Tutorial.Okay, here it is! My Video Tutorial. It's not too long, around 30 minutes of time lapse with me chatting / trying to give advice / effing rambling! Hopefully I don't sound like too much of an idiot >_> The time lapse is of the painting that I continued to work on (through livestream). It's in HD so the quality is quite nice. The tutorial doesn't go through to the end of the painting. It just covers the way I paint, if you want to watch more of it, the rest of the painting is available to watch on demand through my Livestream channel. I'm not sure how helpful my attempt at a tutorial is, but hopefully it'll answer some of the questions I get!
p.s. I'm sorry I called you a dick Camtasia! I MEANT Cam Studio >___>
Any more questions? Formspring me !
Thanks for watching my LS too guys, I'll be doing more in the future.
Why are quality artists expensive? In short, because you are also paying for all of the un-paid hours those artists spent researching, studying, practicing and honing their skills. For your average professional, that's thousands of hours. That's a lot of non-paid preparation time that needs to be made up for. That, and of course freelancers have to compensate for their financial insecurity and lack of employment benefits (think of a pension, sick leave, health insurance and paid holidays). This is, in a nutshell, why professional freelance artists are so expensive. Why are quality artists expensive?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm just clearing this up for those people who ask for "pro-quality art" and are then surprised that they will need more than $20 to afford it.
It is also for those beginning freelancers who undersell themselves dramatically because they feel they should adapt to their clients' unwillingness to pay for their hard work. I know, I'm actually guilty of having done so myself and yes I lost the majority of the clients I had by doubling my prices, but I also

Seriously, too often do I get emails and notes regarding to doing work for a stranger or having a stranger asking permission to use my art, and often their compensation will either be non existent, or potential exposure.
And I know I've made a journal entry about this last year but still it never hurts to remind ourselves of what's happening with our industry.
I can't stress enough of how frustrating it is trying to explain to those who are doing work for free because they're desperate, or those looking for artists to work with but have zero idea how this whole infrastructure operates.
If you are a person seeking an artist/craftsman's time and service, be prepared to offer compensation just as you will be needing to pay after eating at a restaurant, or having a plumber coming into your home to fix your clogged pipes. And if you're new to seeking out the aid of an artist for your project. Be
Some more useful info for writers/worldbuildersI don't think I ever shared this link, but anyone who wants to write (mainly fantasy) should really check out Brandon Sanderson's lectures. The classes cover everything from character development, to world building, constructing your writing and publishing. Some more useful info for writers/worldbuilders8 months ago in Literature Features More Like This

Tutorials and techniquesQuite a lot of people keep asking me for tutorials and to be honest I see no point in creating yet another strip on how to paint skin/clothes/light/carrots/whatever. There are so many of them out there that it would be simply a waste of time to sit and basically copy what's already been told.Tutorials and techniques3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Instead, I've decided to make a compilation of different tutorials and charts that I personally use to learn how to paint.
The most important thing you need to learn even before starting to read a tutorial is that all walk-throughs are meant for you to understand how things work. My point is that after reading and later practicing a tutorial called 'how to paint a glass duck' you should be able to paint not only a glass duck but also anything else made of glass. You should concentrate on understanding the rules and patterns instead of trying to copy what you see on the image. Otherwise you'll end up knowing how to paint only a few things from only one perspective and one lightning pattern.

Humans are versatile and tricky bastards-- able to master any number of skills and abilities. They are also the unfortunate delicacy of the new world and had to transfer their boundless intellect into surviving. Sometimes surviving just isn’t enough, though. That’s the problem with those sentient bastards; they’re just so damn hard to satisfy.

And I decided to make more useful journals You have to wait for my next tutorial A LOT, so I decided to make short tutorials here...in journals. So in this article you'll find tutorials: How to make layers, How to change color to a layer, How to make groups/folders, How to change background color, How to rotate canvas and all basics in tool menu on the right side. 1. They don't have flaws. Flaws are the first thing that should be explored in character, at least after the first flashes of inspiration have passed and you start moving into more concrete turf. People say Mary Sues are defined by lack of flaws; the flip side insists that giving your character "issues" won't make a character any less of a Mary Sue. Now, my definition of a Mary Sue doesn't involve flaws or the lack thereof; a Mary Sue, to me, is defined by the disproportionate amount of attention given to a Sue by the plot and the priorities of other characters. So, yes, it possible for a Mary Sue to have legit flaws and still be a Mary Sue. However, the difference between "issues" and a character flaw is what role they play in the character's deve
Advices to comic writers from a readerPart 1 – StorytellingAdvices to comic writers from a reader2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I read a lot of comics on deviantArt and other websites, and I see a lot of good things but even more bad things. I am not perfect and I don’t hold the sacred truth in my right hand. This is just stuff that bugs me. So here is my humble advices to comics writers.
Where is the story?
Many writers – or must I say artists in that case – have a good drawing style and cool characters, but no story to tell. If you have no story, you’ll lose your readers. And improvisation is not a good writing style. It leaves blanks that will confuse your readers and breaks the story. Think of your story first and write down the key events.
The first impression
Your first impression is your cover page. Don’t make it boring! Too often, the cover only display the main characters and tell absolutely nothing about the story or the genre. Your cover must be a teaser of your story, to catch the attention of the readers.

As soon as I manage to go through all the paperwork and the most urgent commissions, I'll be back and hopefully concentrate on creating something for myself and adding a few things to my portfolio.
In the meantime, I wanted to share with you a set of really great youtube videos of painting process made by Noah Bradley (noahbradley). He was nice enough to comment on what he was doing making the videos a great source of knowledge. He talks about all the technical details, gives tips and tricks, and does it in a very professional yet easy to understand way. I watch videos like that all the time and find them the
