This is WIP 3 of 4. I've had a lot of people ask me to do some step scans for Blonde hair, and thought this would be a good one. NOTE: I will post the FINAL in actual size, but these WIP's will be larger, so you can see the details.

Katie Herzig is a Singer-Songwriter from Nashville. She is part of the highly acclaimed group of Singer-Songwriters known as "TOT" or "Ten out of Tenn" (Tennessee), along with my song Andrew Belle. Katie is the one who sang on my son's song "Static Waves"

HERE, I first use my needle tool, and scratch the hairs, just as if I had a pencil. Then I used a 2B with an "over-hand" grip and laid down some graphite, after first darkening some of the shadows and low-lights. Next come the highlights...

HERE, I've started to "swipe" out some highlights in her hair, using both a kneaded eraser and a "Tuff Stuff stick eraser. After that I spent a couple hours working out the rest of the hair details. She had a sweater on, which I wasn't even going to try to draw all the threads and holes, so I tried to create something that looked close. The photo had a pure white background, and I felt she got washed out, so I decided to darken it.

As usual, I start with the EYES. If you don't those right, you won't like your work.

Just thought I'd load the Reference and the 2 WIP scans I took.

First, I cropped the colored reference photo I found on Google.com/images

and then, I converted it to B & W so I can see the contrast better.

We met Aaron Paul (Jessie Pinkman) at Hard Rock Cafe in 2010

Thought I would show you the reference photo (upper left) and 2 WIPs with the Final drawing. As you can see, I do NOT ALWAYS draw what I see, but sometimes I change some things that either do not look natural, or I think I like better (background, etc) Sometimes I DO try to draw EXACTLY like the photo, but not always. After all, a drawing is SUPPOSED to be an "artistic interpretation" of a subject. This is mine :D:D

Hey everyone...I decided to create a blog on wordpress just for drawing tips, since Google docs keeps upgrading, which changes the whole appearance.
You can find me at DrPencil.wordpress.com or click here [link]

This is a TIP GUIDE that I have been adding to since 2010 and is basically everything I think I have learned about drawing. It includes materials and tools I use, with illustrations. It is a Google Doc so it will change and grow over time, so be sure to bookmark the link [link]
