No man's a jester playing Shakespeare Round your throne room floor While the juggler's act is danced upon The crown that you once wore
And sooner or later Everybody's kingdom must end And I'm so afraid your courtiers Cannot be called best friends
And if my hands are stained forever And the altar should refuse me Would you let me in, would you let me in, would you let me in Should I cry sanctuary
The king is dead, the king is dead The king is dead, the king is dead Long live the king
Lyrics:- The King Must Die (Elton John - 1969)
At four in the afternoon heavy English casualties from previous attacks meant that the front line was shorter. The Normans could now attack from the side. The few housecarls that were left were forced to form a small circle round the English standard. The Normans attacked again and this time they broke through the shield wall and Harold along with two of his brothers were killed.
According to tradition, Harold was killed by an arrow in the eye, but it is unclear if the victim depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry is intended to be Harold. Whether he did, indeed, die in this manner or was killed by the sword, will never be known. Harold's first wife, Ealdgyth Swan-neck, was called to identify the body, which she did by some private mark known only to herself.
The next day Harold's mother, Gytha, sent a message to William of Normandy offering him the weight of the king's body in gold if he would allow her to bury it. He refused, declaring that Harold should be buried on the shore of the land which he sought to guard.
Okay, OKAY - so this isn't actual art!! I just had this idea, it made me laugh so i decided to spread the love and post it so everyone could have a good lol...whether or not you find it funny, well - i guess that depends on your political views, doesn't it?!
For the record, i consider myself to be (albeit a very moderate) socialist. I also hate Stalin and the USSR and everything it stood for...in other words, they DID do it wrong!!
I wanted to put this in a political/humourous category, but they didn't have one...
I come from a Christian family, and was raised going to church, but I didn't accept Jesus into my life until my late teens. I'm not going to pour out a sappy, heart-warming life story, but I want it out there that I would not be alive today if it weren't for Jesus.
This is not another religion. This is a choice I made deep in my dark soul that allowed Jesus to come in and fill me with light. I'm nowhere remotely near to perfect, and I don't claim to be good. I have simply been forgiven. That is the gift offered to all mankind by the sacrifice paid by Jesus Christ Over 2 thousand years ago. You don't have to do anything to earn salvation, you simply ask the Lord to firgive you and come into your heart.
Life won't magically get better, and you will still make mistakes-- that's just part of being this thing called human-- but God will be there to provide comfort, peace and guidance when you depend on him. And best of all, when that undefiable end comes, you get to stand in his holy presence instead of being separated forever.
It all boils down to a choice.
To God be the power, the glory, and the praise forever. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the best gift of all. Amen.
