperienceSome months ago, a rumor surfaced that they would be showing the Rurouni Kenshin live action movie at our theaters here in the Philippines. After some weeks of torture, we were finally given an official confirmation and screening date! The day they started selling tickets online, I got a bunch for me and my friends, even though it was a couple of months too early, hahah! The Rurouni Kenshin Movie Experience2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Nearing the screening date, I received a wonderful surprise from :iconup-ame: UP-AME.org.
They invited me to be a guest and cosplay competition judge for Swordplay, a Rurouni Kenshin fan event, and also to the special advanced screening days before the official screening date. I've often thought that if there is one cosplay I would like people to remember me by, it would be Kenshin. I was very honored and touched that they had thought of including me to a day celebrating a series that means so much to me, and a movie I had been looking forward to for ages.

Now, a giant Pinkie update!
Some people had suggested that I use foam in Pinkie for various reason, and I decided it would be worth a try. Here are my thoughts and results!
I used upholstery foam(or foam cushioning as some might know it) because it's thick, regains its shape even if it's crushed, and it's available at Wal Mart in large quantities ahah.
First off it was more expensive than I expected, but still not horrendously expensive. I bought a 48"x72" piece for $65. This is enough for one and a half ponie. Second, I really underestimated its weight. This stuff is HEAVY. I was hoping to reduce Pinkie's weight by using this foam, but that didn't happen.
Fitting it in the plush:
I measured and cut large strips of the foam and rolled them up so they would fit through the body. I didn't roll them supe

Revisiting Naruto cosplay + Road to Ninja Movie! So I've heard of this film for a long while, but never got to watch it for lack of a proper subbed copy/DVD release. PayPal users ATTENTIONThis is important, especially if you're underage, registered underage or if you have any issues with PayPalPayPal users ATTENTION7 months ago in Personal More Like This
I recently ran into a problem concerning my PayPal account and it was something I had no idea of and I’m quite sure a lot of people aren’t aware that it is a thing and on the top of that a serious one. I though I’d spread the knowledge before someone has to go through the same stress as I did.
(A detailed explanation of my issue and how I resolved it. What to do if any problem occurs explained later in the post.)
When you create your account you are supposed to read and agree to the terms of agreement. A lot of you probably just skip through it if that but hear me out when I say that PayPal does take the terms of agreement very seriously. The site is about finances after all so naturally they would like to pay attention to the security of the site and its users.
You probably all agree that all kinds of scamming etc. obvious violations are wrong and you

Best part about this tool is that you can say that you only want clothed figures if you're uncomfortable with nudity.

Tips: how to enjoy painting long hoursI am not a natural painter. I am a natural sequential artist who is used to doing large amount of images to tell a story.Tips: how to enjoy painting long hours2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I want to paint the highly detailed paintings I adore looking at, but I tend to want to give up half way before the paintings get anywhere I would say "Wow" to.
I hit a wall for a while, my wall is: I just can't keep myself interested enough to make myself stay on the same piece for a long time!
I couldn't bring myself to spend on a painting that is my own for over 20-30 hours... while others can spend up to 80-100 hours on solid hours. I have no problem doing it for commercial work, or for clients, because the nature of those work hours are short, but when it comes to my own work, I need a break through on my hours of devotion.
Just when I was about to settle on: "Is this a personality trait I can't change? Is this something I have to be born with?"
While I believe that if I have the urge to do it, it's within me. If I adore it, there is a quality in me to d

Time flew by very fast, and before we knew it...
Our first day was spent doing a lot of eating, thanks to our guide Alyssa I will justify it as us fueling up for an action-packed weekend! We tried nasi lemak for the first time (LOVED IT), had some shaved ice desserts after, then a big dinner of clay pot rice, stir-fry noodles with clams, really tasty chicken wings, etc. and THEN we still raided Pick N' Pay for our midnight snacks because we love convenience stores and we wanted to try things we don't have in Manila.
We planned our cosplays ahead with Team Kachang Puteh, the guests from Singapore. Our theme for the first day of HobbyCon was Shingeki no Kyojin!

So we went to Toycon last Saturday and as usual I... didn't really get to take pictures of toys and stuff. It was like a river of people with an actual current, hahah! Sometimes I'd find a friend to chat with but we'd eventually be pulled apart by the tide, it was kind of funny.
I wanted to wear something simple and comfortable so I posted on my Facebook that I would wear my old Ichigo cosplay in his Karakura High uniform. The Bleach manga is so crazy now that it just made me miss the days when Bleach was simple.
I think this is the last decent picture of myself that I have wearing this, and it was taken ages ago.

I felt like I've been needing to do coloring practice but wasn't exactly in the mood to draw. I took out my PAINT JUMP: Art of Naruto book, picked my favorite illustration, scanned it and started coloring in Photoshop.
This is the original colored spread by Masashi Kishimoto: http://www.narutobase.net/manga/Naruto/226/2
This was the chapter where Naruto and Sasuke face off in the Valley of the End. Those who follow the manga will know how much significance lies in there but I'll spare you my rambling or else I may never get to the point of this journal.
This is one of my favorite Naruto illustrations because it showcases two of the things I really love about Kishimoto's art - insane perspective and incredible e
