One Man's TrashGot it cheap at a thrift store,
left by some anonymous patron:
maybe an old woman,
cleaning out a closet,
significance lost to time and a
fine coat of dust?
Or did she suffer the loss when
she passed it, still on a hanger,
to the man at the counter?
Did she falter when he offered
only a smile and a "we'll be happy
to take it off your hands" as condolence,
like he'd be doing a great service,
bargaining off her past.
Then "keep only what you use"
the mantra of some clutter-busting
self-help book drowns out
the fifty-year-old strains of "Sleepwalk"
from a high school prom
and her hand slips from the fabric,
saying "You ca

show myself and wear them out
on dates, display what's left for
men who'd pay for my half-size
salad, hold doors for me and tell me
how stunning I look, but take no interest
in anything I have to say.
So I can be what I've always hated
and everyone else always wanted:
bleached blonde and bronze
So I can feel the slow
rise of collarbone, ribcage through skin
and know that I'm finally fitting
in as I feel the deflation of
personality: turn on the bubbly,
learn to flirt, be objectified,

though I've knocked on a hundred doors,
looking for a taste of porridge that was just right.
I will never spend a night, sleeping tight in a bed
that feels as if it was made up just for me.
I was neither the Big Bad Wolf nor Red Riding Hood,
I was only a villager who stood beside a straw hut
or a peasant out collecting wood while
stories unfurled all around me.
No wicked witch has ever found me,
nor handsome prince's lips implored
a kiss from mine- I do not mind-
I'm nestled here between the lines.
My lot in life is not to find
a happy ending, but to remind
in every "Once upon a time"
the prince must leave someone

The meniscal kiss
Curving into the bowl:
promise of lips stained
with a blush that is
anything but bashful.

Will he have the lasting power of

a dry or sweet finish?
Will the evening bubble
Or conversation wane,
fermenting past its prime
into a vinegar of stained carpet
or the clang of a broken glass
on a hardwood floor?

everday i grow a little more stronger than what meets the eye
i think i'm getting over you now, and that's not a lie
although the very thought of you and i still makes me break down and cry
i dont want to hear your name anymore, it causes too much pain
and i'm too weak for another night of this torment again
i hope you're living well since you set yourself free from me
i wish you nothing but the best while i live in misery
you can blame the tragic end of our little love story on me
i'm too tired to fight now, so i'm letting you go
i hope one day you will know how much that i once cared

A policeman came
to the hospital
To take a statement.
"Could you describe the perpetrator?"
I told him about the flame,
its hot red touch:
He made a sketch in charcoal.
The irony wasn't missed.
When the drawing was finished
it reminded me of you.
I have seen the fire since,
Burning blue and bright in your eyes
The last time they met mine,
but I can't turn you in.
My candle's been burning at both ends
For a long time. Is it any wonder I have come to the end of my
Wick? That flickering tongue of fire was the warmest
I've felt in years.
Blisters and scars will heal and return with

soulward, stoic, then sordid whispers,
distorted by shifting, lunging, lifting,
leaning forward, moving back,
supressing, depressing, undressing
expressing obsession, a predilection,
to erect a monument to a
lifetime of pent up good intent,
then spent and going slack, exhaling,
words failing, chest heaving, drinking the sound
of labored breathing, sweat dripping,
then slipping back into
the curtain of the dark of evening.

this out another time,
we might have found
great love in this
latitude of lines
but it's locked in our chests
so well that no quest
will reveal it.
the distance between us
cannot be measured in miles-
our legends cannot lead us-
no ecstasy to mark the
spot where we will find
each other's arms:
ours is a treasure that
cannot be mapped,
if there is buried pleasure,
it refuses to be found.

two companions gone
a foray in the battle of three
marching to the sound of four swords
swaying in the wind of fifth degrees
sixth sense attracted to blood around
the clock ticks down
as i move forth
the clock rewinds
as i get shoved back
rewind the numbers as i fall behind
six feet tall i feel
being knocked between five pillars
four times now it feels
the beating of three kings against my will
will not these second term aches relieve
in the end i shall be one
let the mighty come
let them come

Always the last one to understand
Am I strong enough to take your hand?
People leave and don't return
Am I strong enough to not get burned?
Would you ever walk away?
Are you strong enough to stay?
Laughter comes when you don't try
Are you strong enough to cry?

Shattered girl, broken glass
pulled upon by the growing mass
weary eyed and sinking low
she wished this fast paced world to slow
by herself, she walks alone
becoming colder, made of stone
She lays down on her comfy bed
as thoughts of love, leave her head
All the truths, and all the lies
have all darkened, her once blue skies
So in the darkness of her room
she sits and ponders her current doom
For she has loved and lost
and should her soul be the cost?
you should have seen her, those last few days
when all her colors turned to greys
When all her life, darkened in
because of your every sin
Because you broke her fragile heart

You lose her when you forget to remember the little things that mean the world to her: the sincerity in a stranger's voice during a trip to the grocery, the delight of finding something lost or forgotten like a sticker from when she was five, the selflessness of a child giving a part of his meal to another, the scent of new books in the store, the surprise short but honest notes she tucks in her journal and others you could only see if you look closely.
You must remember when she forgets.
You lose her when you don't notice that she notices everything about you: your use of the proper punctuation that tells her continuation rather than finality, your silence when you're about to ask a question but you think anything you're about to say to her would be silly, your mindless humming when it is too quiet, your handwriting when you sign your name in blank sheets of paper, your muted laughter when you are trying to be polite, an

What would it cost Him to murder that bastard? If anyone can do it without getting caught it's Him, but my prayers remains unanswered. It has accomplished nothing, but I can't stop praying; my hands are stuck in this posture, certainly not because of my better judgement. If the Almighty cares about His angels up there, why doesn't He avenge the ones down here? The ones I'm helping bring to this world, and whose father has abandoned before they're even born?
In the unlikely case God does pay attention to my thoughts aside from the incriminating ones, here goes again, Ruler of the creation.

Opened the door in my soul
Could you ever love me again
your presence takes away my breath
All these years I've tried to keep you for myself
Shielding you from the pain that stirs in this world
Here I am, left alone, in sadness
You ran in the night
So I'll be behind
All you've done's forgiven
Couldn't face it alone
So you had to go
All you've done's forgiven.
Watching the clocks keep ticking away
Still the time hasn't healed my pain
Was I destined to be wronged?
Your heart was looking away
and mine sheds crimson pain
All these years I've tried to keep you for myself
Shielding you from the pain
