Daughters-Of-A-DogThe theme of the book is is dream destinations (real or imaginary), featuring 50's Jantzen girls.
Each page in the book has at least one eyelet, and a luggage tag attached, stamped "Destination" on one side, and "Traveler" on the obverse. Collaborators pick a spread and collage a destination, then label (or decorate) the tag appropriately on the front, and sign with their details on the back of the tag.
Collage: Paper, packing tape transfers, eyelets, luggage tags, string. (The tomatoes and the phrase "Food we eat" are on the original page of the book - I was going to cover them up, but then I realised I liked the shapes, the colours, and the words!)
I recently read an article analysing the symbology of 50's Romance comic cover art. The writer highlighted how often covers featured a couple in an embrace in the foreground, with a lighthouse (or the Eiffel Tower, or similar ... er ... construction) in the background; thus hinting at levels of ... um ... emotion that were not proper to portray explicitly. That's why I couldn't resist including the Tower of Pisa in this collage.
