Too many chances
Had come and gone by
Nature wept at last
Before slumber came
The fires died off
And new life was nursed
Far in the deep seas
Seeds of a new breath

On the body of a mother, failing
To provide sustenance for her dependent people now
We, her children, are wearing her down.
Our endless demands, more buildings, more cars,
Dont even quench our immense hunger for long.
Will we be happy once the plate is wiped clean?
Flattened under a concrete horizon?
What once was a sacred haven-
With plush forests and exotic finds,
Has now been torn down to make way for our needs.
One selfish race destroying the homes of your others.
Your rainbows go unnoticed-
Unseen beacons from the murky sky-
Covered with the pollution,
Of industry that takes over our lives.
Your systems are breaking down now,
No longer keeping up with our hi-tech ones.
Your oil production is too slow-
Your bounty running down the plughole.
As we look up and remember the past-
When tigers and polar bears still ran freely-
Not having to be locked in reserves to save the few who remain.
We think of joyful times.
