An awesome concept and interesting look into artists and their environment. Was a little self conscience at first having so many pictures taken of me and my home/workspace but it didn't take me long to get comfortable as the shoot was pretty laid back. The tough part was actually doing the writing!
I hope you dig it! It was super rad!

Secrets On How ToAlright I guess I'm gonna make another rant, and this one's been bugging me for the longest time. And I'm going to be as BLUNT as I will be and not sugar coat anything I'm about to say.Secrets On How To2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Often do I hear things like:
"what custom brushes do you use"
"how do you achieve this blur/ focus effect"
"how did you get the colors to go this way and that"
"what technique or computer program did you use"
What I rarely get asked for is:
"What did you study to be more efficient at drawing."
"What is an efficient way to study how to render certain types of materials"
"How do you practice proper lighting when painting?"
Guys I'm just gonna say it now, there's no shortcut to art. I work primarily in digital mediums now but I do have a solid foundation in traditional mediums. I didn't simply go out and buy a $400 tablet and instantly got to where I am today. I use custom brushes and special effects in my pieces, but they only take up less than 3% of the overall work. There's sti

That got me thinking he has a different point of view of how been a Pro means to me. For me Pro doesnt mean professional, its a short word for PROMISE. Pro artists are people that can keep a promsie, and thats really important. Its so sad when they relate Pro word to art skills, its like they draw this red line on the floor and they measure people who can get in and who gets out. When its the moment when an artist feel

The 101 Guide To Marketing For ArtistsSlowly I get to catch up with deviations on here, now I just need to make use of the journals more oftenThe 101 Guide To Marketing For Artists8 months ago in Personal More Like This
There are some things I would be glad, someone would have told me earlier...
Marketing is such a thing - since I´m freelancing 5 years now it is save to say that is no accident that I´m happily blessed with the "just right" clients and it all boils down to be due to authentic marketing. Honestly- I embrace everything that has to do with it, below you find my write up to get a better understanding of what it is all about.
I always found interest in psychology and marketing but when I jumped on the freelancing train 5 years ago I especially embraced anything that I could find to help me understand, use and practice marketing as a way to keep myself busy with work that I love to do and to collaborate with people who respect what I do.
In the process I learned much from many different experts and in this post I will forward what I´ve learn
10 ways to become a better artistDear, deviantart fellow artists10 ways to become a better artist4 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
How to become better at art? How to gain necessary skill and how to stay motivated and inspired?
There are no right, or wrong answers to these questions, as we all are different and we have our own creative journeys - but here are some of my thoughts about the topic and I hope that they might be helpful.
1. Make art with your heart
Make the art that you enjoy to create. Make what resonates with you, put your heart in it (not literally) and it will show through your artworks.
2. Be consistent
Commit to yourself. Do something daily, even if it's just a sketch. Perhaps, do a study every morning or make speedpaintings. You may not see the progress at first, but you shouldn't get discouraged by that. Not every single one of your artworks has to be a masterpiece and it's totally okay to have a bad drawing every once

Send me Sci-fi/Space Art DD SuggestionsPlease help spread the word by adding this Blog to your FavsSend me Sci-fi/Space Art DD Suggestions3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I have just recently received the opportunity to become the "Science Fiction and Space Art" Community Volunteer Gallery Moderator here on deviantART.
I am looking for "Science Fiction and Space Art" deviations to feature as Daily Deviations, and you can help.
If you know of any submissions that you think should gain more exposure and be Featured as a Daily Deviation,
and they are "Science Fiction and/or Space Art"related, send me a DD Suggestion via note.
I have info on my front page regarding how to suggest a DD if you have any questions.
I would prefer suggestions for artists that have less exposure and little to no previous DD's,
but I am not against awarding a Daily Deviation to worthy art from a more well known and decorated artist.
I simply want to try to focus on putting a spotlight on lesser known artists that have amazing art to share, so that their work ma

What program do you use?
Paint Tool Sai, Get it here or if that doesnt work, here
What size canvas do you work on?
I usually work on 2000x2000px, although I never use the whole thing, most drawings are cropped to roughly 1000x1000px in size. I recommend using a canvas bigger than what you want to draw!
What Tool do you use in SAI?
Here! I have no advanced settings, this is almost default. My stabiliser is on, any setting is fine as long as it's smooth!
May I use your artwork for my project?
Yes you can, Only, please let me know first.
May I use your art as an Icon?
Of course!! You don't need to ask.
Do you mind if I colour one of your sketches?
Go ahead, I rarely ever say no! Please show me too!!

Thoughts on developing a good styleA common question I get asked is how to develop a good style.Thoughts on developing a good style4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Here are some of my thoughts on this subject...
Don't think what kind of style do people want. Just be yourself & search for knowledge. Style is developed through knowledge.
Just painting or drawing how you naturally do is not enough to develop a good solid style. If art is an interpretation of something we can relate to LIFE, then you have to learn about the different aspects of LIFE to get better at art. Nothing is sadder than seeing an artist with a great idea but doesn't have the knowledge or skill to make it happen the way they had initially envisioned it. I still have this problem from time to time so I search for the knowledge and know how to make the idea I initially had to appear the way I want it to.
Your ideas are what makes you unique. Once you have the idea, you search for the knowledge to make those ideas happen the way you envisioned it. I don't know about all of you but I can bet that when most of you learn s

In response to this, Anonymous launched their biggest attack ever against organizations like the MPAA, RIAA etc and took down their websites.
Since the SOPA protest was received extremely well, it'll be exciting to see what other political moves the internet can make in future.
The fascists won't be able to beat down protesters on the internet like they did with Occupy Wall Street.
7 important traits for any artistHere's a checklist of 7 important traits to becoming a successful artist. It's not the 'ultimate top 7' but these are the questions I thought of first. Either way they are extremely beneficial questions to ask yourself.7 important traits for any artist4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
1 Do you draw even when you don't feel like it? It's an essential skill to being a successful artist.
2 Do you know what motivates you? The more you know about what makes you tick, the more productive you can become.
3 Do you constantly fight past your comfort zone? It's the best way to evolve quickly.
4 Do you set aside some time at least once a week to work on your own stuff? Keep those creative juices flowing!
5 Are you passionate about the work that you do? Keeping the passion burning will lead you to bigger and better jobs. Everyone wants to work with passionate people.
6 Are you prepared for the opportunities you're waiting for? Prepare for the opportunity now and they will come sooner than you think.
7 Are you nice to others? The most important ingredient to beco
