Avoid getting ripped off by a client. As a freelancer most of your business takes place online, which makes it really easyAvoid getting ripped off by a client.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
for people to rip you off. How many times have we seen the following scenario's:
1- Someone offers a descent payment for your artwork but wants you to do an art-test first.
after the art-test you're being told you're not good enough. Later you find out that other people
got to do different art-test topics and also weren't good enough. The client clearly ripped people off to get free artwork.
2- Someone offers good money for your artwork. The sketch gets approved so you continue working. Right when it's done the total image suddenly becomes a great disappointment and the client ends up not paying you.
These were just 2 examples of situations that happen a lot to freelancers. There are many more like it.
How to detect if a client is a bit fishy...
Does their email address look professional? Some legit people may use their Gmail address, with their real name or nickname, those are questionabl

Fast and easy way to create a reference sheet...Just the other day, I discovered a super quick and easy way to create reference sheets for digital painting. So, instead of having a ton of documents open all at once, slowing down your Photoshop, or spending a half hour to create your own sheet, you can use Picasa to create one for you in just seconds.Fast and easy way to create a reference sheet...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Below is a video I made to show you how. There are some other tips in there as well, so take a look if you're interested!

Additionally, the following comment was provided:
A member of staff has reviewed this deviation and has determined that the theme itself, or one or more details present in the scene, has made the work unacceptable for submission here.
As such this deviation has been removed in accordance with our policies and should not be resubmitted."
"Explicit Pornography"?! Aw, jeez, guys. You must have the worst collection of porn on the planet to think that was explicit.
A 90s Rochelle Swanson outing was more explicit that that pic, and that stuff got aired, uncut, on terrestrial UK TV (god bless you Channel 5, you made the young Jack jolly).
I believe that, for something to be labelled "explicit", SOMETHING must be visibly going in SOMEWHERE. Such was not the case in the offending image,

Below you'll find a list of tutorials I personally think of as the best on dA. If I have any problems with painting something I usually take a look at one of those.
Is there anything you're having troubles with? Need help looking for a good tutorial? Or maybe you'd like to see a video walk-through of me painting something?
I'm open for suggestions for what kind of tutorial/walk-through you'd like to see from me. If you're interested in anything, post your suggestions in the comments!

A simple guide on: Commissioning an Artist. It's often not as simple as one wants it to be when both artist and client want it to be: Cost efficient, time efficient and quality efficient.A simple guide on: Commissioning an Artist.5 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've often spend my time discussing the best way to handle commissions with clients and artist friends that I came to the conclusion that clarity and understanding is key.
I will divide the guidelines I work with based on 3 commission types.
Book covers ( or illustrations)
Reading all 3 parts will give you the full scope as a lot of it applies to one another as well.
1. Reference board.
If you as a client have very specific characteristic features all set and done for your character it can be very useful for the artist if you'd make them a reference board of art and photos that portray these things.
The artist does not wish for a life story of your cha

Schematics and layout to come soon!
Gaining access to the War Tardis docking station is a simple matter of telepathic thought to open the doors to the War Deck in the bowels of the Time Lord Citadel. The ships are docked in a stationary hover mode along a vast circular room that stretches upwards and downwards. Each layered docking station is a series of scaffolds that begin with a massive hexagonal door, and reach out in all directions to the floating war Tardis which is at the end of similar paths. Each War Tardis quietly humms and sits in splendid (temporal and space) anchor awaiting it's crew and troops. Each ship has been equipped with the proper land based and temporal based weaponry depending on the mission. As you look up you see the underside of other type 91 Tardises about 50 feet above you and 50 feet below you see the twisted tops of spires and menacing spikes of other War Tardises in their golden glory on the next deck levels.

AbominationFinally back to the journal for a little news about a project going to be released soon !Abomination1 year ago in Personal More Like This
During the past two years (yet starting in 2011), I've been working on illustrating a story by the renown and talented scriptwriter Bragi Schut.
If you have the chance to attend to San Diego's ComicCon at the end of the week (JULY 24-27), drop by and say Hi to Bragi, he'll be exhibiting the book in the small press area, F10.
Anyone interested in more details, please check out the following link of the amazon pre-order page :
For the art side precisely, soon, I'll be able to show some visuals, work in progress and development sketches that led to the finished book.
Artwork that illustrates the book have been produced from 2011 to 2013 using Photoshop.

Harmonia Pastelis 2 Icon set - Request Time!UPDATE: 1 Jan 2014. Yes, you still can request! :>Harmonia Pastelis 2 Icon set - Request Time!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm now working on my latest icon set, after a long months without iconwork.
It will be called Harmonia Pastelis 2 As the name implied, it will be the spiritual successor (well, nothing spritual here, actually) of my old icon set Harmonia Pastelis → http://raindropmemory.deviantart.com/art/Harmonia-Pastelis-Icon-Set-117562336 , one of my icon set that many people happened to like!
Below is the glance of some finished icons.
P.S. with my custom visual style (aka 'theme') for Windows 8 that I'm also working on - still in its baby stage though.
The old icon was created in 2009, when my style and skill is still simple. Many years have past and many things changed, my experiences, my skill and styl

Balance of LIfeThis may weird some people out, but I don't care. Life is about balance. Yin and Yang, Good and Evil, Light and Dark, Etc. Without balance there just isn't any way to make sense of our world. Without balance we would spiral into nothingness until we didn't even recognize ourselves. Balance is the key. Everything in moderation, my friends.Balance of LIfe3 years ago in Personal More Like This

A Tribute to Hans Ruedi GigerA Tribute to Hans Ruedi Giger1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
He was an artist you might not know.
But you’ve met his children…
It’s rare that a “new” iconic monster is born and becomes forever identifiable,—— no matter the variations, by generation after generation. So it was when George Romero created the ultimate “zombie” in his Night of the Living Dead in 1968. Zombie Apocalypse fans today may have never heard of George or seen the original “Night,” but the zombies they so love in fare like The Walking Dead owe their existence to Romero’s original vision.
In 1979, screenwriter Dan O’Bannon craft

52 Hertz Whale:
Is Anyone Out There?
Each year he makes his migration south from the Aleutian Islands to a breeding area in the Pacific Ocean parallel to Central California, looking for a mate. Unlike other blue and fin whales, his more than 6000 miles a year round-trip swim is a solitary one. He does not travel along with the blues or the fins, because he is neither. He is most probably either a hybrid blue
Constructive Criticism dos and don'ts.Okay, people. I know this is pretty rant like in nature, but I have some homework for you. Think about how and why you critique people. Ask yourself these questions:Constructive Criticism dos and don'ts.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. Is it because you have a genuine desire to help another artist succeed?
2. Do you enjoy measuring your e-dick?
3. Are you just looking for an excuse to argue with someone or belittle them?
4. Are you perhaps insecure about your own work and taking it out on someone else?
5. Is the person you are critiquing someone you know or admire for whom you have great respect for and hope to see growth in?
If you answered yes to questions 1-5, congratulations! You're a decent human being!
If you answered yes to any of the other questions, you might want to work on your motives a little bit, and perhaps, for the safety of others, invest in a ball gag.
There is, in fact, a right way to give constructive criticism. Critique is probably one of the most essential tools we have as artists. It allows us to get a fresh perspective on
