THE STAR WARSI'm thrilled to announce my latest project. Coming this September from Dark Horse Comics, THE STAR WARS #1, the first of eight issues that adapt George Lucas 1974 screenplay "THE STAR WARS".THE STAR WARS8 months ago in Personal More Like This
I saw STAR WARS in 1977 when I was seven years old, and it was probably the most formative experience of my childhood. To draw a story written entirely by George Lucas, is a dream come true for me. I still can't believe it!
The '74 draft is completely different from the original STAR WARS film, but has similar moments from all six of the SW films. It's an amazing story, with more action, more drama, and more everything than the first film. This screenplay would have been impossible to film back then, which is in large part the reason for the revision to the story.
The first preview page is in my gallery that introduces the main hero, Annikin Starkiller, the son of one of the last surviving Jedi.
I look forward to sharing more art and updates with you!
Be sure to spread the word abo

And back to DA. :icondaloveplz: Right now I'm too tired to type a WHOLE journal about how my trip went, but I want to later this week. (Now all of it though, that's too much to put in one journal. And I might post some pictures too.) So I'm off to reply to my 41 feedback messages. And to all my DA friends, sorry if I delete any of your art from my watch messages. I have 11,266 of them, so I'm just going to delete like crazy and try to stop if I see my friend's art. <3 But I might miss it. Also want to color some of the sketches I drew while away. China is awesome.
That's it for now! Just wanted to say hi.
Some thoughts about...the so-called popular artists... I never want to talk about these things but, in all honesty, it makes me feel pissed off when I see a "doodle" done in a rather short time can still get 100+ faves in a few minutes just because the artist has many watchers (or submit it to many groups lol), even though personally I think there are so many underloved drawings out there that deserve SO MUCH more than it. And those drawings actually take a lot more time and effort to finish. Some thoughts about...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
You don't have to tell me something like "don't hate them because they're popular" or "they cannot control their popularity", I'm not hating them and I already know and understand the latter. But I'd also like to emphasize that just because a drawing gets like 1000 faves it's not necessarily good... and just because another one has less than 10 faves it doesn't mean that there's nothing special about it. I feel that many of us tend to judge a drawing by its number of faves and views - when it's faved by many people, we

Please be careful WHAT you SELL for POINTS!Dear members,Please be careful WHAT you SELL for POINTS!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
as we all know this delicious new function has been enabled by DeviantART recently which allows you to sell content for points and keep the amazing amount of 80% of your share.
Overall this is a nice new function and we can't wait to see what you will do with it. We just want to warn you to be careful about one certain thing:
You should not sell high res files of your work for a small amount of points.
The few dimes people will spare by not having to pay shipping costs can do you badly.
There are a lot of companies, that take your dear work and print it on T- Shirts, books, posters and what not.
And in the past those companies at least had to put the efford into taking your art and retouching it. But shall you think about selling high res files for a small amount of points, greedy companies as that will have it even easier to take your art, distribute it big, and give you nothing of your share!

I know Prime characters are difficult to draw due to their massive amount of details ect. ect. and Youtube quality is more or less very pixelated depending on who has uploaded episodes. So here's a bunch of screenshots for you to use as references. Only thing I ask is that don't share links directly to the images on photobucket, share this journal entry instead

Notes on Character DesignI received the question pictured below at my tumblr blog. In case it's useful to anyone here, I decided to go ahead and use this otherwise dormant journal to share the article I put together in response.Notes on Character Design1 week ago in Personal More Like This
Character design and drawing are tome-sized topics and even if I had all the answers (I don't - I have a lot to learn), I'm not sure I could communicate them effectively. Here are some thoughts an ideas that might help, though.
First, some general things...
Let some of that anxiety go. This isn't a hard science. There's no wrong way, no rigid process you must adhere to, no shoulds or shouldn'ts except those you designate for yourself. This is one of the fun parts of being an artist, really - have a heady good time with it.
- Be patient.
A design is something gradually arrived at. It takes time and iteration and revision. You'll throw a lot of stuff away, and you'll i

I'm new to the Bubbleline scene- and I'm so happy to be here on this beautiful ship! So, with the ferocity of a new fan, I've hunted down all the information I can on them. A few days ago I (finally) watched "What Was Missing". Wow. Amazing. Beautiful. So sweet. I emailed it to a friend who emailed back to me, "That's not even implied canon. That's ACTUAL canon!" <3 Of course, then I went to read on about the "Mathematical!" debacle (What happened there? Are they trying to un-canon a canon?)
But my problem doesn't lie with those at Cartoon Network or Frederator (well, some problems do). My problem lies with the majority (not all) of the non-shippers. Hear me out. I'm not upset with those who don't like the pairing or even those who seem to be blind to its existence. What frustrates me beyond belief are those who say, "Children's sh

Just prior to the show, my 6 year old son, Laine, mentioned to me that he wanted to start his own original art sketchbook, something he could take around to artists at shows and get sketches......"like daddy does". Imagine my surprise and utter joy at the idea! Anyone who knows me knows my passion for original art. Ive already been aware of my sons interest and notable artistic ability but I wasnt sure if he got the concept of what it was I was doing in terms of collecting originals.
Seeing as how Laine has an obsession with Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, doing a Capt Jack themed sketchbook seemed like a no-brainer. Its also a fun idea, not your typical Batman/Wolver

Seriously, too often do I get emails and notes regarding to doing work for a stranger or having a stranger asking permission to use my art, and often their compensation will either be non existent, or potential exposure.
And I know I've made a journal entry about this last year but still it never hurts to remind ourselves of what's happening with our industry.
I can't stress enough of how frustrating it is trying to explain to those who are doing work for free because they're desperate, or those looking for artists to work with but have zero idea how this whole infrastructure operates.
If you are a person seeking an artist/craftsman's time and service, be prepared to offer compensation just as you will be needing to pay after eating at a restaurant, or having a plumber coming into your home to fix your clogged pipes. And if you're new to seeking out the aid of an artist for your project. Be

Phishing is a serious matter on the Web. You've probably heard of phishing attempts through emails, the classic example being a fake email from a bank or other trusted authority, asking you to enter your personal information.
The individuals discovered and exploited a cross-site-scripting vulnerability in Journals that provided them the ability to redirect deviants to a different website, designed to mimic a deviantART login screen. Some deviants who did not realize that they were bei

to everyone who is still reading this,
if you want to help making things better, please go here http://dan14lev.deviantart.com/journal/Site-Updates-Week-2-of-2012-280120333 and suggest them to create a third front page option so that we'd have Newest, Exposure (current FP) and Popular (the old FP ) :'D
if we suggest it in many, they might listen to us!
I already did and others did the same!
okay, it's time somebody does something about this.
So I hope I'm not the only one who's being REALLY annoyed by this new front page system or glitch that's been there for almost a month now, and DA did absolutely nothing to fix or let us know they're fixing it or inform us in case it's a new system?!
for me it's not okay, before the pictures getting there at least were popular, they were there because they were chosen by people, because we liked them, because for the most part they were good and worth looking at!
how many of the good artists on DA did you see up there lately, not

Fan Art Law
Mon Sep 10, 2012 by $techgnotic
t seems there’s nothing quite as dear to the hearts of many of our deviants as their production of fan art, and at the same time, there is nothing so knotted with legal and ethical headaches. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but in the form of fan art it has also become one of the most frustratingly complicated. At some point, the sheer volume of fan art around a single property may become so large that the issue rises to another level of scrutiny by the creators of the original work.
With this dynamic in mind, we thought the following panel that Josh Wattles, our Advisor In Chief here at deviantART, and a mystery guest named Harold Smith, gave at Comic Con this year might be of immense help in understanding the ever evolving elements of fan art

It's back! With the goal of bringing a little cheer to patients in the hospital during the holiday season, the deviantART Holiday Card Project connects deviants from around the world and applies their tremendous artistic abilities in designing and creating uplifting holiday cards.
In past years, the Project has received more than 5,000 cards sent in by more than 1,000 deviants from 50 different countries/political regions. Cards were then divvied up and distributed in-person by deviantART members to local Los Angeles, CA hospitals, with additional cards given to various hospitals in the U.S. and abroad for hospital staff members to hand out to patients.
The idea behind the Holiday Card Project is simple: do something nice for others. However, if you're looking for even more incentive, every deviant who submits a card will be given a free one-month Premium Membership to deviantA
