Manga/Anime Tutorial Hub: Paint Tool SaiSo what's this all about? A while back I decided that it would be best to create a place where tutorials that are vital to Manga/Anime artists to have a home, an easy place to reach if they felt that they ever needed it. One by one articles featuring tutorials based off of specific trades and mediums will be posted, and in the end a master article that'll unite them all together. The hope is to have as much as possible in one easy to reach place. This time around its Paint Tool Sai's turn.Manga/Anime Tutorial Hub: Paint Tool Sai4 years ago in Personal More Like This

PE: Pixel Art TutorialsSo you have discovered the wonderful world of pixel art and want to create your own But you don't know where to start or what techniques you might need to learn. This article will give you some tips and tutorials to help you on your way. Some links in this article do go off-site, as a warning.PE: Pixel Art Tutorials3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Do I need a special program?
No! Something as simple as Microsoft Paint, Paint Shop Pro or the Gimp, all of which are free, are all you need to start with pixel art. Well, that and a mouse/touchpad (and a computer ). Photoshop can be used to pixel as well, but it is costly, so unless you plan to use Photoshop for a multitude of digital media, it isn't the best investment for pixel art.
Free downloads of MS Paint and Paint Shop Pro can be found here: http://www.bunnystick.com/tdlc.html
What are some useful Pixel techniques?
When it comes to shading, both dithering and anti-aliasing (often called AA-ing) are your best

It is true that your artwork is the key to all the attention you receive. However, there are still some strategies that could help you get more attention, in terms of comments, self-achievement, favorites and watchers. In this journey I'll share with you some strategies that I've discovered through my own personal analysis and observation.
(they've all been tested, but no guarantee if it will work for everyone.)
And it will not directly make your art better, only you have that ability within yourself!

FAQ What does "yuumei" mean?FAQ7 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yuumei (幽冥 or 幽明) means light and darkness, strange and deep, hades, and semidarkness. Not to be confused with yuumei (有名) which means famous... (In my defense, I picked this name when I was 12 and didn't realize it also meant famous...)
What projects are you working on right now?
A complete list of all past, present, and future projects can be found here http://yuumei.deviantart.com/journal/Current-and-Future-Projects-286619795
Why didn't you reply to my comment/note?
I'm terribly sorry but due to the enormous amount of notes and comments I receive, it's simply impossible to read and reply to most of them. I tried to reply to all the notes but it eventually just got to be too much and took time away from drawing. If you have very important news to tell me (such as reports of art theft, requests to help none-profit organization, or business offers, etc) please e-mail me at email@example.com

How is your Chroma? As artists we all know that color is our friend, whether full spectrum, monochromatic, or simply black and white. But knowing just how to use this very special friend can be frustrating at times or just downright confusing (trust me, I've been there plenty before!) This blog is for those of us who work traditionally (not to worry my futuristic friends, I'll be writing a blog specifically for you as well!) Here are some terms you need to become acquainted with: chroma, value, tint, shade, and intensity/saturation.How is your Chroma?3 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Chroma is the Greek word for "color", it refers to the purity or intensity of a color.

What is a shade?

Thank you everyone for your help. I really appreciate it!
I found a super great help from M4dArtist, who gave me a super detailed instruction that answered all of my possible questions. Couldn't dream for more hahah.
I will go ahead trying out what she gave me there. Hopefully I'll have some vids to show you guys soon!
As many people have shown interest in seeing speedpainting/timelapse videos from me, I think I will try it out.
However I am not so sure which screen recording program I should use.
I want something that's easy to use, but on the other hand also have editing options, have no watermark and such.
I downloaded CamStudio installer, but it asked me to install many extra things that I obviously don't want to install. I just want to install the damn program. orz
So if you can give me a source to download safe installers, I'd highly ap

A Guide To Using The DeviantART Chat RoomsI asked my evil friend Evil-e33 to help me write a nifty guide to using the Chat Rooms on DeviantART. I did all the work and she poked me repeatedly in the left arm (which is now bruised) and came up with witty one liners that make me look foolish.A Guide To Using The DeviantART Chat Rooms7 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anyway, as for being helpful, we failed, but this is what happened anyway...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Where am I?!?!?!
BloodshotInk says: Hello there, welcome to dAmn. dAmn stands for deviantART Messaging Network and includes the forums and the chat rooms.
This guide is for the chat rooms, using them, and becoming accustom to them.
Evil-e33 says: The first rule about dAmn club is we don't talk about dAmn club.
BloodshotInk says: Luckily dAmn is not a club. So lets move on.
dAmn is moderated by MN@ staff. You can tell who these scary people are by looking for the @ symbol by their usernames. (Usernames are listed on the right). All Official chatrooms are moderated by the MN@ Team. Generally speaking,

SSP/Ghost FLELE desktop mp3 player setup
First you need to install this thing called SSP http://ssp.shillest.net/ since basically a ghost can't run without a base ghost program. (SSP is like.. a desktop mascot for otakus.. it's mostly some kind of anime girl or whatnot that'll reside on your desktop and will talk mostly random otaku stuff if you let her be, (other than that she'll mostly do stuff like check email for you bla bla bla things like that). You might probably won't understand wth she's talking most of the time anyways if you can't understand Japanese. But we're not gonna use her anyways (lol that sound so mean).
So yeah. Pick that FULLSET. Or just download chinese version if you can understand chinese (i dunno how to do on chinese, i downloaded Japanese so uhh...)
Then run the installation file after that. It'll extract the files to your

Star's compendium of Sai Tips and Tricks [updated]EDIT: Feel free to post these to your art-blog or art tumblr!Star's compendium of Sai Tips and Tricks [updated]10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I will update this with more tricks as we go on! I've been using SAI for several years and continue to find new shortcuts. Also it bugs me when artists don't use shortcuts, so the time they spend searching for the right button is time wasted and not improving B(
Hold CTRL and click to jump to layer:
- Hold CTRL and drag to move whatever's on that layer!
- Hold CTRL and click and you will automatically jump to that layer! (Some versions of SAI uses ctrl+ shift, try it out!)
- Hold CTRL over a colored area and a little tag will appear next to your cursor that shows the name of that layer!
Go to View> New for a little viewfinder
- If you want to see what your artwork looks like, at 100% or whatever zoom you like (other than from the little navigator which is very tiny), you can set your canvas to windows
You want to make a Flash Dress Up Game? But you're not entirely familiar with Flash? WELL FEAR NOT! Deviantart supplies A VAST AMOUNT OF TUTORIALS from people who know and have some fair amount of understanding of what to do.You want to make a Flash Dress Up Game?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I'll help you get started by supplying some information and also recommending a couple very nice and informative tutorials about Flash. Plus don't be discouraged if you suck at drawing in Flash, I provided a fair amount of information for an alternative solution at the end!
What you need:
- Flash* (any kind of Flash where you can write Action Script 2.0... NOT Action Script 3.0, these tutorials cover AS 2.0. Flash is not a free program (legally). You can obtain Flash at Adobe.com.)
*If you're wondering what kind of Flash I use, I'll tell you. I use a super old school Flash that does the job juuust fine. It's called Macromedia Flash MX, also known as "Flash 6.0 r25" Yuuuup, really old. I've had it since junior year in high school (approx. 5 years). I have Flash Pro

Traditional Art Week continues! This article will give you a brief overview of most commonly used physical media techniques and their characteristics, featuring beautiful examples found all over DeviantArt and tutorials. I sincerely hope this will get you inspired to try something new and experiment, why not pick a tutorial and see what you learn! Don't forget, whilst techniques has their own regulations and principles, they still can be combined, you have to be no wizard (just a little creative) to find a new way to express yourself through them. Let's take a look
1. Drawing media
Drawing is one of the major forms of expression within the visual arts, and is generally concerned with the marking of lines and areas of tone onto paper. Traditional drawings were monochrome, or at least had little color, while modern colored-pencil drawings may a
Sai users, did you know this?I just found this out completely on accident. If you open Paint Tool Sai, and press the "Tab" key on your key board, it makes the tool bars disappear from the screen. Hit "Tab" again, and they come back. That can be really useful, because you can have a much larger drawing area, and if you need a tool or something, just click "Tab" to open the tools, get what you need, and close it again.Sai users, did you know this?3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Tuesday Tip: A guide to Pricing ArtHi~! Its Goth-Kath here. Inspired by a question send to us at Rising-Artists for our advice column I wrote this , hopefully, helpful guide to Pricing Your Art.Tuesday Tip: A guide to Pricing Art2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I want to apologize up front for any and all spelling/ grammatical mistakes. English is not my first language and I normally get it checked but there wasn't any time now. Sorry.
(Don't worry Kath, ya Warchief's got ya back~)
So with that said. Lets jump into it~! Whether you have been doing commissions for years, work as a professional artist or are just starting out, it might be good to give this journal a read.
We all know that pricing art is tricky and often difficult because we do not only price work rationally, but also emotionally. Many artists cope with self-esteem issues when it comes to their art, and start selling it for way less than its worth. This is actually a bad thing, when many artists undersell their work, it will hurt the general art economy. Artists who dare ask for more will be confronted w
