Told You We're On Matt Smith's PhoneFor those who maybe didn't believe the story I told about our group meeting Matt Smith & Karen Gillian at this past summer's Comic Con and having them snap photos of us for themselves on their mobile devices, have a look at this clip from the Friday Dec 23rd, Graham Norton ShowTold You We're On Matt Smith's Phone3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Ignore Gillian Anderson (yeah I couldn't believe that was her either) and check out Matt's comments in the last 40 seconds.
For fun here's the photoshopped version of our Matt Smith/Karen Gillan pic with the 4th doctor added- as it should be. He would have been there but for a few mistimed minutes anyway. Even though that unintentionally mimicked "The Five Doctors" pretty closely. Minus the wax Tom Baker statue...
TUTORIAL! How to fix wet paper!Have you ever done a drawing and accidently spilled water on it? Or maybe your paper just ended up too wonky from painting too much? Well I have the way to fix that!TUTORIAL! How to fix wet paper!5 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now if you spilled water or juice or something and messed up the coloring or the drawing itself...well I can't help you there...but I do know how to make your paper go straight again after its gone all wobbly.
For this you'll need:
- The messed up drawing. It has to have already dried. Do NOT try this while the paper is still wet!
- about 4 to 6 spare sheets of thin paper from your printer
- spare fabric, enough to cover the drawing. A nice cotton shirt works well
- an iron
- a heavy book
Step 1: prep your iron so its nice and hot. While your waiting for it to get warm go to step 2.
Step 2: Lay two sheets of paper onto a flat surface. I used a notebook but a table or thick board works too...a cushioned ironing board will not
Points are NOT DollarsOh hi, guys! I'm going to talk a little about points this morning. They're cute. They're fun to trade and deviants like getting them! But, I've wanted to write up a journal about this for quite a while now. It's a reminder of what points actually are and for artists to not grossly undercharge for their work. There's lots of tips out there to help artists settle on a price that is fair to them as creators and to their buyers, but I understand it's entirely too easy to undersell yourself. It's difficult to find that balance between making an actual profit and scaring off any potential customers! This is coming from an artist that still struggles with it herself.Points are NOT Dollars7 months ago in Personal More Like This
It's a tiny bit easier to come to a decision when thinking in terms of real dollars. Unfortunately, I've noticed that understanding is lost when art is sold for points here on dA. And when a creator totally GETS it and charges a fair price in points, they're often told they're overcharging. But, for the most part, both creators a
My LegacyCancer is such a scary word…but I’m okay. I’m at peace with this. I do wish I had a little more time… But really I’ve discovered that with the last weeks of my life, I only have a few goals. I want to spend as much time with friends and family as I can, I want to leave behind as much happiness as I can, and I want to create as much artwork as I can I just want to leave behind a big bubble of love for you guys!My Legacy1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Of course that’s easier said than done, especially since I can’t just come and meet every single one of you and give you all giant hugs! It’s really hard to wrap up everything I’m feeling and send it to you all so that I can try and make your lives a little brighter, lol. But, there’s a solution!
I’m in the process of making a book of my artwork, a little bit of me that I can leave behind! Money made aside from publishing costs is all going to go towards research for cancer, so you’ll all be giving a

Sometimes it's not until someone you love is gone that you realize what a loving, caring & helpful person they were to so many people.
Our family is very close and we know that Alicia was the upbeat heart, the one who always wanted to decorate for the holidays and kept us doing things together even as the kids got into college. She was our glue of fun! Our traditionalist; Tacos for thanksgiving..don't ask it's a long story.
Our thanks go out to all of you who let us know just what Alie has done for you. If is was her attitude about the cancer or something as simple a kind word in reply to your comments on her art. She loved when people commented on her art.
I wanted to let you all know that her book has not been forgotten. I have been going through the notes she has received ab

Most denizens of the West think of New Zealand as a little known outpost of civilization somewhere beyond Australia at the ends of the Earth.
Could any land be any farther from the European motherland, birthplace of the Renaissance that is the Genesis-point of the visual arts narrative we continue expanding and evolving today? And yet this remote country of islands in the Pacific has suddenly become a cinematic storytelling powerhouse, a film-friendly factory for the creation of some of the most important touchstone mass entertainment experiences to influence our popular culture in recent years.

I close my eyes, the touch of your fingers
Through monochrome the memory lingers
into your hands i'm resting the pain inside of me
You and me
A dream of blind destiny
And it's into your arms I'm melting
And it's the first time I've ever felt like this
You are the hand that's dealt me
The tempter sealing my fate
With a kiss
And in a flash, the stars align
I search beyond the words, wanting a sign
But lost inside your eyes
Lies become clearer to see
They tell a different story
So take the reins and don't let go
I want this pain to scar deep, for I know all our past receives healing, with memories concealing
we cry to the light of the moon
this night's become a wonderful haven and in my it's what Ive craven
addicted to this sea, Ive even lost the need to breathe
and its out of my life your fading and its the warmth of your arms i still desire
stuck all alone I'm praying to never share my one kiss with a liar
and in the dark I'm left alone

MLP: Minky Color Guide:
Which minky color works best for ______ (insert MLP character here)?
This journal is an attempt to answer that question. There are more than 50 shades of minky out there, and as a plushie maker, I realize that it can be difficult to know which color will work best for the particular pony you're working on. This is made even more frustrating by the fact that many of the images of the minky do not show the true color!
I recently ordered a ton of swatches from fabric.com, and I'm continuing to collect swatches from various websites, in an attempt to get most of the minky colors. Because I have the actual fabric with me, I can compare it to the characters' colors to see which fits best, to ensure that you can make a plushie that is as show-accurate as possib

I'd just like to mention publicly, that I, as well as artists in general, are not art vending machines.
You don't type suggestions in, and then have a slot where artwork comes out for free .
Important to Note: I am not addressing any individual in particular. If you think this is about *you* specifically ( whoever you are)- don't. This about the private notes I get, with alarming volume, where people feel they can simply request artwork from me for free. I get a *lot* of these. Which prompted me to post something about it. I usually just ignore them, or, if I feel particularly polite that day, I send them a note back saying I don't do requests.
But they never stop o_O. And it's not that I mind suggestions in comments under artwork, such as: "Oh, I hope one day you will paint _________." or, "

It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you of the passing of our darling daughter, Alie. Her final days were fairly peaceful, sleeping much of the time but also able to watch some of the Winter Olympics and enjoy her favorite event, figure skating. Her final moments were peaceful with both parents by her bedside.
We have all been preparing for this day for the past several weeks, knowing it was coming far faster than we hoped. From the moment in December when the news came of her terminal illness, Alie has continually amazed us with her positive attitude and limitless spirit. We have all learned from her selfless approach to life, her giving nature, and her passion for the possibilities that life hold for all of us She was so thankful for all of the outreach shown to her by her friends and family and we share in that gratitude. Unfortunately she was just too weak to be able to a

Please read this if you are interested to learn more about the dolls I photograph. I dont have time to keep answering the same questions over and over again >_< I will be updating this journal entry as time goes on. Feel free to add a question in the comments section and I will try to answer it.
❤ BASICS ❤
What are these dolls?
They are BJD - ball jointed dolls. If you search Google with those keywords you will get plenty of results with companies and other info about them. This is the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball-jointed_doll. Also this LJ answers some questions too http://bjd-wtf.livejournal.com/ . If you want to learn more, I would suggest Den of Angels forum (http://www.denofangels.com/forums/).
Do you make them?
No I don't make the actual doll, I don't sculpt it. I am a customizer, I paint their faceups. I am basically a makeup artist for resin dolls. You can find the link to my commission shop
Art class 101 -Digital painting beginning exerciseSphere demoArt class 101 -Digital painting beginning exercise5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
This is a great way to try digital painting and to get used to two very different methods of digital painting, I will refer to them as glazing and direct painting. I find when teaching this to my students that it is about a 50/50 split as to which method the students prefer. Either method will produce beautiful results.
The reason I start with the sphere is so that students master the techniques on a simple object, but dont let that fool you. A sphere is a very complex shape when you are first starting out. If you can mater shading a sphere smoothly then you will be well on your way to mastering digital painting. I often suggest students try the sphere exercise several times until they can do it smoothly.
The goal of this exercise is to master the values to produce the illusion that the sphere is three dimensional. If you have ever taken a drawing or painting class, you may have done this exercise before with more traditional materials. There are 6-7 values needed to
Why I disagree with Kony 2012Many on here and on Facebook have messaged me about the Kony 2012 movie. It's very well-made and definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.Why I disagree with Kony 20123 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Kony is a terrible criminal, and I am very much for bringing him to justice. However, I do not share the enthusiasm of the overwhelming majority about the movie and the proposals put forward by the makers. Here are ten criticisms I came up with, in no particular order.
1) If something is being hyped up all around you, this is a strong signal to think for yourself. Be especially suspicious when someone wants to use FORCE to do GOOD. Paradoxically, if you REALLY care - don't fall for appeal to emotion, as is being done here. Consider the implications and outcomes, rather than the motives. Don't let the public opinion shape yours, let the facts do so. Don't let one issue overshadow other issues which could be more important. Don't be afraid to disagree with the majority. Truth i

A more mature style of Lolita that focuses on Baroque, Regency, and Rocaille styles. Colors and patterns used in classic Lolita can be seen as somewhere between the Gothic and sweet styles; it is not as dark as Gothic Lolita, but not as cutesy as sweet Lolita. This look can be seen as the more sophisticated, mature Lolita style because of its use of small, intricate patterns, as well more muted colors on the fabric and in the overall design. Designs containing a-lines, as well as Empire waists are also used to add to the more mature look of the classic style, most classic Lolita
