JACKSON POLLOCK: Champion of the New Art
My Jackson Pollock Nine by DarkLinkFire
Just as Dada and surrealism had been the art world’s mocking response to the world’s failed progressive pretensions in response to the anti-human horror of World War I, the art movement that blew up in the wake of World War II’s repeat performance was “abstract expressionism.”

Bosch: Lampoonist or Serious Visionary?
Creator of some of the most bizarre and frightening artwork in the history of art, scholars have long debated who exactly Hieronymus Bosch was and what was the meaning and purpose of his “over the top” grotesqueries (c. 1450—1500). His most famous work is the triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights. Panel One depicts Adam & Eve in Paradise. Panel Two depicts the earthly delights: nude bodies, exotic birds, bowls of fruit. Panel Three depicts Hell’s punishments for partaking of the delights. Centuries later, scholars debated whether he was a radical religious heretic or a satir

The Three problems with how we learn art: pt.3I've been thinking about how and why we learn to draw for a few years now. I started self-analazing my own drawing and character design thought process when I began writing my first art instruction book, "Creating Characters with Personality". It was harder than I thought to verbalize how I've learned and how I process drawing. This has led me to start looking back at my artistic life and how I learned art. What made me learn the most? What drove me to draw and stick with it? What led to others I knew as a child to stop drawing? I think I'm ready to present some of those thoughts here on DA and hear what you think. This is part 2 of three in a series. I'm not sure where this is leading, but step one is my establishing an online art instruction school called Taught ByA PRO (http://www.taughtbyapro.com) that will (in phase one) concenThe Three problems with how we learn art: pt.32 years ago in Personal More Like This

It's been forever since I last posted a feature ! Mostly by lack of time... and also a bit lacking motivation. I was still around, though, looking at all the beautiful artworks people post every day.
So, here's a little selection of pieces that caught my art in the past couple of months.
No particular theme for this feature - no Valentine feature
I hope you'll like them.... enjoy and stay tuned, as there are more to come !

Pokemon Collab - EndedIn order to save my sanity - I've quit this project. I'm very sorry to have let down anyone. If anyone wants to pick it up, go nuts.Pokemon Collab - Ended3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In the spirit of :iconMrNostalgia: pokemon collab, I'm going to do my own.
Basically I'm looking for artists (of any level) to give me lines for the 5th gen pokemon (those are the ones from Black/White) - and I'm looking for unique art for each one.
Your lines just have to be black on white or transparent background, and you can draw it in any style you wish! Don't worry about the size, so long as you can make out the pokemon, that's fine! Huge is awesome, but totally not necessary!
I will be coloring said lines - just link them to me here.
Please sign up for your favorites here (give a few, just in case) and I'll let you know which you get!
If your pokemon has mulitple forms, just pick one (or both) to draw. You have exclusive rights to said pokemon, so just go nuts!
Lines will be due a week after the last slot is filled! Please help advertise!
ATalkHappy Easter everyone! I feel like... I just want to talk today. Because I think there's things I've learned and feel and think that sometimes I just want to say.ATalk3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Let's start with stories.
What I find great about any form of storytelling is how honest it is. There is no other form of shared knowledge that can teach us how to live our lives better. None. That being said, we see stories in everything. We look at a tree with a fence grown into it, and think of when the fence must have been built, who may have built it, etc. We see a couple arguing on the street and ponder as to what could have gotten them to this point. We hear a snapping twig in the woods, and plan our escape route from whatever magnificent beast lurks in the brush! As human beings, we LOVE stories. But why?
We love stories because they teach us how to live. Think about any good movie, book, or other story. It should have moved you in some way. Some stories teach us how to deal with the intense hardship
Don't Get DiscouragedLast night on Twitter, one of the people I follow got super-discouraged about drawing and doing comics. Well, everyone, knock it off and here's why:Don't Get Discouraged3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Don't be discouraged by the works of other artists. I know that it's really easy to be! Usually it is because you are comparing your abilities to someone who has likely had many more years of practice and learning than you have. Of course that's going to be discouraging! Use their art and technique as inspiration for your own work! Feed off of it like a cicada on a tree root; learn and grow from their work and improve yourself!
Don't stop drawing. It's easy to say 'welp, eff this noise' when you find someone who draws better than you; but that's just not how to do things. If you stop after you get discouraged, you'll never practice and then you'll never improve and you'll always be at the same skill level. Don't say "I'll never be able to draw like that". Instead, say "I'll learn how to draw like that"! Then you go do it.
Don't worry about

A Collaboration between MARX77 & DeevElliott
What must any of us do before we can understand what we read in the Book of Life? When is one ready to write upon its pages his or her own contributions?
Life is no passive gathering of information. It is not a spectator sport. Only in participation is one truly alive. In order to express feelings or opinions about anything in life, one must have a personal experience of it. Only personal experience conveys the qualification and the right to speak, to write or to create art as explanation and explication of any topic of discussion and debate.

Message in a Bottle: The Eternal Act of Faith
Whether it’s the sole survivor of a plane crash, stranded on a fly–speck Pacific island or the forlorn deserted lover standing alone in the early morning fog at mid–span of Waterloo Bridge, there is nothing sadder, and nothing more defining of the human spirit, than the tossing into the sea of the “message in a bottle.” The idea, more than the actual execution, of this desperate measure, has come to symbolize an eternal act of human faith — that somehow Divine Providence will guide this message through the shifting seven seas to be found on a beach by the one who needs

KnowYourSources ~ Beta testers neededHi everyone!KnowYourSources ~ Beta testers needed1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I am planning on releasing a program called KnowYourSources, which is aimed at helping the life of both digital artists and resource providers by giving them a free tool to be able to organize whole folders pretty quickly and easily. I started it as a personal project to help me with organization and then I thought maybe it could be useful for other people too.
I guess all of you know the scenario, when you download a texture pack and after extraction you see the files named like tex01.jpg, tex02.jpg, tex03.jpg. The biggest problem with these filenames is that they contain no information about their author, so it is only a matter of time before you forget where you got them from. One possible solution could be to start renaming all of them one by one, but that's a lot of work. Ima
Top 11 Worst Family Guy Episodes*That I've seenTop 11 Worst Family Guy Episodes1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So with the ratings trap of Life of Brian I've decided to not only stop reviewing Family Guy episodes, but just being done with Seth MacFarlane's projects altogether. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that he wanted me to keep pelting his show. Because... he made a worse episode. Or someone did, I don't care. So, I'll get back to reviewing Family Guy's atrocities because... my god. I can't just let another SpongeBob run loose. Actually, modern Family Guy is worse than modern SpongeBob. So, here are my top 11 worst Family Guy episodes.
Number 11: Road to the Multiverse
I understand that a lot of people like this episode, and to be fair, it doesn't have a really good concept. It has a fucking amazing concept. What's the problem? No. Research. Done. First alternate universe is extremely advanced because Christianity never happened, despite much of science surviving thanks to Christian monks. And that the Catholic church has always been supporti

Dia de los Muertos
“Day of the Dead” is not the “Latin American Halloween.” On Dia de los Muertos, Mexican families visit the spirits of their dead in the cemeteries where they rest. They bring food and other gifts as part of a happy celebration of departed loved ones. Halloween originated with the fear of the sprits of the dead visiting the living so food was offered as bribery for the spirits to do no harm. It was a scary once–a–year intersection of the world of the living with the world of the dead. Day of the Dead continues to be a celebration as antidote to mourning the passing over of loved ones. It is about the ind
