The Inherent Degeneracy of GamergateIn a world where unarmed, innocent people are murdered freely by authority figures, slavery is at an all-time high, someone opens fire on an American school almost every month and people die from inadequate, needlessly overpriced health care, some people think the biggest and most upsetting issue in our society is about video game opinions. The Inherent Degeneracy of Gamergate2 months ago in Personal More Like This
And, unfortunately, these people create a serious issue. Despite the fact that they rally around a fundamentally trivial and pointless cause, their furious and aimless harassment of others has become something worth talking about.
If you ask a Gamergater, they'll tell you that their fight is over "dishonesty in journalism." That's a pretty big fight. Journalistic bias has convinced Americans that climate change might not even be happening, that minorities commit more crime than whites and that we actually have any reason to be dropping bombs on the Middle East. Mainstream media is a clusterfuck of biases and sensationali-wait, what's that? Ga

Why Paint Missing Children?A little girl I knew was abducted. Why Paint Missing Children?11 months ago in Personal More Like This
I was very affected emotionally, and when I looked around my home town in the following days, I finally noticed all of the little fliers asking for help finding missing children. ( In America there are 1,500 missing child cases open every day. The fliers are often printed on the backs of coupons and are distributed as junk-mail.)
I just began saving the fliers, and after a year had a drawer full of them: Disposable mailers with tiny monochrome photos of missing children. It didn't seem right that these faces were so small and bland.
One night, out of nowhere, I was inspired to paint a full color portrait from one of the cards. As an artist, the question was this: How does a person paint a portrait of a missing child? I could not just approach it like an illustration. I could not just go about it as if it were a polite painting.
I began by putting away my brushes. They were too smooth. Too pretty. Too controllable. Instead, I began using palette knives

The Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers)Howdy friends,The Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
There has been an exciting development!
A couple of months ago, the folks at Chaosium Inc. [ http://www.chaosium.com/ ], the publishers of the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game, confirmed their desire to publish The Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers). When I received word I immediately began revising the now almost two-year-old text and illustrations to ensure that the print version is of the highest possible quality. I am currently about a third of the way through this process, and thought it would be good time to let you all know that the oft-requested dead tree edition of this story looks like it is actually becoming a reality.
I continue to be grateful for the encouragement of the folks around here, and I look forward to updating you all with any further news as it arrives.
In the meantime, I'm posting up the pages of The Statement of Randolph Carter (for beginning readers) I was working on when the word came through from Ch

No More Unauthorized ArtworkRegarding the debate of whether comic artists should continue selling unauthorized prints/sketches of characters they don't own, I think Bissette and his legal advisor are 100% correct. So from now on, I won't be doing any sketches or commissions at shows of any character that I don't own. Am I rolling over in fear of Marvel? Maybe, but as it states below, they're in their legal right to come after me if there's ever a dispute. I love to complain about the Big Two, but I can't (in good conscience) get upset at them if I'm breaking the rules myself. Being DC exclusive, maybe I can get a waiver that allows me to sketch DC characters, so I'll keep you updated. No More Unauthorized Artwork3 years ago in Personal More Like This

TransgenderSo ... yeah ... Finally ... Im here writting this <3Transgender2 years ago in Personal More Like This
First of all, I will explain a little all this .. whole process and how many times had thought of doing this ...
Before I birth, my father always wanted a boy in the family .. (at the end we were 3 girls) I been the first to born, so...my father had insisted on treating me like a boy, football ... cars ... I think the only Barbies I had were for my grandmother, even that I never got to play with them a while. Finally I grew up with these hobbies, especially football, and my behavior wasn't very feminine, in fact, I always was called "tomboy" and I ignored them...yes, I was in my "yupi" world you know x'D... and later it wasn't only football.. basketball too. I wasn't very good at school x'D
The fact is that at age 14, I lost my "father". Since I was little I was always very close to my grandparents and i live in his house since then, my parents and I have never been so close, my grandparents are my "parents" .. and .. when I lost
Details on the Cassandra Cain Black Bat outfitDon't mind this journal entry, I'm mainly typing this up to reference to when I upload some good photo's after Fan Expo on Saturday.Details on the Cassandra Cain Black Bat outfit3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My main references for Cass' Black Bat were from Red Robin 25 http://static.tumblr.com/yl0t4fw/j7Om0cetj/red_robin_25.jpg (Can we just have more stories of Cass and Tim working together please? You know... if DC ever actually BRINGS CASS BACK?) and Gates of Gotham.
I'm planning to do Cass' Batgirl outfit as well (I'm so excited!), but my sewing skills are really lacking, and so I wanted to practice by sewing Black Bat first (easier, in my opinion).
So here are some details on the costume:
I've actually been trying to grow my hair out, since I've always had it at shoulder length or shorter, so I decided against cutting my hair for this.
Also, I prefer using wigs whenever I cosplay.
I pretty much just bought a simple black wig, and cut and styled it.
At the moment, I have to restyle it, as I'm unsatisfied with how it looks. :/
Story of Putting on Kneesock and Limo Prank***WARNING: THIS IS A SUPER LONG AND DETAILED POST!***Story of Putting on Kneesock and Limo Prank4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I get a lot of questions on how waselreins and I did the body makeup for our demon sisters cosplays. So here I'll tell ya'll how we did it, in addition to the whole story about the limo entrance. With pictures!!
On Saturday morning, I woke up at 5 AM to get ready for Kneesock. The limo was going to pick us up at 12:45 PM and I had to help the others get ready so I woke up the earliest to do as much of myself as I could. After the necessary prepping (shower/wash face/brush teeth/moisturize) I put in my contacts and wig cap first.
I used Ben Nye MagiCake Aqua Paint in red for my face and ears. I was told afterwards it's pretty bad for your skin so next time I'm gunna use Kryolan or Mehron, but for Fanime Ben Nye worked perfectly fine for me. Here's a bit more info on it here: http://stageandtheatermakeup.com/bnmagiaq.htm
Instead of water to spray onto the red makeup I used LiquiSet and a foundation brush to apply it to my face.
2D + 3D CommissionsHello, you arrived at my Commisions page2D + 3D Commissions3 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you are interested in getting a CGI image created for you, please continue to the section you are interested in. There are three sections:
2D section covers all kind of colored, shaded images, preferably drawn with outlines.
3D works is about polygonal objects of all kinds, textured and with some post-processing for nice looks.
Vector images refer to things drawn with hard lines and occasional shading, such as blueprints and ink-like drawings.
I do all kinds of art and I'm opened to different styles (vector drawings of a Star Wars ship, 3D render of a Stargate vehicle, blueprint for a Dune tank and of course every kind of original universe objects and scenes) so don't be afraid to ask for anything that you can think of.
You can also check examples of my commisioned work and private gallery works on the bottom of this entry.
I am looking forward to working with you and seeing a happy finish
Please note that preferably I acc

Every once in awhile, I come across a picture that takes my breath away. My DeviantART page has been kinda bland recently, so I thought it would be cool to dedicate a section of it to feature these awesome pics. You'll find it under a section called Awesome Pic of the Day. It's much easier and quicker to post these, and I'll try to keep it updated daily or as close to it as I can get. If you think it's a good idea, let me know, and I'll keep it around. I'll archive the history of pictures in this journal entry.

5 Comic Book Truths (that I don't think are true)There are lots of tips, chestnuts, and other pieces of advice that I've heard over the years--tidbits of wisdom passed on from one generation to the next, from professional to professor to prospective student. Some of them are drawing tips, some of them are tricks to dealing with publishers, and some are general guidelines on how to survive in comics. Most of them are useful and true and will stand the test of time, but a few of them have become hackneyed platitudes and have gone unquestioned for too long. Here are 5 that I'm questioning...5 Comic Book Truths (that I don't think are true)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
1. READERS WILL ONLY LOOK AT A PANEL FOR 5 SECONDS, SO DON'T SWEAT IT TOO MUCH.
I understand the intention of this bit of wisdom, and I mostly agree with it: drawing great interiors is important, but at the same time, you don't want to get bogged down with small details that most readers won't even notice.
But here's my concern with this: if you treat every panel like it's disposable, then you're less likely to make an impact with reader

When I was about 13, I came home from school and saw my older sister on the computer. I asked her when Mom was going to be home cause I needed her to sign my folder for my teacher. My sister just shrugged and said.
'She's at the hospital.'
I stopped and asked my sister why she was there and I was told, ' She got sick or something and had to have surgery.' I freaked out. I wanted to go to the hospital, I wanted to make sure my mom was okay and my sister told me she would be back in two days and stop freaking out. HOW CAN I?! Well I spent those two days waiting for my mom, praying she was okay until she returned.
When the two days went by, I ran home and found my mom sitting in the living room looking worn out and sleepy and I rushed at her to hug her. She had blankets and ice packs on her chest and
Top 5 Mistakes (I've made over the years)To many people in comics, I only arrived a few years ago with Joe the Barbarian. Then came Hellblazer (completed in 2008 before I began working on Joe), American Vampire: SOTF, and finally Punk Rock Jesus. Once in a while someone will mention Off Road (an OGN I did with Oni back in 2004), but for the most part it seems like I've been published only these last few years when in fact I've been published professionally for a decade now.Top 5 Mistakes (I've made over the years)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This isn't a plea to have everyone go back through my previous work--in fact, I'm glad that a lot of the books I've done over the years aren't on readers' radars. I'm proud of it all, but the books above are a nice, tight group of titles to be associated with. They're all in a similar brand, they're all recent, they all have good creators/publishers associated with them, and the artwork is mostly consistent. Go back further than that, and you'll see artwork that looks nothing like the stuff I'm doing these days. (Although Off Road still holds up to some de

Religion is a Mental Disorder? And atheists wonder why they're the most distrusted group in America? It's crap like this, atheists!Religion is a Mental Disorder?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently, a YouTube atheist called Livelife8072 started a video series in which he explains how religion is a mental disorder. What's even more face-palmingly painful is that he openly admits at the beginning of his video that he's not a medical professional and that he's merely expressing his opinion--and yet he still expects us to take his "analysis" seriously!
And what does his non-expert medical "analysis" consist of? Well, other than providing anecdotal evidence, and starting every other line of dialogue with "I think" or "I believe", he compares people dancing and singing in church to mental patients in a insane asylum.
Clearly this man is en route to obtaining a Nobel Peace Prize!

The Three problems with how we learn art: pt.3I've been thinking about how and why we learn to draw for a few years now. I started self-analazing my own drawing and character design thought process when I began writing my first art instruction book, "Creating Characters with Personality". It was harder than I thought to verbalize how I've learned and how I process drawing. This has led me to start looking back at my artistic life and how I learned art. What made me learn the most? What drove me to draw and stick with it? What led to others I knew as a child to stop drawing? I think I'm ready to present some of those thoughts here on DA and hear what you think. This is part 2 of three in a series. I'm not sure where this is leading, but step one is my establishing an online art instruction school called Taught ByA PRO (http://www.taughtbyapro.com) that will (in phase one) concenThe Three problems with how we learn art: pt.31 year ago in Personal More Like This
