The Magic TouchThe afternoon was warm, the sky cloudless, the wind light. It was a perfect summer's day, and the cicadas were singing. In the shade of an oak tree on a hilltop, three ponies sat on a large blue-and-white gingham picnic-blanket, a game of Monopony between them. A basket nearby held the remnants of a fine lunch.
Overhead, a pair of winged unicorns flew through the clear skies. Behind then a brilliant red hawk-like bird followed, trailing glowing motes. As they passed over the hilltop, the smaller of the two flying ponies pointed with a hoof, then the fliers began to spiral downwards toward the tree.
The light thumps of the landing ponies startled the picnickers. "Incomin' royalty!" one of them yelled, and all three were quickly on their feet, then in a deep bow.
"Applejack! Rarity! Fluttershy! Fancy meeting you here!"
The three looked up, all smiling. "Your Majesty! Majesties, that is..." Rarity dipped her horn to Princess Celestia, then again to Princess Luna. "Such a surpri
Forever With The One You LoveTwilight rolled over in bed, the purple mare's body slowly stretching in her half-awake daze as she murmured gently to herself. As her eyes closed once more to enjoy those last few moments of blissful sleep, her forehooves dug into the bed sheets before bumping into something familiar. A wistful smile crossed her muzzle as she smiled, reaching forward with her muzzle as her nostrils began to sniff her favorite scent. Opening her eyes slowly, Twilight saw Trixie's half awake eyes staring back into hers as a sleepy smile crosses the blue unicorn's muzzle.Forever With The One You Love3 years ago in Drama More Like This
"Mmm, good morning, sleepyhead..." Trixie's usual defenses by now were dropped when around Twilight, but her voice still carried that slightly haughty tone to it at times. It wasn't intentional most the time for her, it's just that the magician unicorn had her stage persona so ingrained into her normal psyche. "It's about time you woke up..."
Twilight gave a slow smile as she reached out, her right hoof touching Trixie's face lightly as

Trixie found the days passed by quickly and peacefully from there. She began to develop a routine. By the time she awoke Fluttershy was making breakfast, typically oatmeal, a warm and filing meal that started the day right. Trixie would take her mornings easy, still recuperating. She had gotten her books back from Twilight, and would review them, often in the garden if the weather held. She would then usually accompany Fluttershy into town in the afternoon, having lunch with her or just taking the chance to stretch her legs. She began to fill out little by little, her coat gleamed once more, and she regained her former energy. Only one thing stood between her and true health. That was why, nearly a week since her first visit, Trixie found herself in the Ponyville library again, Twilight Sparkle staring at her.
"Absolutely no magic?"
"None at all." Trixie shook her head. Twilight frowned.
"What happens if you try?"
Trixie shuddered. "Nausea. Trixie would rather leave it at tha

Trixie made her way down the stairs unsteadily the next morning, feeling rested but hungry. She realized as she walked down that she was being watched. Looking around, she found a white rabbit standing on a small end table, glaring at her. It made her feel unwelcome, but Trixie just glared back at it.
"Do not mess with Trixie, rabbit, or she may make you part of her next routine."
The rabbit did not look amused. A noise distracted her, and Trixie looked up to realize the birdhouses hanging from the ceiling were occupied, small sparrows talking to one another from their houses.
"What kind of house is this?" Trixie just stared on. Another bird emerged from a larger house. It was a robin that began to whistle a tune. To Trixie's surprise, a silky voice sang back, wordlessly, in perfect key.
"Good morning- oh, Trixie!" Fluttershy entered the room from the kitchen. Trixie realized she had a light blush on her face and immediately scolded herself. Why was she blushing?

"There you go, Mr. Badger. You make sure you stay off that paw now." Fluttershy told the small critter in front of her, one hoof holding up a bandaged paw while the other carefully stroked it's back. The badger gave a grumpy growl in response.
"Now now, it was her vegetable garden after all. If you're ever hungry, come see me, okay?" Fluttershy responded, patient as ever. She gave the badger back his paw and the creature wandered off. Fluttershy smiled and looked around. Today was just a perfect day in her mind. The sun had warmed the hill she sat on, making it all the more comfortable as she tended to the creatures that came to her for aid. She preferred to tend to them in her hut, where she could thoroughly clean and care for any wound or problem, but many wild animals weren't all that comfortable indoors, and she did her best to accommodate them.
However, her next visitor was no small critter. A cloaked figure emerged from the Everfree forest, turning to Fluttershy once sh

Trixie awoke slowly, feeling an odd peace about her that she hadn't felt in a long, long time. Her entire body tingled pleasantly, her muscles were entirely relaxed, and she found a smile on her face. She stretched a little and opened her eyes.
Almost immediately her mood fouled. There was less light than last time, but she could still make out the same yellow ceiling as before. She quickly remembered where she was and why. That pegasus, she had... tricked Trixie. Tricked her into accepting food and aid, Trixie realized. She wasn't sure what exactly the pegasus had done wrong. But the indignity of it infuriated her.
Trixie looked herself over and gasped slightly. Her body was more bandages than not, her legs entirely covered and several pads held to her sides with medical tape. She realized her muscles were relaxed thank to several damp clothes placed around her shoulders and hips. She shook them off and immediately regretted it, yelping as her bandages rubbed and made her aw

The next morning, Fluttershy and Trixie shared a breakfast of oatmeal again. Trixie found it easier to get around and ate almost an entire bowlful. She realized most of her original wounds were healing nicely, and while her side was tender it wasn't painful to move, usually.
"The others will want to know you're up." Fluttershy said. Trixie glanced down at the floor.
"Will they really care?"
"They're my friends too." Fluttershy responded. Trixie nodded, understanding what she meant.
"Shall we... go out?" Trixie asked. Fluttershy paused.
"Are you...are you sure? They could come..."
"Trixie has healed excellently under such adept care." she smiled at Fluttershy, who blushed slightly in response. "Besides," Trixie said softly, "she promises not to exert herself. She doesn't want to spend a single day more bedridden."
"Okay. A day out would be...nice." Fluttershy smiled. Trixie nodded and waited as Fluttershy cleaned up breakfast. They made their way to the door. That same rabbit

Trixie groaned and stretched as she woke up. Her legs felt like lead. Opening her eyes revealed a familiar ceiling. It was the middle of the night, a half moon providing only just enough light to see by. Trixie wondered if she could go more than a week without passing out anytime soon. She glanced up as if to see her own forehead, and focused for a moment. Sure enough, a pale blue light emanated from her horn.
"Hah hah!" she shouted in excitement. A murmur caught her attention. She looked over and found Fluttershy asleep on her stool, just like a week ago. Trixie smiled and chuckled. She gazed on at Fluttershy for a moment, before a small part of her reminded her of her situation. Her smile turned into a deep frown. She forced herself out of bed on the far side from Fluttershy.
"I've taken enough from you." Trixie whispered. Her horn continued to glow as she enveloped Fluttershy in a magical aura. She gently lifted Fluttershy from her seat and pulled back the covers. She slid
Between the Dusk and the DawnThe sun had set hours earlier, but Rarity was still in her workshop. The sewing machine hummed, the thread unreeled yard by yard, and all the pony-mannequins were occupied with half-completed outfits. Though she was tired, and as usual had taken on more work than she should have, Rarity was happy. She was singing. Perhaps for this reason, her pet Opal had abandoned her for the peace of the upstairs rooms.Between the Dusk and the Dawn3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

Her work-reverie and song were interrupted by the jingle of the bell on the shop door. Without looking up from her task, Rarity called out "I'm so very sorry, but the shop is closed."
"Oh! I should probably come back some other time then. I saw the lights on and assumed..."
The voice was soft... gentle... familiar... but something about it made Rarity's mane fluff up a bit. She

"Wind?" Dash licked the back of her forehoof before raising it high above her into the air.
"Good! Clouds?" she called to herself. Looking from atop the cloud where she was perched, she noted the empty sky around her.
"Clear! Cheering section?" The blue pegasus sat up, ears alert as if expecting a round of praise. After a few silent seconds, she looked over the edge of her cloud at the ground below. "I said 'cheering section?'"
Rainbow Dash could just barely make out the yellow and pink blur. Fluttershy, sitting peacefully on the grass far below the blue pegasus' cloud, shot up to attention. "Oh, um,... yay!" she replied, though barely above a whisper.
"Ugh..." Dash placed a hoof over her face. She knew the pegasus below her had the heart, but her voice usually hid it behind meek expressions. Nevertheless, her cheering section was ready. "Check."

"It's such a shame that you can't stay in your old tower," Celestia continued as they passed a series of huge stained-glass windows interspersed with tapestries thousands of years old portraying the history of Equestria. "I'm afraid the renovations are really quite untimely."

AUTHOR'S NOTES: This is one of many stories I've thought up walking around at work with my head full of technicolor ponies. I felt the urge to write something about everyone's favorite non-crosseyed background ponies, and this is the story that came to mind. I really liked it and I hope it comes off as sweet as I imagined it. I love these two! There needs to be more of them.
The sky is awash in many shades of orange and gray as the light of day wanes. Knee-high grass sways in the gentle breeze, a beautiful ocean of jade stretching out as far as the eye can see, dotted with an array of multicolored flowers soaking in what remains of the sun's rays. The meadow ground climbs upward into a modest hill featuring shorter grass, and adorned with one lone, large tree. The sun slowly disappears behind the tree and the horizon beyond, gradually blanketing the area in darkness. The darkness is quic

Twilight groaned. "Why am I suddenly incompetent, Spike?"
The purple dragon peeked over her shoulder as she flipped back and forth between the pages of the ragged book. "It's not like that at all, Twilight! I just think this is too big for you. I've heard stories about stuff like this."
Twilight Sparkle poked her head up. "From who?"
"Ponies." Spike nervously fiddled his thumbs.
"What kind of ponies," Twilight asked, beginning to lose her patience with her assistant's neighsaying.
"Ponies who know things."
"I'm just saying, I don't want to come back and find six little craters in the library!"
"That's not going to happen," Twilight said, returning to the text. She wanted to laugh, but she was genuinely nervous about making the spell work properly, and Spike's apocalyptic scenarios did not help alleviate that

Twilight Sparkle was, as was often the case in the afternoon, intensely focused on reading a book at her desk. Tonight, Dr. Hawk's 'Astrological Anomalies and Astral Artifacts' was the subject of her attentions. With Spike out of town for the week on Canterlot business, she had the entire place to herself. Every single shelf lining the tree house library's walls crammed with condensed knowledge, all for her.
Pausing as her mind snagged on that thought, Twilight frowned. Sometimes she wondered if she was the only pony in Ponyville who actually enjoyed a good book. There was something terribly disappointing and wrong about Spike's absence resulting in predictable solitude.
When she thought about it like that, she almost missed the baby dragon already. Though she loved her friends dearly, none of them were exactly - to use a term they loved to apply to her - "bookworms".
There was a loud thud, the library shaking as something impacted against the outside walls of the library. The resultin

These mornings didn't give them a lot of time to bond, and she felt all the worse when they spent that time fighting. At least alone as they were in Celestia's study Luna could be convinced to speak candidly.
"It's not that I don't want to spend more time with you, you know that." Celestia said gently. Her little sister was having none of it, and she looked up from her tea with a glare.
