Copper, sterling silver, and sleeping beauty turquoise. 1 5/8" wide, and 2 1/4" diameter cuff. hand forged, fabricated, with a hook and clasp closure.
I was inspired by October being Domestic Violence Awareness month. Having waled a mile this summer in high-heels for Safehouse of Shelby County and domestic violence awareness, I wanted to create a piece that embodies the dream.
The shape of the cuff is reminiscent of Repunzel's tower, and also a restraint cuff used to enslave. But she managed to escape through the bars of the window while still in full bloom.
Tidal Sapphire: I'm not sure if I invented it, but I don't remember ever seeing anyone else ever offset a stone like this. The band was cuttlefish cast, and the stone is pear/teardrop shaped, both sapphires. The idea was to homage the Gulf waters and it's beaches. What do you think?
Eirene, Goddess of Tranquility: Sterling silver, shibuichi, copper, larimar, garnet cabochon, and faceted rubies.
This all hand carved pendant depicts Eirene, with larimar which symbolizes tranquility, and the garnets and rubies are reminders of passion and love. She was also an Hora for Spring, and the five leaved flowers are sakuras, or cherry blossoms. The patinas are from several Japanese recipes.
The patron who had me finish this asked that it be left off of a chain, so that she can wear it on either hand-dyed silks or leather.
