OBJECTIVE: SELL THIS DAMN BOOK, DANNY.
At first, Gabriel was nothing more than a character named ONE. He had no backstory, no face, nothing. I just wanted to create a character that was a badass, yet with a sense of humor.
I was inspired by such characters as Boba Fett, Wolverine, Deadpool and Clint Eastwood from The Man With No Name trilogy. I needed to create something that fit that build, however, I'll admit, it wasn't intended at first.
I uploaded him on December 8th, 2008, (which, you can find here: http://danluvisiart.deviantart.com/art/GABRIEL-107612010?q=gallery%3Adanluvisiart%2F7848546&qo=50) and he became one of the most popular characters of the series, if not, the most. Soon I started finding him on forums, websites, fashion blogs (what?), and more.
But what hit me so hard was that the majority of the comments rela

THE NEXT THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE
I had received a job offer at Microsoft. I guess this could have been one of my first 'big time' jobs, so I was a little ecstatic. It felt like a slow build to get to this point, after numerous indie games and under the table freelance jobs, but finally it had come.
I was working with my now best friend and business partner, Stephan, a suave German who I had met only a year or so prior. He had brought me into the fray, working with several other individuals who will, well, simply be known as individuals for privacy sake.
But yes, finally, I could put a professional company I

But Is It Art?
Perhaps the eternally unanswerable question. But definitely something to chew on... When I first saw it, I was instantly captivated.
At first thought, what a brilliant example of modern pointillism! Has some unknown artist taken up the long abandoned banner of Georges Seurat and presented us with a new manifesto championing art as points of light illuminating our waking dreams?!

OK, I see now it’s not a painting at all, so my pointillism exuberance is dashed. It’s more likely one of those photo collages with thousands of small imag

News, blogs, and journals have been merged into one, unifying these systems in order to make them simpler to use and more consistent in appearance and functionality. In bringing them together, now categorized as deviations, they're able to receive the same great benefits as all deviations on the deviantART network. Including the following:
Using the Journal Portal, you'll be able to look through an endless stream of content. Much like deviations, you may now flick through journals quickly. View Newest to find what's hot right now in the deviantART community, or view Popular

October 2nd marks the birthday of Annie Leibovitz, the most important photographer of the “Sixties Generation.” We celebrate with a gallery of photographs that can quite rightly be said to be inspired her work.
Annie Liebovitz portrays the power of women in the artistic field. She is the perfect example for all the females out there who are being judged and have less opportunities just because of their gender. But not only she is a great role model but her body of work is such an inspiration either she is creating directed photography for Vogue or nude ablative and minimal captures for Pirelli Calendar (2000). She is creating magic that makes everyone fall in love all over again with the concept of photography and art in general

The Bang Bang ClubYou have to see this movie about war photographers called “The Bang Bang Club.” For photographers, it’s a near perfect experience. The Bang Bang Club3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The way photographers are shown in films follows the way in which any profession tends to be depicted in fiction - - usually as a caricature in a single dimension useful to the dramatic license taken out by the filmmaker.
The classic 1960 Federico Fellini movie “La Dolce Vita” introduced the paparazzi to the world stage and forever established a benchmark to the public’s perception of this type of news photographer as essentially a point and shoot automoton in the service of publicists. That view stuck no matter how brilliantly Weegee worked in this idiom with his sardonic exposures.
Here are Fellini’s paparazzi:

I have recently come across a most disturbing phenomenon in my studies of the Diabolic Infestation of the Soul. It seems there is a most frightening psychological conundrum when considering the concept of demonic possession even the most remote possibility of reality upon our earthly plane is the notion that just believing it may be true could very likely be the spark needed for the Demon to discover, seek out, and ultimately inhabit its next vessel of evil: You.

So... the community's response to DeviantArt's revamped website,
especially the new logo was, as expected, fairly polarizing.
While some members, myself included, liked/loved the new look, others weren't
particularly impressed by it and found the redesign... "unnecessary".
But who am I to judge?
All I know is that I'm a proud member of the largest online art community in the world!!

Image Adjustments and Cropping in deviantART muro
Last week, we launched a new set of tools for Muro to Beta Testers, and thanks to the efforts of the Beta Testers in reporting bugs, and mudimba's quick work fixing those bugs, we are launching these tools to everyone!
The new "Adjust" panel allows you to adjust a variety of color settings, including contrast, tint, and color temperature. These changes can be applied to an individual layer or the whole image, giving you an even broader means of creating dynamic works of art!

What is art? There's a lot of deviations on the front page that I check out just so I can read the comments. What is art?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of users seem to think they can define what is art and what isn't, and this never fails to infuriate me.
Have these people ever been to any art galleries? A lot of popular modern art looks like it's been drawn by 5 year olds in 5 minutes, while classical art all looks exactly the same. Maybe they should go visit some museums and start shouting "not art, herp derp" until they get thrown out.
If stuff you don't like makes the front page, it means there's an audience for that sort of stuff, in which case you should be blaming DeviantArt's user base rather than insulting the artists. Funnily enough, unoriginal Pokemon and Pony crap doesn't get as much hate as a lot of nude stuff. I wonder why. (*coughpersonalinsecuritiescough*)
Wikipedia's definition of art is: "Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and aff
Happy 13th birthday, and thank youToday marks deviantART's 13th birthday and a handful of us -- spyed, mccann, chris, and me -- have been on this amazing journey since pretty much day one. Thirteen years ago, most of us in that handful were just teenagers, unknowingly embarking on a time in our lives that would shape us, inspire us, and be truly thought-provoking in ways we could have never imagined. Today, I find myself so fortunate to play a role in the ongoing journey that has deviantART at the forefront of solving complex problems that affect the creative community.Happy 13th birthday, and thank you1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Throughout the years, I've met incredible people at deviantMEETs, town hall meetings, and visits to new countries -- all of which have fostered relationships and changed my life. I'm extremely grateful to have talked with every deviant who has crossed my path -- even in a note, comment, or journal. The deviantART community has flourished and prospered in the past 13 years, and we're thankful for that,

WE ALL LOVE PRINT!
I mean - we REALLY REALLY REALLY love print!
Nobody - NO-BO-DY! - wants to kill print. Not Madefire, not deviantART, not any other digital art, comic or literature provider. That isn't the point of digital at all! That conversation should be forced to stand in a corner with a dunce hat on, because it really is THAT dumb and isn't worth our time. Don't look at it. Don't talk to it. And definitely don't feel sorry for it! It's a trolling meme and doesn't have a worthy or generous thought in it's very small brainpan. It's an evil little turd with a mean spirit and no imagination.
And don't feed it either!
Let's rip open our skulls and publish directly into our brains shall we? Let's stream story-forms to our liminal cortex and mainline creativity! Let's unlearn everything we thought we knew about words, pictures, motion, sound, and the mediums we know so well, bec

The Fractal Universe:icontechgnotic:The Fractal Universe3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Is a photograph only a record, something created by a machine? Can photography ever truly be considered art? That question seems quaint and laughable these days, but if you do a little research you will find that once upon a time it was a raging debate. Thankfully a consensus has been reached that the agency of the photographer – his or her eye and critical mind – choosing the subject and manipulating the machine (the camera that is the art instrument) is what establishes photographs as potential works of art when created by an artist-photographer. Pretty basic common sense, huh? So why then is there now a debate as to whether FRACTAL ART is truly art – or just something produced by poking patterns into a computer? Isn't it just really random e-graffiti, a fibonacci button mash?
Here we go again… Hopefully it won’t take nearly a century again before fractal art is recog
