"It's absolutely wonderful to have you back home, my faithful student," Princess Celestia said to Twilight as she walked with her along the corridor that would lead to the East Wing of Canterlot Castle where the guest rooms were. "I've missed you terribly, you know."
Twilight suppressed a squeal of delight. The Princess had missed her? Oh, the things she wanted to say in reply but all she could was blush crimson and whisper, in a voice embarrassingly heavy with emotion: "I've missed you too, Princess "
"It's such a shame that you can't stay in your old tower," Celestia continued as they passed a series of huge stained-glass windows interspersed with tapestries thousands of years old portraying the history of Equestria. "I'm afraid the renovations are really quite untimely."
"It's alright, Princess," Twilight replied, looking at each of the tapestries thoughtfully as they passe
Friendship is Magic: a ReviewNostalgia can be a funny thing it's the sort of emotional impulse that makes a man do crazy things. Things like purchasing the "Sonic Underground" box-set, simply because I enjoyed it as a kid. But there's something inherently disappointing about nostalgia; the realisation that these experiences often remain a part of our childhood for a reason. Watching "Sonic Underground" as a 19-year old is a very different experience to watching it as a youngster on Saturday mornings. The once beloved show now appears to me as a train-wreck of embarrassing musical montages, repetitive pacing and rather dated animation. Getting old is no fun when it brings out the critic within.Friendship is Magic: a Review4 years ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
Thankfully, I have re-ignited that joyous spark of infancy after watching "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"; a show that for me is not mired by any form of nostalgic bias. After all, prior to "Friendship is Magic" I'd never even considered watching anything related to the My Little Pony franchise. Having watched s
Oh Great You Again (Chapter 1)felt my body again as my magenta eyes began to slowly open. I could see the dark night sky being lit up by just thousands upon thousands of stars, and the moon just perfect as always. Why did my body feel so heavy? Maybe because it was for the first time I actually relaxed without being always on the edge. My head was hurting a bit, but I don't remember what even knocked me out in the first place. As my eyes adjusted I remembered that I had been walking into one of the temples and then everything went black. Damn it! Why wasn't I more aware of my surroundings more often? Nevermind that. As I got up, I felt that my hat was gone.Oh Great You Again (Chapter 1)2 years ago in General Fiction More Like This

As usual, she kept her head down to avoid any awkward comments about her, erm, eye issues, but glanced up to see Pinkie bouncing around behind the counter. "Can I help with anything?"
"Oh, no, don't be silly! You're a guest, and Mrs Cake is still sleeping so I get to try this new recipe that I've been thinking about for a while now. Come look!"
As Ditzy wandered behind the counter, Pinkie pulled her closer and pointed a hoof at the bowl.
"It's going to be a caramel mudcake, with real mud. I figured Rarity is always going on about how mud is SOOOO good for the skin, and caramel is sooooooo tasty that putting the two together seemed like a great idea! I mean, why would anyone call it a mudcake if they didn't want to put mud in it? They wouldn't! Duh!"
To be honest, the cake looked a bit off. Ditzy blushed inadverte

Part Two of Two
Pinkie Pie was grinning from ear to ear as she bounced excitedly in her room within Sugarcube Corner. Twilight Sparkle was taking her on a date. She had never been on a real date before, but it sounded super fun, especially since it was Twilight and she was such a great pony. Pinkie just couldn't wait.
Suddenly, Pinkie decided she was hungry. Her head bouncing from side to side, she left her room and went downstairs. She saw some tasty looking pink cupcakes resting on a tray on a table. She threw three of them in her mouth all at once and gulped them down with a smile. They were super delicious. Pinkie's whole body quivered as she enjoyed the amazing flavor.
"Enjoying yourself, Pinkie?" Mrs. Cake, who was standing nearby, asked with an awkward laugh as she watched the pink pony. Pinkie glanced at her.
"Yep, yep! These are super tasty!" Pinkie cheered, bouncing toward her caretaker.
"That's nice, dearie..." said the older mar

Today I learned that friendships and romances aren't always fated- and sometimes, they're found in the unlikeliest of places.
Your faithful student,
Ditzy Doo drifted idly down the road, finishing up her mail route. It had been a long morning with not much sleep, culminating in her bumping into Fluttershy's mailbox and scaring half of the yellow pegasus's chickens- as a matter of fact, her mane still had a few loose feathers hanging from it. Winter always seemed so long and miserable these days, considering she didn't have a warm fillyfriend to come home to. Ugh, no wonder her concentration wasn't the best lately. All she could think about was someone to nuzzle with.
As she wandered, yawning a little, past Twilight Sparkle's house (only one piece of mail for her house, addressed to that little dragon. Some sort of... moustache catalogue?), Ditzy thought longingly about breakfast. Some days, it felt like her wings were made of lead. Weavi

Fluttershy was just waking up and as she opened her eyes, she saw pink and blue. Her vision cleared, and she could see a grin as well. Normally, this would be quite a shock but on this morning, it felt different.
"Good morning, Pinkie," Fluttershy said yawning.
"Good morning sleepy head," Pinkie whispered.
"Why are you whispering?"
"Cause you're just waking up and my rudeness stops at breaking and entering." She looked up lost in thought and then mused, "Does it count as breaking and entering if the door isn't eve
Surprise PartyJust one last tree and this row will be done. Applejack lifted her rear legs and gave the apple tree a buck causing apples to fall into the buckets. She smiled as she looked over the orchard of her home, Sweet Apple Acres. There was still much more work to do, and the sun was about to set. 'I best not get myself too far behind,' Applejack thought. She gathered the few stray apples that missed the buckets and loaded the buckets onto the cart.Surprise Party4 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Those buckets were heavy. It made her mad that her big brother, Big Macintosh, could carry three full buckets on his back, while she could only manage one at a time. 'Not today big brother.' She grunted in exertion and managed to get two buckets on her back. She strained to stand and walked slowly to the cart. She began to slow down due to the weight of the apples, so with gritted teeth she pushed herself harder. 'Come on Applejack, you ain't the most dependable of ponies for nothing.'
Applejack walked around the cart and lowered herself to set dow

The doe-eyed girl peered out the window of Lorule castle. Her fingers traced the indentation of the Triforce on her armor – something she did often. She hung her head in defeat.
"Lorule will be lost forever...unless I do...something..."
Her attendant, Yuga watched her from across the room. "You look so lovely, Your Grace. How I'd love to...paint you..."
Yuga was cut off after Hilda shot him an icy glare. How dare he say something like that when she felt so miserable. She wasn't in the mood to have this moment recorded in a painting. Yuga's idea of 'beauty' was so very incomprehensible, even to her.
"You wish to restore Lorule? I think I may be of some assistance to you." His voice was pleasant and soft.
"How? What could possibly fix this?"
"Come with me. I've made a discovery that I believe you'll be very pleased with." Yuga gri
FiM: Mort Takes a Holiday 2Twilight Sparkle looked at the pendulum clock that hung on the wall, the hands showing that the night was getting late. Stifling a yawn, she rubbed the bags from under her eyes and returned her attention to the matter at hoof; her friends had become involved in a dangerous, high-stakes, winner-take-all game. One that, at any moment, could send any one of them tumbling into an abyss that was virtually impossible to escape. Success or failure, it all rode on a little strategy, some negotiation skills, and a lot of luck.FiM: Mort Takes a Holiday 24 years ago in General Fiction More Like This

The dice rolled across the cardboard Ponopoly game board, until one and two dots came up on the two die.
Twilight Sparkle moaned miserably as she moved her tiara game piece three spaces, landing on one of the more nefarious squares: GO TO JAIL.

The Princess in the High TowerA Humanised Pony Tale: The Princess in the High TowerThe Princess in the High Tower5 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
The late night breeze was cold against Luna's face as she gazed down from the window of her chamber high in one of the tallest towers of Canterlot Castle. It blew in around her, setting the tapestries on the walls of her bedroom flapping fitfully. Far below, she could see all of Equestria, covered in darkness, and she watched as one by one the pretty yellow lights of the inhabitants' houses scattered across the blue and grey landscape winked out, leaving everything dark and still.
She looked up at the moon a mere sliver of anaemic yellow against the black sky, barely brighter than the tiny trembling stars that encircled it, and she thought back to how it had been so different once, a thousand years ago. Her moon had glowed fiercely then, fierce and beautiful, and Equestria had enjoyed a night-time wonderland where everything her light touched sparkled with an aura of blue-silver.
Whenever the people of Equestria told the lege
FiM: Mort Takes a Holiday 3The clock seem to tick very slowly in the quiet bedroom. Mort risked one glanceconfirming it was almost time for the sunrisebefore returning his focus towards the spell book in front of him. He read the instructions for the illusion spell over and over again, mentally going over each step. The Candy Mountain game board was laid out next to the bed, its cards scattered on both sides, filled with descriptions that were both saccharine and lurid, written by a bored princess and an indifferent pony shade a thousand years ago. He briefly looked over the top of the book, seeing Luna looking at him with eyes that were patient, eager and drowsy.FiM: Mort Takes a Holiday 34 years ago in General Fiction More Like This

Dinner Date pt. 1Another day, another sky to clear. That thought kept passing through Rainbow Dash's mind as she flew about Ponyville kicking clouds. She would look down and see other ponies going about their business, and Rainbow would notice that, once again, other pegasus ponies wouldn't fly as high as her. From this height, she could see the extent of her work, and she figured that it was enough for today. She planned to settle in for a nap, but something caught her attention. This something happened to be a yellow pegasus flying into Ponyville, and while Rainbow knew that her friend, Fluttershy, often flew into town, this was the first time she'd seen her fly at this speed. "She looks like a pony on a mission," Rainbow said.
Opting to investigate instead of taking a nap, she flew down toward her friend.

The sound is so startling I almost scream. I don't, though; that could wake Angel, or that poor turtle I took in yesterday. His shell is so badly cracked, he needs all the rest he can get, and I wouldn't want to disturb him by screaming. I do hope the crash didn't wake him. Oh, and I hope whatever crashed is alright. Him Part 2Him. The one that robbed her of her innocence was standing before her. After all these years Fluttershy could still see the cruelty in his eyes even though they were currently filled with fear. Her mind raced with old memories. The sick smell of the hospital emergency room, the pain of her broken ribs, the weeks spent relearning how to speak while her larynx slowly healed, and the condescending therapists who would constantly tell her nothing was ever her fault. All of these flashed in her mind and she decided that this stallion had to die. "How are those cupcakes coming along, Pinkie?" Twilight poked her head into Sugarcube Corner from the street.
Pinkie Pie was puffing as she carried out a tray of cupcakes and placed them on a bench to cool. She wiped her forehead. "They're almost finished, Twilight! This was the last batch phew! I'm a pooped little Pinkie!"
"Augh!" muttered Spike, his little purple scaly head appearing under Twilight's. "How in Equestria did everything get so messy in here, Pinkie Pie?"
The inside of the bakery was a scene of confectionary cataclysm. Multi-coloured frosting coated the walls, icing sugar and flour floated about in little clouds, and the baker herself was covered in batter.

Good job, Rainbow Dash, I think to myself. You're a Wonderbolt now, and here you are, still crashing into things.
On the bright side, I just hit the ground in front of Fluttershy's house. I didn't crash right through any buildings -- which, yeah, I've done more times than I care to admit -- and I didn't knock anything, or anypony, over.
My head begins to clear from the crash landing, but then I'm filled with nervousness. I haven't seen Fluttershy since joining the Wonderbolts. I haven't seen any of my old friends lately, and maybe it'd have been a better idea to see all of them together later, but too late, I've crashed in front of Fluttershy's door in the middle of the night and I can't back out now. I've got to do this.
I shake off the dirt before knocking.

FiM: Mort Takes a Holiday 8Mort's reasoning for avoiding crowds was two-fold. For starters, he didn't feel comfortable in crowds, or rather, he didn't feel comfortable being visible in crowds. Plagues or fires were one thing, as there was a clear goal in what he had to do, and the recently departed almost always asked the same questions every time. They had become, more or less, a predictable affair.FiM: Mort Takes a Holiday 84 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
Living crowds, on the other hoof, he had no idea on where to even begin. There was no clear cut purpose, no specific goal. Some ponies stood to the sidelines, enjoying the beverages and treats, some sought out particular ponies, some jumped in conversations in progress, and some just moved through the crowds, hoping somepony else would speak with them. It was terribly disorganized, and for someone who had lived according to a strict schedule for his whole existence, he had a hard time seeing how one could enjoy it.
Parties, concerts, celebrations, festivals, carnivals...it was one thing to watch them.
FiM: Mort Takes a Holiday 9A huge grin appeared on Pinkie Pie's face. "Morty~," she said, in a sing-song voice. It wasn't just her who was looking at him now, it was every pony in the room. There was a sudden shove from behind, and he found himself stumbling forward, stopping just a few inches from Pinkie Pie's beaming face. He twisted his head around to see who had done it, but only had time to see Twilight Sparkle's own confused face before he was grabbed by Pinkie Pie.
"Yay!" she said, spinning him around like they were in a dance. "I just knew you couldn't resist! We're going to have so much fun!" She let go of him, and he twirled across the mat until he stopped at a corner. Not coincidentally, he was in the exact spot needed for him to play. Around him, ponies w
