Manga/Anime Tutorial Hub: Paint Tool SaiSo what's this all about? A while back I decided that it would be best to create a place where tutorials that are vital to Manga/Anime artists to have a home, an easy place to reach if they felt that they ever needed it. One by one articles featuring tutorials based off of specific trades and mediums will be posted, and in the end a master article that'll unite them all together. The hope is to have as much as possible in one easy to reach place. This time around its Paint Tool Sai's turn.Manga/Anime Tutorial Hub: Paint Tool Sai3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Mae says - How to make a 'dark' story (Nuzlocke)In the internet, 'dark' stories are really easy to come by. There are the infamous creepypastas which are urban stories that are passed around, dark webcomics and fanfiction that are referred as 'Grimdark', and creepy games like Slenderman. Today I want to discuss in my opinion, what makes a good dark story. I was inspired to do this because I've seen an over saturation of 'dark' Nuzlocke comics in the community and I earnestly believe that a lot of them are...doing it wrong. I'm not going to mention any names, I just want to give my two cents in how to write dark subject material since it's something I've been working on for years. Many people say that my stories are dark, and as hard as I try I can't escape this part of myself. I'm not a perfect storyteller, and I myself am working in becoming the best I can be. However I do know very helpful tips that I would like to share in making a 'dark' story, and how to stand out from the 100 thousand other dark comics out there. I will use exMae says - How to make a 'dark' story (Nuzlocke)1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Do I need a special program?
No! Something as simple as Microsoft Paint, Paint Shop Pro or the Gimp, all of which are free, are all you need to start with pixel art. Well, that and a mouse/touchpad (and a computer ). Photoshop can be used to pixel as well, but it is costly, so unless you plan to use Photoshop for a multitude of digital media, it isn't the best investment for pixel art.
Free downloads of MS Paint and Paint Shop Pro can be found here: http://www.bunnystick.com/tdlc.html
What are some useful Pixel techniques?

"Just be yourself. Draw what you want, write and photograph what you feel like! No one shall force you. c: Just because a piece of artwork isn´t perfect, doesn´t mean it´s bad. Don´t be sad because you know someone viewed your art but didn´t favorite it. Not everyone likes to favorite everything they see on dA. Trust me. There´s lots of art I enjoy viewing but which I don´t favorite! Just because someone gave you 2 out of 5 stars on a critique doesn´t mean that your art hasn´t got great values, nor does it mean that no one can appreciate your art when looking so strictly at it!"That was a short take from the journal above. I seriously recommend everyone to read it. It was a good read. ^__^

Pageviews and Popularity - The real deal.Be an artist, not a number.Pageviews and Popularity - The real deal.6 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Many members of the artistic community here on DeviantART were shocked by a recent popular news article about how to become popular. I won't link to it because that would be foolish - but the mentality behind it was pageview orientated and made a 'mockery of all that deviantART stands for'.
So - to spell it out for everyone on DeviantART whos ever wanted more pageviews, I went to my nearest and dearest ' popular' artists and asked them what they thought about popularity and statistics.
The answer? They don't give a damn...
Your page views won't help you progress as an artist, and that is what you should be on this art site for.. the art..
Page views can be a feel good thing - I won't deny that - but it does not reflect how much your actual art is viewed, how sucessful or popular your art itself is, or even how popular you are.
Using cheap tactics as described in the article it is easy to generate high numbers of page views even with an EMPTY gallery.
SAI pressure sensitivity SOLUTION!!!Now, there has been a lot of problems over this I'm gonna tell you what to do with some handy screenshots.SAI pressure sensitivity SOLUTION!!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It gets really annoying when you loose pressure sensitivity and you're in the middle of drawing and that is because sometimes SAI can lose you're settings, after you have been told to remove all preferences and that, you, like me, may get no response from your pen but only when you press hard on it. I have found a great solution.
This might not work for all users, because of the type of laptop and the type of tablet because it has no sensitivity installed on it at all., but I hope that this will work for you.
Note: Before we go on I forgot to say that you need a tablet, Wacom preferably and you also have to have purchased SAI.
So, thats what it looks like. yours might be different though, but the next steps will help. Go to Others - Options - DigitalSupport
How is your Chroma? As artists we all know that color is our friend, whether full spectrum, monochromatic, or simply black and white. But knowing just how to use this very special friend can be frustrating at times or just downright confusing (trust me, I've been there plenty before!) This blog is for those of us who work traditionally (not to worry my futuristic friends, I'll be writing a blog specifically for you as well!) Here are some terms you need to become acquainted with: chroma, value, tint, shade, and intensity/saturation.How is your Chroma?2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
What is Chroma?
Chroma is the Greek word for "color", it refers to the purity or intensity of a color.

FAQ What does "yuumei" mean?FAQ6 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yuumei (幽冥 or 幽明) means light and darkness, strange and deep, hades, and semidarkness. Not to be confused with yuumei (有名) which means famous... (In my defense, I picked this name when I was 12 and didn't realize it also meant famous...)
What projects are you working on right now?
A complete list of all past, present, and future projects can be found here http://yuumei.deviantart.com/journal/Current-and-Future-Projects-286619795
Why didn't you reply to my comment/note?
I'm terribly sorry but due to the enormous amount of notes and comments I receive, it's simply impossible to read and reply to most of them. I tried to reply to all the notes but it eventually just got to be too much and took time away from drawing. A Guide To Using The DeviantART Chat RoomsI asked my evil friend Evil-e33 to help me write a nifty guide to using the Chat Rooms on DeviantART. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Where am I?!?!?!
BloodshotInk says: Hello there, welcome to dAmn. dAmn stands for deviantART Messaging Network and includes the forums and the chat rooms.
This guide is for the chat rooms, using them, and becoming accustom to them.

BloodshotInk says: Luckily dAmn is not a club. So lets move on.
dAmn is moderated by MN@ staff. You can tell who these scary people are by looking for the @ symbol by their usernames. (Usernames are listed on the right). All Official chatrooms are moderated by the MN@ Team. Generally speaking,

SSP/Ghost FLELE desktop mp3 player setup
First you need to install this thing called SSP http://ssp.shillest.net/ since basically a ghost can't run without a base ghost program. (SSP is like.. a desktop mascot for otakus.. it's mostly some kind of anime girl or whatnot that'll reside on your desktop and will talk mostly random otaku stuff if you let her be, (other than that she'll mostly do stuff like check email for you bla bla bla things like that). You might probably won't understand wth she's talking most of the time anyways if you can't understand Japanese. But we're not gonna use her anyways (lol that sound so mean).
So yeah. Pick that FULLSET. Or just download chinese version if you can understand chinese (i dunno how to do on chinese, i downloaded Japanese so uhh...)
Then run the installation file after that. It'll extract the files to your

Starting off, we have my all time favorites!
Simplifying the figure: This is my very favorite anatomy deviation and I still come back to it when I need to amp myself up for drawing some anatomies. It’s just so simplified yet still accurate! It makes breaking down the body into simple shapes easier to understand. When I start working out a person’s anatomy, this is what they’ll look like, because details get in the way at that point and structure and form are what’s important to get down.
Muscles: One of the best resources on the internet for anatomy is
How To Improve Your ArtI was going to call this 'how to become a better artist', but then I realized, there is no such thing as a 'better artist'. If you are an artist, you are the best artist you can be - your art can always ALWAYS improve, but you are already and always will be the best artist you can be. Remembering those two facts is the most important thing you can do.How To Improve Your Art4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
But other than that, find someone to be excited about art with! They don't have to be an artist themselves, they just have to be able to get excited about art. Having someone who'll always be around to listen to your ideas, even if they don't contribute anything, is HUGELY helpful to keep you motivated. I've found that having someone for me to bounce ideas off of, or even just someone to explain my stories to, is my favourite thing in the world and almost always leads to me discovering new things about my stories and characters.
And now for the list of links you all were waiting for!
World Building Tips(somewhat Nuzlocke Specific)World Building Tips5 months ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of people have asked me about how I world-build and I get a lot of comments about it so I guess... I do pretty well???
So I'm going to attempt to explain my thought-process and process for world-building:
World-building basically comes down to doing your homework.
No seriously- make and fill in a worksheet for yourself (I’ll be posting mine for you guys to use if you want to).
Think it through- all aspects of it. And when you answer your questions, consider the theme of your nuzlocke. Your world and plot should follow the same theme and I think that's how you make it interesting?? Like, don't try to be edgy and interesting- just connect the dots in realistic ways.
In the case of The Fall, it has a pretty distinct dark undertone- so all of my answers had to reflect that, on the surface, things might look okay, but this is canonically a world where there’s one visible police officer/government official who is completely useless and it’
