a quick (and I do mean quick) sketch of my human GLaDOS. I made a few changes to her design, but not very many. I want to redo this picture and fix her eyes up and make her look more like how I imagine. Also fix her body some.... but oh well
So I'm slooowly trying to get back to draw some more... (I haven't been drawing for... 3 months now?) and it didn't start very well. When I almost had this one done my program crashed for some reasons (?) and half of the progress was gone. So I had to do everything a second time but with only half the patience, I just wanted it to be done.
So anyway, asked me months ago what I'd came up with for a GLaDOS cosplay design. I like it more than my first try, but I guess you can ignore the cables and stuff. I tried to make her look like the Caroline we can see on the Portrait in Portal 2 because of BLABLABLA [/SPOILER END] I'll probably update it, or scrap it, or I don't know.
I've been questioning myself many times if I can still go on and draw... life is a bitch, I can't find any time or patience... Anyway, I'm still going to get all the pictures done I promised to do, but after that?
Okay so I was partway into doing a humanized Wheatley when the idea of how to humanize PotatDOS and use my own humanized GLaDOS concept hit me.
So here it is. I rather thought the idea of sticking her in an oversized crappy T-shirt and worn-out sweatpants would be a nice contrast to the usual potato-sack or similar getups. The bandage is to indicate the red eye having been messed up and/or removed by Wheatley...I'm starting to think the red "aperture" eye I gave her relates to her control of the facility. I haven't made up my mind on that, I guess. But giving her some kind of bandage or eyepatch suited the situation she's in...sooo....there.
I lost track of how long it took to make it, less time than it was taking to do humanized Wheatley, for sure, though.
I realized after doing my concept of a humanized GLaDOS that I had been working off her Portal 2 form, rather than Portal 1's. I then realized it might be an interesting artistic challenge to see if I can make a Portal 1 variant of my humanization, and make it look like it could transition between the two games with only some cosmetic changes.
The fun part was figuring out how to make her look more like her first version - thus the gray and the personality Cores. The other thing I decided to try doing is suggesting that my humanized GLaDOS' long hair is grown out from the intervening time between Portal and Portal 2. A sort of computer Rip Van Winkle thing, I guess. So that meant I had to work out a short-haired variation of the personification's style. I really wanted to keep the duo-toned, "cover one eye" look, so that's why it's the way it is here.
I originally wanted to go with the style of my more literal GLaDOS humanization from a little while back, and put them on her back, but it just didn't want to work with this design. I then realized since her jacket looked a little military that making a pair of metal shoulderboards and sticking the Cores on those worked nicely enough. She's pretty authoritarian in Portal, anyways. >_>;;
I think all in all it worked out well, and looks believable for something that could transition into Portal 2. (I know I didn't show the bottom of her labcoat/smock, but basically I envision it and her legs looking the same.
Sorry for the sorta blah color on the background - I just could NOT pick a color that wouldn't clash with the Cores, her complexion, or her jacket.
