pro tip: me.deviantart.comwe have this cool feature that may not be very well known...
if you go to me.deviantart.com you will land on the profile page of the account you're currently logged into.
(if you aren't logged into any account, to our frontpage you go)
it even works with any profile sub-page, like me.deviantart.com/journal/ or .../prints/ or .../gallery/ etc. which will direct the clicker to their own journal or store or gallery.
your newest deviation? me.deviantart.com/latest/
neat and simple, right? we originally implemented that to make it easier for us to link deviants to their own pages in our FAQs, but of course anyone can use it.
sadly it can be and is being abused, too.
you may have seen those stupid "worst artist on deviantart [link]" signatures, which upon clicking the link take you to your own profile.
while you may be lead to believe that you are being targeted by such half-witted prankster, simply hovering over that link and taking a glance at your br
CEA Blog: Mature ContentHey guys, today I want to talk about Mature Content on deviantART and hopefully clear up some misconceptions that exist around it. For those of you eager to look at some boobs and hot male torsos, I'm afraid I won't be including any here .CEA Blog: Mature Content3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
How the mature content filter works
All members over the age of 18 can choose to enable or disable the mature content filter to suit their needs. All members with a registered date of birth under the age of 18 have the mature content filter locked on and can not disable it. All logged out visitors have the mature content filter enabled and can not disable it.
The mature content filter is split in to two types, strict and warning. The strict filter is completely voluntary and prevents any deviant with the mature content filter on from accessing the work. The general or warning filter is the standard mature content tag and will remove the image from immediate view when browsing and place an warning page on the devi
Harassment: A Survival GuideIt's no secret that the members of deviantART are an opinionated bunch! For good or ill, there is always plenty to say about art that speaks to them. It's always pretty unfortunate when we find a talented young artist here on dA when they are just too young to hold an account with us. Today I would like to talk about what to do when you stumble across a deviant that is under the age of 13 years old.
So what do we consider to be "underage" and what does dA do about it?
dA complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, meaning we prohibit any child under the age of 13 from opening and using a dA account. Even with parental permissions this restriction must stay in place.
When an underage kiddo is brought to our attention their account will be closed automatically. COPPA closed accounts are kept as they are until their owner reaches our minimum required age. Upon verification of their age their account can be restored to active status and all its contents will still be there.
For more information on what COPPA is please go here: COPPA.org.

Copyright and "Theft"
Why sharing can be illegal.
There is quite a bit of confusion about copyright law, the DMCA, fair use, de minimus, etc. And rightly so. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt when I come across what appears to be a "theft" issue. Even people in the United States, the home of the DMCA and one of the strongest supporters of
CEA Blog: How to Submit an Abuse ReportHi deviants!CEA Blog: How to Submit an Abuse Report4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today I would like to address an issue that unfortunately happens quite often in abuse reports filed to our support center. We've had guides and articles written about this in the past but we felt it was time for a refresher!
So what is an "Abuse Report"?
The Abuse Report category is where a deviant would file their ticket under if they are being harassed or was witness to someone else being harassed out there in our community. Not knowing where to go or what to do when this happens understandably only adds to the problem!
Before anything else, please remember that abuse reports are only for the most severe of harassment issues. Things like disagreements, debates, general rudeness one might experience due to the anonymity of the internet or personal drama you may have with another deviant are some minor issues that can be easily handled by taking advantage of our Hide and

When the deviantART Groups system launched in beta nearly two years ago we fully expected it to become home to a large variety of Groups centered around every subject possible and that is exactly what has happened and we are really encouraged to see so many embracing the Groups concept and coming together around these common topics to share their thoughts and works.
Yes, we see how great that has been. The freedom to make any group you wish. Well, as some of you may have seen, sometimes that is not the best thing. For example, groups hating black people or any other race, groups showcasing stolen art work, porn, etc, etc. Perhaps the Staff should look more into the groups being made.
Today wed like to discuss a certain type of Group which often come

At the beginning of the week, the dT team worked on improving our internal development tools to increase efficiency. Then, on Wednesday, we let any staff members at the retreat pitch fun and exciting ideas for deviantART features that could be built in two days. After each feature idea was pitched, everyone from dT chose which projects they'd like to work on. Throughout the year, engineers primarily work on projects that are assigned to them, so sometimes it's important to turn the tables and let them choose projects in which they're most passionate and excited about.

For those who may not be familiar with these types of Groups, what we call a “vigilante” Group are those which are created and centered around gathering deviants together to encourage the reporting of rule breakers and members who may be in violation of one or more official policies.
While gathering together in order to promote following the rules is not a bad thing there are good and bad ways for these types of Groups to operate; We always appre

dear dA: age is irrelevantthis recent deviantart poll "At what age does an artist have the most artistic freedom?" is a condescending and narrow-minded question.dear dA: age is irrelevant3 years ago in Personal More Like This
often i see people have opinions about age and how it relates to art. some say that they are too young or too old to do one thing or the other.
well, i have not been on this planet very long, i can't speak for everyone and everyone's circumstances are different. but i will say this.
you are alive. and since you are, there is nothing that can stop you from your freedom to express yourself through art or anything that you have a passion for - especially your age.
don't let anyone's preconceived notions about your social status stop you from doing something that is so much bigger.
a blank canvas doesn't care how old you are, where you came from or what inspires you. you will always be able to fill it with what inspires you no matter what.

Cyberbullying and Your DeviationsThe term "cyberbullying" was first coined and defined by Canadian educator and anti-bullying activist Bill Belsey, as "the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group that is intended to harm others."Cyberbullying and Your Deviations3 years ago in Personal More Like This
While the actions which make up cyberbullying can vary depending on who you are talking with or what website you are on at the time, as far as we here at deviantART are concerned the act of cyberbullying involves a range of behavior from hostile and aggressive communications, to threats, sexual remarks, hate speech, ganging up on victims by making them the subject of ridicule or humiliation.
The practice of cyberbullying is also not limited to children, when perpetrated by adults toward adults these same behaviors are sometimes referred to as cyberstalking or cyberharassment but regardless of what name you attach to it, cyberbullying has grown into an increasing problem since the behavior was first ident

So this is the skinny.
First and foremost, we have gone through my caps, and I have had a variety restored.
The only one that should have been restored but wasn't, was not restored because it had been deleted for too long. So, for some of you, it may not be possible to restore your wrongfully-deleted caps. Yes, there is a time limit on your removed deviations for restoration, and it's apparently a short one. May 31st was when I first began my ticket, when said cap was first removed, and it was properly answered well after the time limit had expired (almost two months after I began the ticket). Isn't that alarming? We all know how long it takes the Help Desk to answer tickets, especially when it comes to policy inqui

A Note on Daily Deviation FeaturesAt ten features into my tenure as Community Volunteer for Abstract & Surreal Photography I am noticing a certain trend in response to abstract and surreal Daily Deviations. With that said, let's get to the troublesome themes I am coming across.
The "This is crap!" Argument
As an observer and a critic, you're entitled to think that something isn't very good. However, exclaiming as such on the comments of a piece of work that an artist has spent time and energy creating is not only counter-productive, but rude and insulting, especially if it's not followed up with some advice about how you think they could make their

Few words about art-thieves.Hi!Few words about art-thieves.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
My dear watchers, I really appreciate your support when it comes to fight against art-thieves.
But I bet there are also many people whose thoughs can be interpretted like "why is she so hysterical about it?". Some people say, that the fact, that some photo is worth stealing, is a kind of compliment.
Ok, so let me present my point.
At first: why am I so unhappy about reposting of photos?
Because, pals, if somebody just reposts a photo without any change, it just gives totally open space to other people who would find the photos on his/her blog, taking it and posting it themselves. And because the first person did not credit the original author, they also do not credit the creator. The more people do that, the more times the photo is reposted. Always without credit. Sooner or later, it becomes a kind of "public" property and original author has almost no chance to effect this situation.
Do you know this photo? Honestly, EVERYBODY knows it. But do you know original author? Do you

Well, today I’d like to discuss what we consider spam to be and and how we would like you to report this to us.What is Spam? How do I report it?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
What is spam? A brief history.
Spam is the Internet equivalent of junk mail you may receive in your post advertising some product or telling you that you might be the winner of a large jackpot prize. Typically this content is low level advertising sent out in bulk aimed at getting the attention of a handful of individuals. It often has some level of truth but often also has copious amounts of small print that say you must be no taller than 5 foot 10 but no shorter than 5 foot 9, you must have brown hair and wear your footwear on the wrong feet.
With the advent of the Internet and email mailing lists in particular, sending out this sor
