Things to Avoid When Making ComicsOr, Things That Really Annoy Crowbar
Edit April 16: Given recent comments, it's come to my attention that the tone I've used is too derogatory and using others' work as examples was a huge mistake. I've rewritten it to be what I hope is more constructive, and removed the examples (since half were missing anyway). My intention with the examples was only to provide example of that one element, not to completely defame the authors or insinuate their entire comic is shit. All the examples had good and bad to them, but the focus of this write-up is the bad. [/edit]
The majority of these issues are things I see in OCT entries and could be easily avoided and/or improved on. Please be aware that these are things I find issue in, and some points may be more subjective than others. For most points, I've explained why I think it's wrong, what can be done to fix it, and how it can be made to work well. Above all, think about how each element of your comic impacts the narrative and

What Makes a Good AuditionThis is a guide to writing for OCTs. Every medium and genre of writing is unique and should be approached in a different way, but if you keep the following things in mind when you write for OCTs your audition and character will come across much stronger and be more likely considered for a roster position. What Makes a Good Audition5 years ago in Writing More Like This
Judges and your general audience alike are typically looking for three major factors when they read your audition: Interesting Characters, A Unique Plot, and Clarity of Storytelling. If your audition does not excel in at least one of these areas you will almost certainly be looked over when it comes time for judging no matter how slick and professional your art is.
I firmly believe that there is no such thing as a bad character. Any character, if presented well, can be interesting--be they Human, alien, psychotic, or cliché.
The trick you need to employ is treating the character in a way that supp

So last night I was coming home from hanging out at my oldest brother's apartment. Before I left he told me to take out the trash, so as I went for the dumpster, 3 black dudes passed by asked me the location of Food Star and if it'd be open. I pointed them in the general direction and doubted it was open. They went off in that direction.
After I dumped the trash, I continued on my way home, which happens to be the same direction as those guys were walkin. So I ran into em again, and they were just chillin on the sidewalk. I give em nods as I passed. Then the guy at the end asked me if I got a smoke. I'm not a smoker, so that's a no. Then he asked if I got any dollar bills. I didn't have ones but I did have money so I figured I just pull out my wallet. (Yes, I realize that was a stupid idea as many people here have been telling me. You'll see why in the next paragraph.)
The next thing I knew, the dude in front held a pocket knife at

"I imagine that every person on earth has been affected in some way by the destructive spirit of contention, resentment, and revenge. Perhaps there are even times when we recognize this spirit in ourselves. When we feel hurt, angry, or envious, it is quite easy to judge other people, often assigning dark motives to their actions in order to justify our own feelings of resentment.
. . .
We can so clearly and easily see the harmful results that come when others judge and hold grudges. And we certainly don't like it when people judge us.
But when it comes to our own prejudices and grievances, we too often justify our anger as righteous and our judgment as reliable and only appropriate. Though we cannot look into another's heart, we assume that we know a bad motive or even a bad person when we see one. We make exceptions when it comes to our own bitterness because we feel that, in our case, we have all the information we need to hold someone el

If you see your name on the list, congratulations! Your hard efforts have earned you a place to compete in the main competition of End Run. Your character will now be moved onto round 1.
"My character didn't make the cut. What now?"
Sadly your character didn't make it into the main event, but that doesn't mean they can be counted out. You are allowed to turn them into an NPC character. However you will need to fill out the appropriate NPC application.
"SO WHEN DOES ROUND 1 START?"
Round 1 shall be released February 5th. Exactly one week from now. CAN'T WAIT? Neither can I. So we'll be having a mini event coming up early this week to keep you tied over. Keep your eyes peeled.

I've got two series around now. Both are connected somewhat yes.
Elements of Earth(related gallery folders:http://samurai-sky.deviantart.com/gallery/5323350 http://samurai-sky.deviantart.com/gallery/26752302)
The biggest story I am working on. There are two worlds, one with humans (basically our world) the other with inhuman creatures aka creatures we consider that only exist in fantasy/fiction. A very long time ago, these two worlds were actually one, and humans back then had these magic/powers sort of thing called "Elements". But shit happens and there's a war with humans and creatures, resulting in having to split the world in two and place a seal between them, divide the two sides and lock away human's powers as well as their memories of anything powers/magic/creatures related.
But as time passed, the seals to both the barrier between the two wo
Musashi Talks Physics: Nuclear Reactions Part IThe purpose of these "Musashi Talks Physics" is to get people who aren't acclimated to the sciences a bit of a glimpse into Physics in such a way as to not scare them off with ridiculous math, and maybe at least show that science can be interesting.Musashi Talks Physics: Nuclear Reactions Part I2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Forgive me, as it has been much to long since I did one of these. BUT, since I'm reviving this, I might as well try to make something interesting. Since people like big explosions, I figured I can talk Nuclear things, as it's pretty hard to top nuclear explosions!
So, without further ado, let's talk some Physics!
As much as I'd love to get to talking about how to blow things up as soon as possible, we need to set up the fundamental ideas first before we can talk about the fun stuff. So I apologize in advance that we won't go straight to the fun stuff.
...and before we can talk about all the fun things pertaining to nuclear explosions and stuff, we need to take a step back and ask ourselves this question.
What do we ne

FeaturessssuhWELL-- I tried to feature everyone who commented regardless of limit, but then I saw that journals now have a size limit? 8D ;;Featuressssuh2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, I just chose certain extra individuals that exceeded the 10 limit 8'D
Sorry about those who didn't end up on the journal; I actually had already picked out features, but yeah. Journal limit kept me from being able to post without cutting :[
1. For each of the 10 first people answering this journal, I will put their avatar and the three deviations I like most from their gallery on the list!
2. If you answer, you have to do the same in your journal, putting the tagger (me) on the first place. The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone!
Animation Shorts ListHaven't been posting much of what's happening with me (lazy I guess |D), I decided to make this list of all the animation shorts I've seen and enjoyed and want to share with you guys. ....said a fourth grade student to me last week at an Elementary school during my character design lesson. The little boy's comment to me about how worried he was about not being able to accurately represent what he wanted to on paper made me stop and think about something our society sort of imposes on our artists.
Since when did skill in drawing = how good of an artist you are?
I'd like to know.
Of course, we all know drawing is a fundamental skill in which every "artist" is expected to understand the Elements and Principles of Art and Design with because these elements and principles translate to ALL forms of visual art.
LETS STEP BACK AND THINK.........
Think of Art Mediums like Musical Instruments.
Think of Drawing as the Piano.
It's the instrument that most people develop an understanding of Music Theory to begin with.
But what if you picked up a guitar first instead of a piano-- and y
