i had the idea to do a kind of farewell to elisabeth sladen/sarah jane smith wallpaper. i didn't know how i would go about making it, but it wasn't until i went looking through every photo i had on my navi that had her that i came across 2 images that stood out and gave me the inspiration.
the tenth doctor hugging sarah jane and then her walking away with K-9 into the distance. after editing the two, i then added an image of a night sky underneath them, colored it purple and adjusted the opacity of her walking away to look like she was walking into the stars.
then for the final touch, the tenth doctor's goodbye to her at the end of 'school reunion': "goodbye, my sarah jane." originally, i was going to have a center image of her alone and the images of her hugging the doctor and her walking away on the opposite sides of her. it didn't work heh. although, i think it looks better this way.
images came from official BBC wallpapers. can't remember where the background came from. font is second lyrics.
The following was taken from my blog. You can read the full post here: [link]
...It was devastating to fans to hear that Lis Sladen had passed away, and so suddenly. I was absolutely gutted and didn't want to believe it, even as more and more sources began confirming it. I had always wanted to meet her one day, but now I will never get that chance. And now there are tribute pages and tribute art, stories from people who knew her, and even a link on the Sarah Jane Adventures website to help parents in comforting their children about Lis Sladen's passing. I love so, SO much that she had this resurgence of popularity late in her career, and that the character of Sarah Jane Smith could be introduced to new fans, and to children. How wonderful.
I cannot imagine how devastating Lis' passing must be to her friends and family. My heart aches for them. She left behind such a wonderful legacy.
There are many pieces of tribute art popping up online. And, after taking some time to process things and deal in my own way, I decided that I didn't want to do something sad. Sarah and the Doctor had a special relationship, and neither wanted to part. Sarah was there with the Doctor through it all because she wanted to be. I loved that when she did leave, it was out of necessity and was forced upon them, rather than having her written out of character and marrying someone she'd just met, or deciding she'd had enough of traveling. Doctor Who companions come and go, but Sarah Jane was special. And so was Lis Sladen.
So, I decided to draw a picture of one of the happier adventures the Doctor and Sarah may have had. Not sad, but looking to the future. Because Sarah Jane Smith will always live on.
This piece was done in Manga Studio, with colors in Photoshop.
I've always liked the thought that Bad Wolf was both Rose and the TARDIS, and of them having some sort of lingering affinity/friendship because of it.
And Neil Gaiman, geeze, I've been in love with you since I was 13, and now YOU GAVE ME A PERSONIFIED VERSION OF THE TARDIS TO PLAY WITH. you're like the gift that never stops giving...
Ever since The Doctor's Wife aired I've been doodling ridiculous little sketches of these two in the margins of everything - painting each others nails, going shopping, plotting against the Doctorgossiping about the doctor... you know, girl stuff.
A quick thing I did after watching ep1 of season 6. Ahhh, I feel so sad that I couldn't convey the feeling I originally had in mind. But nevertheless, that quote is just too touching because it came from the Doctor himself.
