Art History - Anthro Anthro Art - The BeginningArt History - Anthro4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics and qualities to non-human beings, objects, natural, or supernatural phenomena. Gods, animals, the forces of nature, and unseen or unknown authors of chance are frequent subjects of anthropomorphosis. The term comes from two Greek words, άνθρωπος (anthrōpos), meaning "human," and μορφή (morphē), meaning "shape" or "form." The suffix "-ism" originates from the morpheme "-isma" in the Greek language. .
The actual 'date' when Anthropomorphic art came to light isn't well documented so we can only go off what has been left behind for us to observe. This is most noted in literature, sculptures and fables.
From the beginnings of human behavioral modernity in the Upper Paleolithic, about 40,000 years ago, examples of zoomorphic (animal-shaped) works of art occur th

When Being Human Just Isn't Enough:icontechgnotic:When Being Human Just Isn't Enough4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The allure of Anthro Art is obvious to anyone who ever “owned” and loved a pet. (Only those who have never loved and shared lives with a pet speak of pet “ownership”!) Once a bond has been formed between a human and an animal the rigid distinctions between what is human and what is animal begin to fracture.
The definition of “being” becomes suddenly far more expansive. And soon the bonded human begins feeling spiritual affinities with the “animal” that are undeniably powerful and as “real” as any felt with other humans. The desire to leave all the lies and hypocrisies of human society behind and join in with a simpler and somehow more “honest” society of different beings in nature can become palpable and intense. “The grass is always greener…” and, oh!, to scamper across it on four liberating paws!

My art was stolen, now what?!You're casually browsing the internet when all of a sudden you see your art ripped on someone's myspace page, or elsewhere on the net, so what do you do?My art was stolen, now what?!9 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Well if you're an American citizen, you're protected under that infamous law known as the DMCA, or the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you right click your ripped image and select properties, youll be able to see the address where the image is hosted. If its photobucket or some other easily accessible site then you have it easy and you know where to go to find a support email address. If your image is hosted on a dot com, youll need to do a WhoIs search and the name server that is listed will usually give away the company that is physically hosting the site. You can then get in contact with most sites through a webmaster or support email if you take a quick look around their site.
So now you know where your image is, what company is hosting it, and how to get a hold of them, then you scratch your head and ask
Of friendships and birthdaysAs most of you will now have known, yesterday was my birthday. I spent it at home most of the day and wasn't feeling all too happy about a lot of stuff, and the fact that it was going to be just another day lost in the middle of many other normal days. And then I got on my computer and you know, I was going to Skype with my family and just enjoy the little fuss I knew was going to happen because family is family.Of friendships and birthdays1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

WindInTheCoffeeCup Your Wolfdogs are so beautiful. What exactly are Wolfdogs? Are they a breed of domestic dog or are they pet wolves?
InaWolfsimage Great question! Wolfdogs mixes or ‘hybrids’ are an animal that have wolf genes more closely introduced in the animal’s backgrounds. Wolfdogs can vary in content depending on how much was introduced into the breeding line and the type of breeding that was selected in order to pre

I was inspired to create this series by naikki while looking through her gallery of diverse artwork and reading through her journals which are focused on her favorite inspiring writers and thinkers. I felt certain there must be beautiful artwork in the form of portraits and tributes to these writers and their stories. I found most of naikki's choices of quotes to be inclusionary, redeeming and welcoming to any artist on their own path. Instead of just crediting naikki with the inspiration for this new series on depthRADIUS, I also invited her to provide a quote about Herman Hesse of her own to kick off this series.

Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming4 years ago in Personal More Like This

The United States Congress is proposing two laws that address the problem of wide-scale unlicensed distribution on the Internet of motion pictures, songs, trademarked goods, and patented pharmaceuticals.
One of the proposals is called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and would direct search engines in the United States to block Internet sites outside the United States that are primarily engaged in distributing unlicensed content.Another proposal called PIPA (Protect IP Act) would block websites located in the United States as well. The Obama administration is putting a stop to these proposals. It wants the Internet companies and the content companies to get together and come up with more functional and less destructive solutions.
So many artists underpricing...It makes me really sad.So many artists underpricing...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
When an artist you want to commission finally open their commissions back and all of their slots are taken in less than a minute.
And I'm sure all the slots would still be taken if the price was increased of x2-x10.
So many artists are still underpricing themselves. People make it a standard for art to sell for so cheap and whenever someone charge more than this standard, which is probably still underpriced, people complain.
By underpricing yourself, you are also contributing to keep the price standard of art low on this site. Charging low can be insulting to other artists, but also to yourself.
Please, don't ever feel like you need to underprice yourself, because of the fear of what other might think or say. You art is worth more than that. There will always be someone complaining, you cannot please everyone. Your time, the efforts, the skills you gained over years of hard work, is worth far way more than a few cents/points.
If you ever open your commissions an

"Though she knew better than to watch a fire all night since it damaged eyes the way smoke damaged lungs, she was captured by the beauty of the cormorant and impressed by her husband's unknown skill."
The first thing I noticed about this piece was the spacing. The paragraphs are mostly made up of small clumps of short sentences, which gave the piece a very tribal appeal in my eyes.

"I wished again I had what you have. Such a small thing you felt against the looming."
