SQUID'S BOTTOM 8 WING SINS (A TUTORIAL)So like I said to the two people who aren't protesting the watch feed, I originally wrote this as a vicious rant, but it turns out I was redirecting anger from a RL thing. rrr.SQUID'S BOTTOM 8 WING SINS (A TUTORIAL)2 months ago in Art Features More Like This
But still. These are annoying as hell. If you see someone doing this junk, send them this. It may be their only chance of salvation.
SIN #8 INCORRECT FLIGHT FEATHER STACKING
There are few things that can be said with absolute confidence that are true of all birds, but this is one of them: the flight feathers always stack the same way.
This can be confusing to remember, so keep a hand of cards next to you while you draw:
SIN #7 NO FEATHER GROUPS
I'm so sick of seeing these homogenous walls of crap.
Feathers stack in a predictable, orderly manner, so just take thirty seconds and learn it. If the phrase "dorsal median primary co

Not because of copyright. I understand that when you post something on the internet, you're posting it for everyone to look at, and it's going to get shared around. But the comped-up piece of shit you see above (minus my commentary) is all over the internet - it's far more widely distributed than my original version. Back when I used to read my messages here and on Fetlife, I had 12-20 messages per day about stuff like this. Mostly it was people trying to be helpful and telling me "HEY! Look over here, there's another person who smeared shit all over your art!" And it used to take me an hour every morning to cut and paste URLs into DMCA requests to get this kind of crap taken down.
But that's really only the tip of the emotional iceberg for me. About 1 in 10 times that I post a DMCA I'd get a message from the perso

A word or phrase that is not formal or literary and is used in ordinary or familiar conversation. synonyms: slang, idioms, patois, dialect.
Examples: whatcha, gotta, face on, ovver.
I’m sure you’ve had a good telling off by your teachers for using colloquial language inappropriately in your writing. I’ve had essays returned with the word “too informal” scrawled along the margin or a big red exclamation mark next to a certain word, who hasn’t? What just me? Oh right… my bad!
So WHY would we use colloquial language in our writing, after years of tackling the angry red pen?
I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by its over – or a person by their accent – but it happens. You can tell us a lot about a character by the kind of language they use. Are they all gangsta, dropping hooded verbs

DreamKeepers Comic Experience and Review"What the hell is DreamKeepers?"DreamKeepers Comic Experience and Review2 years ago in Personal More Like This
That's the question I was asking myself when I first clicked on their website. What is this? Anthropomorphic characters? Nightmares? A Dreamworld? *Overload* To answer this question, I poked around the website and indulged in the highly descriptive and creative sections dedicated to the Dreamworld and its inhabitants. I was amazed at the detail that was put into the technology, history, and creatures that populated this strange and wondrous world. I was amused for a while, but soon I moved on and went somewhere else. A few months later, I was watching YouTube videos of some guy named Elson Wong doing some voice acting. I looked through his videos, and sure enough, there was DreamKeepers again! I watched his animated adaptions, and I became curious once more. My curiosity rose when I also found a slew of amazing fan art right here on DeviantArt, which made me want to return to the site and give it a second look.
I knew from the start that DreamKeepers wa

So a few friends have been asking me lately what I've got against this inexplicably popular series that seems to have popped up recently called Axis Powers Hetalia. They love it... and I HATE it. Hate it hate it hate it!!! But the mere fact that it fills me with boiling rage everytime I think about it is not a good enough reason for them, so I guess I'll try to piece together why it pisses me off so very much. -I'm- not even entirely sure why I d
Rant: Social Justice WarriorsYou guys know the drill. The opinions in this rant are my own and you don't have to agree. If you don't, that's fine. If you do, thanks!Rant: Social Justice Warriors3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Ah, Social Justice Warriors. SJWs, hypocritical assholes, the cancer of the internet. Whatever you choose to refer to them as, we all know they're the ones who claim to be all for a certain thing, or are trying waaaay too hard to stand up for what they believe in when all they're really doing is being cruel to others and probably don't have a clue about the cause they're 'fighting' for nor care about it when the shit hits the fan.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with social justice. Not at all. We need someone to keep the peace, but then again, we're always going to have idiots and less-than-civil people who are going to cause trouble. To be honest, I didn't know what a SJW was until now. I saw how much people hated them and figured it may be a decent topic to rant about, so I looked it up. It's pretty much what I suspected but never cared ab

What's the Difference Between....Allen Gregory and Brickleberry? What's the Difference Between....2 months ago in Personal More Like This
This is a genuine question because I genuinely don't know. It's no secret that I tend to not like adult cartoons. The formula seems to be say something purposefully offensive to piss people off and mix it with as much raunch and sex and violence as possible and boom you've got a hit on your hand. Yet, the difference between Allen Gregory and Brickleberry is that one gets cancelled six episodes in and the other goes on for three or more seasons. Yet, they're both the same kind of shock for shocks sake. If one is popular, logically the other should be.
There are obviously good cartoons aimed at adults like Futurama, but sometimes it's extremely hard when I'm reviewing a show like Adult Party Cartoon or Mr. Pickles (and no, it's not a goddamn Rugrats episode) to not feel like I'm critiquing a hentai for having porn when a deer eats a placenta or a dog tears off something's head. When reviewing Breadwinners I know that a children's carto

The Voice Of Feminism is not Anita SarkeesianI have watched Anita Sarkeesian's latest offering. Episode one of "Tropes vs Women" entitled Damsils in distress. At some point I plan to make a video to go into further details on all that is wrong with her position on how women are used far too often as objects to be possessed or claimed. that they can often times be reduced things to be passed between two males fighting over her like a piece of meat. what's her arguments? in short she goes after donkey Kong and ends with super mario and princess peach. The Voice Of Feminism is not Anita Sarkeesian2 years ago in Personal More Like This
she ignores details when they don't fit her message and she doesn't even bother to learn about the characters because... you know...facts and shit. she says peach is like a ball being passed between mario and bowser. first off if anyone is reducing peach down to an object it's....Anita herself. she starts off talking about the bad and slightly sexist trope of women being kidnapped and men having to bravely come to her rescue as a form of sexual conquest. that the man can claim his "wo

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, NEW MEXICO, USA, OCTOBER 30 2012: A drone pilot, left, and a drone sensor operator practice
on a simulator at Holloman AFB, where drone pilots and drone sensor operators are trained. Working side by side with the pilot,
the drone's Sensor Operator watches targets (sometimes for hours or days) and tags them with a laser just before the pilot
shoots the drone's missile (photo Gilles Mingasson for Der Spiegel).
The New Mexico desert gets blistering hot, but inside the small windowless container where Brandon Bryant worked as a drone operator for the U.S. Air Force it stays a cool 63 degrees all year long.
Sixty-three finger numbing degrees and Bryant describes sitting with a group of other pilots looking at more than a dozen computer monitors. The crew are directing drones over Afghanistan 6,250 miles away and the screens jump with a two to five second delay, as infrared video sent from the UAVs whips through the air t
The Future of Media- MusingsAwhile back, someone interviewed me for a business class. I thought a couple of the questions dug up some hot air worth blowing around, so here it is!The Future of Media- Musings2 years ago in Personal More Like This
QUESTION: In your opinion is small businesses, including physical and online stores, growing? Also do you think they will ever grow to the point where they are a bigger and more influential part of the economy than big businesses?
That's an interesting question- since I mostly just make a comic, my insight is limited. I haven't a clue pertaining to business as a whole. Regarding entertainment media, things are moving in two starkly different directions right now, and it fascinates me.
Corporate media conglomerates continue cannibalizing one another, growing fewer and bigger, into titanic monoliths. Think Time Warner- or as a recent example, look at how Disney has assimilated both Marvel and Star Wars. All those properties are now the domain of one massive corporation. It's unprecede

Will keep it shortas this press conference wasn't exciting at all. And not because I'm a Sony fanboy, but because I really hoped they'd do something great with this next console.
They showed a lot of functions I couldn't care less about. Maybe that's the shit in US. but ESPN is really not my thing. I prayed to God they'd quit showing off with how you can interact with ESPN live matches, but they mainly focused on that.
Here's the XboxOne console trailer!
I was aware that they might not show almost no games at all, but they did. And what they did wasn't all that spectacular. Will come back to this in a bit.
As an overall impression they saw this Press Conference as a chance to focus and present all the features of the console so that everybody gets it right so that when their E3 Press Conference comes they wouldn't have to waste time with presenting the console. I bet this year as well they'll waste a lot of time showing off with their Kin

"You can't just be an atheist, you must be progressive and support gays and support women."
It's a load of fucking narcissists who think they can NOT do any wrong barge their way into a group and tell them all that, regardless of whether they're invested in these ideals or not, they're horrible fucking people if they don't conform to their new rules.
Atheism Plus was, and is, and will continue to be a caustic movement. "Your bad because we think we're better."
It's happening to gaming now.
It's like what happened with Occupy Wall Street.
The message of that movement was "We don't want corrupt politicians." Who the fuck would argue with that? No one!
But then these fucking lunatics who all want to be the most special elbow into this movement and start setting up No-Rape zones (which isn't society at large, obviously everyone loves to rape unless they're told not to) and started sending /two people who thought th
Love Your Enemies in Your StoriesThis morning someone commented on a youtube trailer I made for one of :iconfleetlordreach:'s original story ideas.Love Your Enemies in Your Stories2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The story line of Dixie and the Dragons is the alternate history of the Civil War in which The South domesticated dragons to fight on their side giving them an advantage, at least until The North followed suit.
The comment was simple but it stayed with me:
'Um... which side is the audience supposed to support?'
This morning was also Palm Sunday, one of several major observances at my church leading to the commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth: the redemption of all of humanity's sins through the perfect sacrifice of the creator of the universe.
By way of a Lenten observance I decided to watch the movie Passion of the Christ, a movie that till today I'd only seen once. It's an incredibly harsh story, which follows since it basically blow by blow (literally) pres

I don't usually do call out threads, but today I'm feeling sassy. Besides, the subject of this journal, TomPreston, blocked me a while back. I guess for being a "troll"?
I had seen his comics on the front page nearly every day and didn't think much of them, however after he wrote A Harsh Lesson I began to critique his work. Partially because I wanted to see if he'd practice what he preached (he doesn't) but mostly because he has the ear of many young artists and is sending them many bad messages. Over time critiquing him became an exercise for myself on the nature of comic making, and I got into interesting conversations with various people in the course of posting them.
I stuck to mostly his long-form comic work, and stuck mostly to critiquing writing and occasionally the art.
It came to a point where he seeme
