Below you'll find a list of tutorials I personally think of as the best on dA. If I have any problems with painting something I usually take a look at one of those.
Is there anything you're having troubles with? Need help looking for a good tutorial? Or maybe you'd like to see a video walk-through of me painting something?
I'm open for suggestions for what kind of tutorial/walk-through you'd like to see from me. If you're interested in anything, post your suggestions in the comments!

Protips1# How to price your art ?As we are on an artist platform, maybe it's time for me to share some of my experience as an artist with my fellows around here. Well, I'm sure there are a lot of articles of that kind on the internet, but I still receive the same questions over and over so maybe it could be a good idea to write regularly here about one of them... And if the concept pleases you, I will maybe write some more.Protips1# How to price your art ?8 months ago in Personal More Like This
The first subject is not the easiest, because money and art is still kind of taboo for lot of people, but I choosed it because I think it's one of the most essential point for beginners ( young artists as students or hobbyists who would like to sell some original works or comissions, or young freelancers ). Well, it will be a very general approach, so if you want to talk about a point more precisely, or if you need more examples, feel free to comment below. I'll be glad to answer!
At first, don't think "How much a client would like to pay for my art?"

After my first article about How to price your art, you asked me few tips to improve your drawing skills and productivity. So I made a selection of some of my favorite exercices and advice. I hope this will be helpful for you!
A Daily sketch routine:
We are all stressed by our busy life, and it's sometimes hard to find some time for sketching. You know, you don't need to sketch during all the day to improve your skills efficiently. The most important is to be constant in your effort. Take at least 20 min per day for sketching. This could be during your break, during your lunch , in the public transportation, or when you are at home... Find a moment for you, don't pressurize you, and just draw !
Don't copy without understanding what you are copying:
Before sketching in a Disney / Manga / Marvel/ or whate

Laying a wash
A wash is a large area in a watercolor painting where the paint flow and diffusion have been manipulated to efface individual brushstrokes. Within wash areas, color transitions are usually gradual and span analogous hues. Laying a wash is one of the most satisfying tasks in watercolor painting. Essentials of this s

Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Arvalis-2012 by arvalis
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a

Welcome to Vexel Art week with Project Educate! I am TheLastHuzzah, your host for the week. Today I am introducing you to Vexel Art, and digging nice and deep to aid the understanding of this fantastic media. I’m more than happy to answer any questions you may have, so if anything confuses you or you’d like clarification, please don’t hesitate to comment!
Vexel Art takes a great deal of time, patience and skill, contrary to public opinion. This misunderstanding has arisen because, sadly, it is often (incorrectly) said that vexel art is simply tracing a posterized photograph. While I do agree that this is a way that many people start off in the media, and a small number of people continue in it, vexelling is a form of drawing, in the same way as any other media. The vexel artist may sketch out an idea, and then work using the pen tool to digi

With the growth in popularity of the e-book many authors are seeing a glimmer of hope and realizing that they can get their work out there without having to break into the velvet roped publishing house exclusive party. This means that you will begin to get even more solicitations from those authors looking for artists to bring visuals to their words.
If you have a website or have done any degree of online advertising of your artwork, you have probably gotten an e-mail with a similar message as the title. If not, you will at some point. It's best to be prepared now. For those who have gotten it, nine times out of ten you aren’t sure how to respond to it, what should you ask, how do you respond?
I was tired of retyping essentially the same letter over and over again. I finally saved a template of the letter I use in this situation
FAQ! Finally!Hello everybody!FAQ! Finally!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been getting an increase in notes and messages lately asking all kinds of things. Problem is, I'm far from having the time to answer all these questions individually (even if I did have it it would probably make more sense to spend it drawing), but I don't want to leave them unanswered either since I appreciate everyone's feedback a lot. So I decided to make a kind of FAQ, since I'm mostly being asked the same things over and over.
I'll try to group these semantically so reading though them makes a bit of sense.
Did you ever do any tutorials?

Presenting: Community VolunteersA BRIEF OVERVIEWPresenting: Community Volunteers4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Over the years, we've been proud to offer the opportunity to volunteer with deviantART. We believe that our volunteers play a crucial role in helping our community develop and grow in positive ways.
The Gallery Moderator (previously known as Gallery Director) and Message Network Admin (MN@) teams have become a much loved and appreciated role, with many volunteers proudly detailing their experience in applications to enter into successful careers with companies who all recognise the value of volunteering in such a vibrant and eclectic community. Did you know that some of our now full time Staff were once volunteers? fourteenthstar, Moonbeam13, Pachunka, aunjuli, y2jenn, damphyr, Tachy-on, dxd and Ikue all volunteered in various roles -- and we are all very proud of that fact!
Over the past few months, we've been taking a close look at the volunteer experience -- what's worked, what hasn't worked a
Getting the Most out of dA: CommentingUsually, when you read something involving 'Commenting', you think of deviations and the commenting platform that allows other members of the community to voice their thoughts and opinions on the art shown. However, what is pretty evident, and something that most of us may forget, is that deviantART runs on the ability to give and get comments, be it on pieces of artwork, our profile pages, forums, and everywhere else in between.Getting the Most out of dA: Commenting3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
In a sense, without the ability to give and get comments, deviantART wouldn't be much of a website, much less #1 of online art communities around. Comments are not solely the cause of what makes deviantART what it is, but it has a huge impact on a lot of things. By giving and getting comments, not only do we interact with other members to really make this a community, we also have the ability to get our voices heard.
It's quite an odd concept with us all facing screens, typing out our thoughts and opinions, but one thing we shouldn't forget is that commen

Alright, alright, settle down. While this isn't crazy serious, it's still an update worth note!
Throughout history, art and artists have challenged preconceived notions, pushed boundaries and taken on subjects often considered taboo. Art is alive and constantly changing, much like the community at deviantART is. The CEA Team believes that deviantART policy must grow, adapt and change, to allow artists to push boundaries and express themselves whenever legally and morally possible. Policy must remain flexible in order for something, which was initially ruled as an absolute, to bend and change in order to allow for artists and quality to shine through.
One example of this kind of challenge to policy is with FindChaos's Lesbians 101 series-- a quirky and o
5 Art Selling TipsWhile I used to see "art sales" simply as bonus money coming in on the side, over the past few years it's become enough of an asset that it justifies an art dealer, record keeping, insurance, and taxes at the end of each year. It's currently 25% of my total income, and that has a lot of impact over my work. And just like storytelling, design and page flow--abstract principles that keep my career afloat daily--art sales also deserve to be studied, theorized, and understood.5 Art Selling Tips3 years ago in Personal More Like This
These are guidelines, not rules. And while most of them usually work for me, they might not all work for you, so keep in mind that my market might be different than yours. Because not only do we not draw the same, we probably have different sorts of buyers.
1. Don't stay on a book for too long
I find that doing mini series of 4-12 issues is optimal for selling art. If you spend a year doing one-shots or 2-3 issue minis, you'll be hard for buyers to keep track of because it's too infrequent. And it's hard to make an i
