Manga/Anime Tutorial Hub: Paint Tool SaiSo what's this all about? A while back I decided that it would be best to create a place where tutorials that are vital to Manga/Anime artists to have a home, an easy place to reach if they felt that they ever needed it. One by one articles featuring tutorials based off of specific trades and mediums will be posted, and in the end a master article that'll unite them all together. The hope is to have as much as possible in one easy to reach place. This time around its Paint Tool Sai's turn.Manga/Anime Tutorial Hub: Paint Tool Sai3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Digital painting tips for beginners.I'm not the best person to give advice about art, once I do not consider myself an artist (yes, it's true lol). But I've always been very curious and interested with the theme "digital painting", and I spent (and still spend) hours and hours watching videos 2 hours long on Youtube lol livestreams, etc.. I think I'm the only person who has the patience for it, hahahaha, but it was what helped me to evolve and learn all the techniques I know now to perform my work. I asked the help of many artists that I admire, and some even helped me, but most of them do not care how much you want to learn. Thinking about it, I decided to make this journal to pass them what little I know, and I hope that this is helpful for someone. Are simple tips and a little obvious, but unknown for some people who just started in this world full of possibilities. I only ask, first of all, for you dont give up. The difficulties were made to be overcome.Digital painting tips for beginners.1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

Working in SAI
- Alt+spacebar+dragging the cursor will rotate your canvas.
- Hold the spacebar and drag your cursor to move around the canvas
- Hold Ctrl+Alt, and you can change your brush size without having to go back to the brush panel
- If you go to View > New (It's on the top menu) and you can have another instance of your file open (Example)
- If you click a layer thumbnail and hold Shift, and it will select everything on that layer.
- Layer clipping! Color in all your bases, and then keep all the messy shading on a separate layer and click the "clipping group" option, and it will all neatly erase it self outside the lines
- Press H to flip your image. This makes it easier to weed out mistakes.
- It makes your life a lot easier if you organize your layers into folders!!!
For actual painting tips
- Try to keep shading subtle! Don't go

Long Exposure TutorialThis tutorial is for everyone who loves the magic of night photography, surreal effects, use of lights, and long exposures even at daylight! Or just for everyone who wants to try this section of photography. I used some of my own pictures as examples for the topics I am talking about. Every picture has the EXIF/camera data, so you can see how I took this photo!Long Exposure Tutorial3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Photography at night
The easiest way and also the cheapest to get long exposures is to take photos at night. The whole photography is a triangle: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_fxbalKKB9mw/ScJbsMEPLLI/AAAAAAAAAlo/fV7m4syiOvw/s320/Exposure+Triangle.gif To get the right exposure, shutter speed, aperture and ISO are the main parts. If you have less light, open the aperture and ISO and shutter speed are constant. If you use a higher ISO you can keep your shutter speed and your aperture, and if you use a slower shutter speed (longer exposures) you can keep the ISO and the aperture! And this is what we need for night photography!

how to improve at drawing: a guideSo as I sit and read my comments, I found that alot of people want to know how to improve.how to improve at drawing: a guide1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm betting you are tired of hearing people say "practice"?
Well for me, improving is not instant. I may not even notice it, but every time I draw im improving a little.
How to Improve:
Draw all the time, draw everything you see, draw what you want to draw, draw in other peoples styles, draw realistic, draw cartoon, anything. JUST DRAW. Do it all the time. Draw in your notebooks and on your homework.
Do you hate the way you draw eyes? Maybe your paws/hands need more practice? Then find references and use them. I personally don't always find the time to use references, but I find when I do, my art is 10x better. Just practice drawing those eyes you've never gotten quite right. Look at other art and see what you really like about their style. And then try it out.
Now that you've practiced a bit more, draw somethin

A lot of people want to learn to draw and paint better but they just don't know where to start. You don't need an expensive art course to learn and progress, sometimes the answers are not far away. On DeviantArt, artists not only share their artworks but many of them are willing to share their working secrets, they create tutorials and FAQ journals or simply answer to your notes if you ask them. When you know what you want to improve, searching for a good tip gets even easier.

Do's and Dont's of Digital PaintingDo's and Don'ts of Digital PaintingDo's and Dont's of Digital Painting1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
The possibilities of digital painting and digital art in general are almost infinite. There is basically nothing you cannot do as long as you just know how to approach it. Yet an abundance of programs and tools has both advantages and disadvantages. Knowing what to favour and what to avoid can be both a huge time saver and help you sidestep frustration.
What we will focus on in this article are some basic tools and techniques of digital painting; we'll try to root out pitfalls and see how to avoid them. Mind that all of the points mentioned below aren't rules carved in stone; there are always cases where breaking the rules can be much more fruitful for a certain effect than following them too strictly. With time and practice you will gain good judgment over when to follow the guidelines and when to leave them aside.
Note: Names of certain tools might vary depending on t

You want to make a Flash Dress Up Game? But you're not entirely familiar with Flash? WELL FEAR NOT! Deviantart supplies A VAST AMOUNT OF TUTORIALS from people who know and have some fair amount of understanding of what to do.You want to make a Flash Dress Up Game?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I'll help you get started by supplying some information and also recommending a couple very nice and informative tutorials about Flash. Plus don't be discouraged if you suck at drawing in Flash, I provided a fair amount of information for an alternative solution at the end!
What you need:
- Flash* (any kind of Flash where you can write Action Script 2.0... NOT Action Script 3.0, these tutorials cover AS 2.0)
*If you're wondering what kind of Flash I use, I'll tell you. I use a super old school Flash that does the job juuust fine. It's called Macromedia Flash MX, also known as "Flash 6.0 r25" Yuuuup, really old. I've had it since junior year in high school (approx. 5 years). I have Flash Professional CS5, and it looks pretty much the same as Flash 6, so don't worry.

Ok so I just feel like I really need to point this out since a ton of people have no clue that you can do this in SAI. xD and it's really important when it comes to lineart.
Ever heard of the stabilizer/smoothing option? For those who haven't, it's an option in SAI where you can set it to a certain number (the scale is from 0 through S-7, 0 being the fastest and most unstable cursor speed). Here's a picture of it for people who can't find where it is in the program: http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg23/scaled.php?server=23&filename=fullscreencapture442009.jpg&res=medium
The farther down the scale you go, the slower the cursor will move, making your lines MUCH smoother. I usually have mine set to S-5 during lineart, and at about 10 - 15 when doing sketching.
Anyway, just pointing that out. :3 Hope it helps some people.

It is true that your artwork is the key to all the attention you receive. However, there are still some strategies that could help you get more attention, in terms of comments, self-achievement, favorites and watchers. In this journey I'll share with you some strategies that I've discovered through my own personal analysis and observation.
(they've all been tested, but no guarantee if it will work for everyone.)
And it will not directly make your art better, only you have that ability within yourself!
