I've been a lot more active at http://dolls-of-rozenheim.tumblr.com recently, working on my little horror rpg.
So, one thing I've experienced thus far with this is that, even though I am still in the beginning stages of the game, I've already received anonymous hate mail and threats about it. You might be puzzling yourselves as to why, and really, the reason itself is ridiculous.
The reason is this: One of the ghosts in the game is themed around the mental illness she had in life, which was a skizophrenic psychosis. Mind you, these are not tropes used to be "Scary oogidy boogidy" things. It is as much a part of the character as her hair or her skin. As a ghost, yes, she is violent, she is bitter (As are MOST of the ghosts, even the ones who were kind in life.) and her theme is based around her illness, so that the player gets a taste of what she's gone through in life. It is meant to inspire compassion just as m

As art theft and misuse of stock becomes more and more of a problem, we are losing access to some of our best premade background resources. I think it's essential that we start learning to do our own backgrounds.
In this feature I will be adding some of the background tutorials that I have in my favorites. This is just a few of some of the great tutorials out there.
If you have any that are not listed, I invite you to add a link in your comment.
In a future journal, I will be showcasing some of our awesome stock artists that still provide free premade backgrounds.
Watercolor tips and tutorials!Hey guys. So I've been asked countless times to make a watercolor tutorial... and while I don't really have time to put that together right now (it's that crazy time of the semester) I did write out a few very basic tips regarding the nature of watercolor. I do plan on making an actual tutorial eventually as well, with pictures and more stuff about process. Perhaps this winter I can make a proper tutorial!Watercolor tips and tutorials!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
-Start with a ground wash at the beginning of painting something, with a high concentration of water. Starting with a light color base will help to unify the color scheme of the rest of the picture.
-Watercolor dries lighter than it looks when it's wet. Remember to keep this in mind. Gouache, on the other hand, dries darker. That's one of many things that makes combining gouache and watercolor tricky
-Work in layers, from light to dark. Don't expect to go straight from a white page to a dark color all at once! The darkest areas will come last.
-If you've got two areas of differ

This is a informative article, outside of the normal DLD activities, to bring awareness to a pair of bills currently under much discussion and debate. These bills are called called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIP (Protect IP), presented to the House of Representatives and the senate (respectively) in the United States. Later in this article, we will also discuss how these bills have a world wide significance. At the end of the article are several links to the actual bill, news articles, and forum/journals related to this topic. Our aim here is to give to a brief overview, and to answer some questions concerning this debate.
SOPA itself is an attempt to stop online piracy both domestic and foreign by the United States Gov't. It employs a variety of tactics in order to achieve this, including scannin

Adoptables, PricingMany people have asked me about this subject and while I did write a small 'Pricing' section in Adoptables, Basics for Adoptables Artists, the requests have not decreased so I decided to do a Journal dedicated to it.Adoptables, Pricing4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Pricing is a tricky art because you need to balance three things, the Price/Effort ratio, the Price/Design ratio and the General Market Price.
This is what you think you deserve to earn and the price that you would put on your adoptable if you didn't take into account the other two aspects. This takes into account mainly two things:
Time spent on the adoptable
Obviously, spending five hours on an adoptable instead of one makes the price rise. Many artists use a hourly wage to do their commission prices, so you should time yourself when you do an adoptable, at

FOR ANYONE WHO'S READING THIS A BIT LATE
This all happened about five to six months ago. Obsessing about this would be just silly, on either side. If you managed to find your way here by now and would still like to know what happened, I'll give you a quick summary.
There USED to be a BHB journal explaining everything that happened , but DA recently banned a bunch of groups for whatever fucking reason. Anyways, it turned out that Rai (Nincianda) was Kas all along and wasn't actually 13 and had been banned from DA I believe at least 10 times already? Anyways, she was caught and flipped the fuck out. Aisha was caught tracing and left DA forever, but she still uses tumblr.
Nincianda ended up being someone who drew badly but found out people thought it was cute for a 12/13 year old. She also ran around telling people crazy stories about how she was abused and other shit, but when

Anyhow, I still have some commishes on hand, but I might be slow for these for my mid-semester tests are coming next week, I want to take revisions on it. I'll still finish them, but not as fast as the other ones.
Also, even if I have reached my $1500 goal, I will still be taking commishes until further notice~ I will come up with more commish ideas soon and here are the updated commish list as for now, please refer to these for the future commishes:

The United States Congress is proposing two laws that address the problem of wide-scale unlicensed distribution on the Internet of motion pictures, songs, trademarked goods, and patented pharmaceuticals.
One of the proposals is called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and would direct search engines in the United States to block Internet sites outside the United States that are primarily engaged in distributing unlicensed content.Another proposal called PIPA (Protect IP Act) would block websites located in the United States as well. The Obama administration is putting a stop to these proposals. It wants the Internet companies and the content companies to get together and come up with more functional and less destructive solutions.

It was super fun and we had a great team of 3 guys.
Nick Waanders (Code), Kevin Regamey (Sound), and me for the art.
the voices (all awesome) were:
Stephanie Komure, Colin Regamey, and Joshua Matumona.
and the sweet music was done by:
The theme was "Alternate Universes" So we made a game about an ogre that has to exterminate the horde of princesses in a castle.
It's caled "Princess, Die" and here's a video of it!
and here's some stills!
48 hours isn't a lot of time so you really need to just get as much done as you can as fast as you can. I learned a ton of stuff that will help make our next platformer super cool! thanks for checking it out guys!
