Guide on how to create vector-style rasters (OLD)EDIT - Dec 08, 2013 - This is OLD, like really, really OOOOOOLLLLD and outdated, and there are better methods out there. I don't even do vectors this way anymore. That said, it's still useful as a guide on how to use the pen tool to make shapes specifically for pony vectors in a manner where they're layered efficiently easily modifiable. Just felt the need to point this out as I am still getting messages from people who don't understand that this is old and that I know there are alternative methods. I thank you all for your input.
Before I say anything, if you're familiar with proper vectoring at all then once you've heard what I do you'll realize I'm not making "true" vectors with the process I use. This might seem a bit odd because what I do means that if I wanted to make a larger version of the image I would basically have to scale the paths I've made and re-"paint" the whole image, but I'm just doing these for fun so I make them large to begin with; the end re

I decided that I'm going to host a contest! AND IT'S FOR MY B-DAY!!

Try not to use bases, but you can as long as you use them properly. Make sure to give credit to whoever made the base!
MUST BE CREATIVE!!
Please try not to copy other people's ideas. I'm sure you can think of something amazing.
Mature content, well, just don't go too far with it or else I will not accept it for this contest. I'd prefer to keep it clean.

Please add a colorful background! I don't want any of them to be white
Hanging out with Weird AlI went to see my old bandmate Weird Al last night at the Pacific Amphitheater. We have been exchangng e-mails lately talking about MLP:FiM. I used to play in Weird Al's band, and have toured and recorded with him. We are good friends. All the guys in the band too. My homies. Especially Kimo and Bermuda.Hanging out with Weird Al2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Gee, wouldn't Al be a good guest star for MLP:Fim? Wow, seems like such a natural fit, don't you agree?
My daughter was supposed to record me chatting with him after the show but forgot to hit record...
Well, until we started talking about MLP. I just posted that on my You Tube page...
I miss playing live.
Man those guys are GOOD and TIGHT and play like monsters. And Al sang and performed his butt off. And the show is REALLY REALLY good.

On Behalf of Everyone...Thank You.Earlier today I received a message from our Studio B receptionist letting me know that a package had arrived for me. While I wasn't at the studio, I had my good friend pick it up so I could retrieve it from her later on. At first I was a bit weary to the situation, I didn't know who it was from, nor was I expecting anything in the least. All day while Raven and I passed our time at the mall, I pondered and worried about the strangeness of the situation. I found it odd that someone would send a bouquet of beautiful flowers and two carefully wrapped presents to the studio (who wasn't my husband to be anyhow!)On Behalf of Everyone...Thank You.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Later on in the evening, I met up with Nicole and I finally got to see the gifts in hand. I brought them home and unwrapped them to find two giant boxes of delicious treats, and a letter that made my heart and mind feel at ease again. "SGT Dave", a soldier currently placed in Iraq had sent these wonderful gifts
If you take commissions for DA Points......please be cognizant of the value of points compared to real money. If you take commissions for DA Points...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
400 DA Points cost US$ 5 to buy.
That's 80 points per dollar.
This means that if you are offering an art commission for, say, $10, you should NOT be offering the same commission for 100 points. You should be charging at least 800 points.
If you are aware of the exchange rate and yet still undercharge for points when compared to real dollars, I suppose that's your prerogative as an artist. But you're really just giving others a way to take advantage of you by paying you in points instead of cash, even when they are fully capable of the latter.
Those looking to commission artists with points should, of course, be aware of the exchange rate, too. I have seen many people complain about artists asking for 300 points for their artwork... not realizing, of course, that it's only $3.75!
And, of course, the same applies when paying in different real currencies around the world. Make sure you check your exchange rates.
Ponyscape v0.3!!Happy New Year Everypony!!Ponyscape v0.3!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm proud to announce the release of version 0.3 of Ponyscape!! This is a continuation of the work on version 0.2, and includes some really cool new features! I've spent most of my time off during by holiday break working on and tweaking things in this release.
I have compiled binary packages for both Windows and Linux Mint 14 64-bit (should also work on Ubuntu 12.10). On Windows, download the zip file and extract it with 7zip or winrar and run ponyscape.exe. On Linux, download the deb package and install it by running "sudo dpkg -i " or using a GUI package installer of your choice. You can download these binary packages here:
Alternatively, you can download the entire source code and compile from scratch. I can confirm that compiling works on both Windows and Linux, and hopefully
Before you throw that pity party read thisBeing in touch with your weaknesses is important in order to grow as an artist, but are you so hung up on what you can’t do well that it’s holding you back? I'm not talking about the intermittent (or frequent) attacks of complete blockage, or even lack of inspiration, but full out pity parties. Before you throw that pity party read this2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I’ve seen far too many people on dA who post exercise after exercise, writing in the artist comments that once again they’ve failed, they’ve read hundreds of books, studied the masters for so many years, and they still cannot draw a photorealist rending of a man’s head. First of all let me say that I highly respect “self taught” artists and I’m not discouraging anyone who chooses (or must) go that route. However, setting realistic goals and finding your niche is extremely important. Let me say this: not everyone will be able to paint like a Baroque period artist! But that doesn't mean you can't be a painter, it just means

Our First Contest! *Updated*Greetings Everyone! Our First Contest! *Updated*2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have some very exciting news to share with you all, we are going to hold our first contest for the month of October! We have partnered with dAhub for this contest.
The theme will be "Halloween" I know, a few other groups are doing Halloween themed contests, and since we would like as much support and participation as we can get for our first contest, we are going to allow (for this contest only!) deviations already created, and ones you're working on for other groups. While this is not ideal for us, we don't want to lose any participation due to other on going contests.
We have come up with, what I believe are some simple but important rules for this contest, and encourage you to follow them, or disqualification from the contest will occur, and we do not want to have to disqualify anyone.
Our Rules are:
+ One entry per member!
+ All art media accepted.
+ No mature content, please.
+ Your entry, must have a link in the descr
New Korra Trailer Released**Contains Legend of Korra Season 1 Spoilers**New Korra Trailer Released1 year ago in Personal More Like This
And honestly, I'm not feeling it. Doug Walker (aka The Nostalgia Critic) has been doing a series where he's been vlogging his experience watching the original Avatar series for the first time (Take a look they're actually really good go watch them! http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/specials ). He's a new fan to the series and his enthusiasm and critique of the original series has only helped to intensify my loathing and hatred of The Legend of Korra's disastrous season finally.
The more I remember how amazing and awesome the original Avatar series is, the less I am interested in picking up the pieces and following these unlikable characters through another series of exploits, especially after haphazardly killing off the main villain in such a clumsy and awkward way. Not only that, but there's no growth to the main character at all. There's no journey of her learning how to be an Air Bender the way there was
