How I started in art, how I studied and surviveInterview by KhidirIshitar:How I started in art, how I studied and survive2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I want to say firstly thank you for making such a group :iconartistshospital: in the first place, while I haven't made much progress I know that I have a solid resource to build a strong foundation on for practicing art.
I had a few questions for you about art and drawing in general(that I can't remember of course) if you didn't mind.
A: It's an honor to have those questions asked to me, now I finally get the time to sit down and answer them. Hope that my life experience can help to keep some inspired and keep going.
how you started off with an interest in art, animation, and the like?
A: Oh, I am one of those... uh, born drawing girl. Everyone has a different start, I was entranced by newspaper comics ever since I was a baby. I could sit there and STARE at the pictures for hours, my mom still talks about how she wondered what I was staring at. When I co

Be An Active Watchee We all want active watchers; people that comment on our deviations and add them to their favorites. That get involved in whatever projects we have going on, polls we post or anything else. Active watchers are awesome and we're lucky to have them. But are you an active watchee?Be An Active Watchee1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Some people return watches, some people don't. However you do it, a big key to have active watchers for most of us is to be active in return! But what is an active watchee?
Being an active watchee isn't really that hard, it's just boils down to being involved with your watchers and being part of their deviantART experience too. They watched you for whatever reasons they did. Let it be your artwork, your community involvement, your bribery... whatever it is, they watched you for a reason, reasons we shall appreciate because we are respectable people after all! So without further babbling or .gifs,
5 Steps to Being an Active Watchee

The Pied Piper
In the tale of the Pied Piper, we have a village overrun with rats. A man arrives dressed in clothes of pied (a patchwork of colors) and offers to rid the town of the vermin. The villagers agree to pay a vast sum of money if the piper can do it – and he does. He plays music on his pipe which draws all the rats out of the town. When he returns for payment – the villagers won't cough up so the Pied Piper decides to rid the town of children too! In most modern variants, the piper draws the children to a cave out of the town and when the townsfolk finally agree to pay up, he sends them back. In the darker original, the piper leads the children to a river
A Special Moment.I wanted to share this with you guys because it is by far the most beautiful moment of my life.A Special Moment.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It happens to be the day I flew back. The flight back to England was very long, only because I knew what was waiting on the other side and I couldn't wait to see him again.
When I got off the plane, I don't think I have run faster in my life. I stood in front of the area where the bags were coming out and acted like some kind of idiot really because I was literally pacing around it trying to get my bags out as fast as possible. I borrowed a stranger's phone to call Kurt at that moment because I knew when I crossed those doors, he would be waiting for me on the other side. And when I walked out with my trolley of stuff, there he was. Right in the middle wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, his arms open wide to grab me, I could see him before I even walked out of the doors at Heathrow. I left my trolley at that point because honestly, I didn't give a damn where it went and in seconds

So my book is out finally!! YAYAYAYAY!!
David (Other5317) wrote the most epic foreword for it as well!
From the back of the book:
Nikita Gill offers thirty three stories in the form of almost poems, almost fairy tales, and some very real people behind them. Love, hate, passion...forget all you have ever known or learned. For this is not about the art of living. This is about the techniques of survival. (I hope you're proud, Mr. Darwin.)

My Ebook is Going to Come Out Soon!I cannot believe I actually managed to write enough stories to fill up a book, but there you go! I am planning to launch my prosetry ebook over the next week or so! I am so excited about this because this would be the first step to being an author! I have been published in literary journals a couple of times, but this is a whole new ball game, which is nice because I call the shots thanks to the magic of self publishing! My Ebook is Going to Come Out Soon!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The book itself is called Your Body is an Ocean and has a whole bunch of flashfiction type stories!
I'd love for you guys to see it because it is all your support that has even persuaded me to write the thing in the first place! This beautiful poem was not written by me, but by the one who holds my heart. Beautiful, marvellous, wonderful Knight in shining armour, who came knocking at my door one fine morning (literally!) when I least expected it (needless to say, I looked terrible the first time he met me and he STILL liked me. If that isn't love, I don't know what is!)

Giving and Receiving Feedback
One of the most useful things on deviantart is the option to give and receive feedback. There are different kinds of feedback. This article aims to inform you on how to give quality feedback and hopefully receive it.
Types of Feedback
One of the quickest ways to interact with others. From journals, to forums, to art, to profiles, comments are used everywhere. However, the quality can range from spam, to constructive.
Any deviant can write them,(~,*,=,`,^ etc.) but only premium members can request them. Constructive comments can substitute for these. Critiques take some time to write, and really provide insight. If used correctly, can be a wonderful way to give/receive constructive criticism.
This is important to receiving feedback. If you give, you are l
Communities rely on Pillars made of HeartCommunities of all kinds are held up by pillars made of heart. Typically embodied by people who let the weight of their community rest on their shoulders, willing to let life be life. Sometimes it hurts, and sometimes it's comfortable. Regardless, the result is a halo that surrounds all participants in a community. The healing light of being mothered, fathered or cared for.Communities rely on Pillars made of Heart2 years ago in Personal More Like This
These are very special people who take this role in your community. Maybe this person is you. In which case, please be you today, and every day. Because you are very important.
For the rest of us, we all know who the pillars are that hold up the communities that we care about. We all know the value of what they do, especially when we stop to think about it.
There is nothing in life that I have ever found a deeper admiration for than people who take on this role. Pillars of Community. When a human being digs their heels in, claims territory and begins to show Love towards a group of people, they begin to embody

MLP Resource: Tips + Tricks for Working with MinkyMy Little Pony Plushie StyleMLP Resource: Tips + Tricks for Working with Minky3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
What: Minky is a polyester, microfiber fabric that is extremely soft. It is often used in baby blankets and quilts, but also seems to be the fabric of choice for many plushie makers.
(Please keep an eye out for more helpful journals centered around plushie making! More will be made in the future!)
These tools can help make your experience working with minky much easier...
Rotary Cutter: http://www.beverlys.com/olfa-rotary-cutter-28mm.html You can use this to cut the minky directly around your pattern pieces on a flat surface, instead of trying to pin the pattern and hold up the fabric while cutting with scissors. The smaller the blade size, the better, because they go around tight curves easier.
Walking Foot: These sewing machine accessories are very useful. When sewing, because minky is slippery, the fabric may slide around a bit and get off track, making your plushie (or whatever you're making) not as accu
Animation ApologiesIn my last journal about animation techniques a number of well meaning but vocal people took issue with what I had to say about the marriage of 2-d and 3-d animation. My original point was that 3-D elements made to look 2-D is a shorthand for drawing them by hand and that I personally missed the skill involved of having a 2-D animator actually drawing those objects frame by frame. I felt that more personality and life in the animation was a result actual artist drawing the elements and cited the "masking effect" (explained in Scott McCloud's book "Understanding Comics") as my reason for liking it.Animation Apologies4 years ago in Personal More Like This
But instead my point was mischaracterized as if I was saying I hated ALL 3-D animation period (which of course is not true) or that I don't want to advance 2-D animation with new technology (which also is not true). Disliking how a door would now be animated in 3-D instead of being drawn by hand somehow equated to me trying to blanket label all 3-D character animation as "cheap."
There was al
The right Manga Anatomy-Does this exist?People often say: "Your anatomy isn't right."The right Manga Anatomy-Does this exist?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I admit, anatomy IS difficult. But there are so many styles like more chibi or more realistic and so the proportions of the body changes.
I would answer this question with a yes and a no.
Yes, because if the character you draw has 4 fingers, it's wrong. Or the figure can sprain their body unnaturally so that just looking hurts. Then it's really wrong.
You have to understand the basics of anatomy.
But isn't it a matter of the artist's style how realistic the proportions have to be?
I think CLAMP's characters in "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle" have way too long bodies and limbs or the characters in "Pokemon", they are all without muscles and without body fat.
And not to mention the female chest... From not visible to fat balls.
As you can see there is artistic freedom till a certain limit.
It's up to the artist's taste.
The difference between a mistake and style is: knowing how it actually has to look like.

A couple of years ago I met a boy called S. He was kind, quiet and made me coffee every morning at an office we both despised for what it represented. I fell head over heels for his quiet charm, his music, his soothing voice: who he was. Except I didn't really know who he really was. Slowly, over the course of the relationship, he began to point out things he didn't like about me. He didn't like the way I overused certain phrases, the way I spoke, the way I sang, and he didn't want to listen to me talk about my past because it burdened him, and he didn't like that...basically all the little things that made me, ME would have to change. This is where I made the most critical mistake.
I changed for him.
I changed who I was to please S. And do you know what? The more I changed to suit his needs, the more demands he put on

Art is...... what makes me fly without wings.Art is...4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been listening to my old Westlife CDs and "Flying Without Wings" came on and it was like I've been transferred to another place where all made sense.
When I said to GenshiVenom once that Art is my White, or when I tell my family and friends that no man/husband/lover/person would be able to make me feel what art/creating makes me feel; I meant exactly what that song is talking about...
Flying without wings.
No person and no thing makes me feel that.
Sitting on a chair holding a small stick-shaped thing in hand moving it here and there, then there again... for 5 minutes, 3 hours, 7 or even 12 hours... I'm flying without wings.
My family members always ask; "Are you always hungry/thirsty/tired whenever you see me?" and I just recently realized why is that.
Because I honestly don't feel a thing when I'm on my art desk.
And once you take me off that trip through the invis
Working with MinkyMinky is a very popular fabric choice for making plush ponies, and MLPPlushies has an article on working with it: http://mlpplushies.deviantart.com/journal/Tips-and-Tricks-Working-with-Minky-319075769Working with Minky3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Personally I prefer tacking to pinning, since minky is so thin the pins distort and pull the fabric. You can also use clamps or paper clips (although paper clips also tend to fall off). I also always back minky with iron-on interfacing, to make transferring the pattern easier, and to keep it from slithering, wrinkling and stretching quite so much.
Any other tricks you'd like to share?
