People + Portraits ExposedSince the People and Portrait Galleries on deviantART are so expansive and vast, I get a lot of Daily Deviation suggestions on an almost daily basis for just those sub-categories. Of course, 3wyl and I can't feature them all - so this is what this article is about. Every fortnight I try and choose a selection of the images that have been sent in and share them in a feature.People + Portraits Exposed1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
This week the suggestions come courtesy of AgonizingSwordfish, DianaVVolf, Mrs-Durden, DrHouse88, pap911, AfricanObserver, Minato-Kushina and JamesFaraday.
Do keep the suggestions coming - send them via note to either myself or 3wyl. As most of you know, 3wyl and I take care of most of the sub-categories of the People and Portrait Gallery for Photography. However there are a few specialist CVs to send some specific suggestions to! Check out the full team here.

Many times a friend or a deviant has said to me, "oh I could never fold origami, I'm not gifted that way", but it's just not true! As part of projecteducate's Artisan Crafts week, I'm going to show you how simple it is to find and fold something gorgeous and to present it well to your internet audience.
With just a little inspiration and a bit of patience, ANY one of us could fold something absolutely lovely. So what are you waiting for?? Let's get folding!
1) BE INSPIRED
First of all, you need to figure out what you want to fold. You need inspiration from looking at gorgeous origami, from admiring nature and the world around, or maybe it'll just hit you like a random lightning bolt. We are super privileged to have many experienced and skilful origamists on dA, many who create their own models from scratch. From persona

A Year Or So Of Square ImagesHi,A Year Or So Of Square Images2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I removed tons of crap from my local collection of my creations and ended up with a few possibly interesting ones. Apparently dA journals don't support the <table> tag, only those unwieldy thumb tables with ridiculously small thumbs, so I made an external page with a nice layout and lynx to dA pages:
Btw some of the images are older than a year or so, I just decided to adopt squareness about a year ago so I would have to worry about only a single printing format, and then decided to squarify a few older ones as well in order to preserve them for posterity. I've noticed I haven't been making much greatness lately, which is a motivational issue and one which I will have to deal with myself or get a "real" job.
Below are the thumbnails anyway for your convenience and delight. The web page looks a lot better though!
Have fun, be amazed or whatever applies

PE Street, children, is a state of mindSTREET, CHILDREN, IS A STATE OF MINDPE Street, children, is a state of mind2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Street, children, is a state of mind: what defines street photography is not the subject, but the 'forma mentis' of the photographer.
Street photography is a way to look at the ordinary and see something special or unusual in it, to look at everyday situations and find a decisive moment in them, to look at candid happenings and see iconic interactions between people and surroundings in them.
The iN-PUBLiC | Manifesto, one of the most representative sites about street photography in the world, states that "all the photographers featured there have been invited to show their work because they have the ability to see the unusual in the everyday life and to capture the moment".
The subject of a street photo is not necessarily interesting, unusual, unseen in itself, but its strenght comes from the NARRATIVE CONSTRUCTION that the photographer is able to create around the subject. The way the photographer presents it,

I found someone that made my life colorful again. Someone that makes me want to live my life happily. We are a couple for two months now, but it already feels like years when we talk to each other. It's like I have found a soulmate. A person I can always relate to and a person always being there for me. With him, I feel like a princess, and like a little star.
I love you, Sascha.

How to improve your skills in close-up-photographySince many people asked me how I take my pictures and why they are so "special", I would like to tell you how I manage things when I take pictures. How to improve your skills in close-up-photography3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I. Finding the location
When I go outside to take pictures of nature, I do barely have any concepts in my mind. I just go and let nature inspire me. The first important step is finding a location. It is not that difficult to find an interesting background. I personally do prefer backgrounds which are not monochrome. Many shades of light (light and dark contrasts or different colors) make your picture interesting, no matter if the final result will be monochrome or colorful in the end.I look out for locations where not many people are. Like a big meadow in front of a house or a field or forests. (Forests do have the special plus that it does almost always have different light shadings I mentioned in 2).
II. Know your possibilities!
You have found your favourite location? Great! Many people do the mistake to

Bring Your Type to Life - A Typography ContestIt is time for another Typography contest! The theme of this contest will be…Bring Your Type to Life - A Typography Contest3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Bring your Type to Life
This may sound abstract at first, but to keep the theme as open as possible, I choose a rather abstract title. There are many directions in which you can go. You could choose an anthropomorphic direction, where you breathe life into letters and give them human or other animate characteristics. Another route would be to create the letters out of living objects, such as plants or animals.
Which direction you choose, maybe even a third or fourth one, does not matter. What matters is that your letters are brought to life!
What kind of letters you bring to life, words, glyphs or sentences, is 100% up to you. This contest has a more visual approach, so you will not be judged on the creativity of the meaning you choose to give to the letters. However, don't rush it! Even one letter can appear completely different than another. Be wise with the letters, word
