(Movie - Prometheus)
So I currently watched the 'scary and bad ass' movie which is Prometheus. I will start off by saying I am not a scary movie person. I am a total baby when it comes to gore and things getting possessed, eaten, morphed, etc. If you haven't seen the trailer and/or commercial for this movie, it creates this sound and atmosphere that scares the shit outta you. I finally had the courage to go to this movie with a friend and to my disbelief this movie was a total disaster. Nothing more than a failed attempt to a sci-fi movie. I have played video games more frightening than this (some being a JRPG!). I haven't watched many alien movies but im sure most include disgusting, gooey-looking fetuses popping out of some human. The scariest part, in my scardy-cat opinion, was when an 'alien' went into this guy's mouth and the guy dropped dead. So what.
Unless you have s $3 movie theater by your location, dont bother spending your (or your parents ) h

Longer term readers might recall back in the distant past..... the year 2011, my Cthulhu sculpture and several of my Lovecraftian illustrations were featured on the CW's TV series 'Supernatural'. Here you will find info and set photos, if you're interested: http://blog.nightserpent.com/2011/05/24/supernatural.aspx My art had never been utilized in that medium before, and it was a lot of fun to get to interact with showbiz folk. I'm happy to report that they wanted to use me again this year for the new season! The episode airs on April 27th (IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1995114/ ) and I would imagine as with last year that it will be available for streaming after it airs. The one catch is that we don't yet know how much of my art the camera will catch (last year it was quite visible), so I'll just ke

Here I be...After finally deciding to teach myself how to draw, I started a little more than a week ago to go through tutorials and guides online. And after one week, I have four sketches and a considerable amount of improvement. Here's to my favorite new hobby! Here I be...10 months ago in Personal More Like This
BLOGSPOTHey guys. Yea I haven't been around much, doing alot of drawing and learning! Not many 3d pieces for the next two years- going to be focusing way more on traditional and painting. Good news though, when I'm done with Art Center (or even the next two years of work) those traditional skills will help my 3D immensely, and I'll be able to create some epic environments...BLOGSPOT1 year ago in Personal More Like This
If you would like, I invite you to check my blog: http://fmacmanus.blogspot.com
I will be posting sketches and paintings on there, daily to weekly. The work will be crappy at first of course, but working till 2AM every day will make me improve pretty quickly. When I start at AC, I'll get another jump in skill...
Hope you guys are doing well. Peace out

Here's a sample of responses I've heard from some editors over the years when I've raised practical business concerns regarding comic book publishing:
"No, we don't know exactly what books you'll be doing, but we're (insert name of big publisher) Comics, so sign exclusive with us and not (insert name of competing publisher who has titles ready for you)!"
"This is a (insert name of big writer) book! I know he's late, but just think of how many people would love to be in your shoes!"
"The page rate isn't good, but at least you'll be getting to work with (name of big superhero whom you're supposed to be a fan of)!"
"We won't fly you out or put you into a hotel, but you should come so you can sign at the booth for us! Who doesn't love signing autographs?"
What do these statements have in common? They're emotional arguments made to sidestep yo

I swear to god half the people on the internet making "steampunk" things have a bag of gears and a Bedazzler (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amicrtFYgVQ_ and are just slapping them on.
It's not Steampunk if you glue gears to anything in random locations. That's just silly and unnecessary.

Templar progressionI always take progress shots of my work at regular intervals. In the case of 'Templar', which took a fair amount of time, this ended up with about 35 different shots. I thought I'd show about half of them here rather than have them sit about unseen.Templar progression1 year ago in Personal More Like This

They're a company out in Garden Grove, CA called SGX Media http://www.facebook.com/pages/SGX-Media/125016037569981 and they pretty much do everything from banners to books, business cards to posters.
The mass of their business is advertising, catalogs, promotional materials, but the owner is an old studio mate of mine who's not only an amazing designer, but also a great artist, a HUGE comic fan ( we met while in the portfolio review line at SDCC 15 years ago). He's currently doing printed material for myself and a large group of my professional comic buddies as well (i'd hate to name drop, but they are all here on dA ). We contribute to about 1% of their business probably, but he pours in the love like it's his only business.

5%If you're reading this now, it means you're roughly in the 5%. Most people who go online to read about comics will end up reading previews and "top 10" lists--subjects we all, or course, enjoy. But the articles/blogs that critically analyze our industry are usually only read by two types: people in the biz whom are affected by this stuff, and the few readers who are interested in reading more than word balloons when it comes to comics.5%2 years ago in Personal More Like This
And I'm not knocking people who don't care to read these articles. All readers are contributing to the industry with their buying power, and I'm thankful for them, even if they're not in the 5%. I admit, if I had a normal 9-5 job and a boss that was kicking my ass 5 days a week, I might not have the tolerance for these sorts of articles either.
That being said, I think we need more of these articles/blogs written from different points of view--more from creators especially. The 2010s will likely be r

Infinity Seven Takes On the Coming Zerg InvasionStarCraft II is the hot tournament videogame that just may breakthrough as the harbinger of the esports phenomenon and one of the great cultural game-changers of all time. Midnight in Anaheim. Caffeinated casters boom rapid fire commentary rattling the packed hall. Elite StarCraft players from around the globe execute complex strats that would have made Rommel the Desert Fox himself proud. 15,000 are in attendance, on the edge of their seats, and cheering as loudly as any soccer match as they watch the 30-foot screens hanging from the rafters. Another few hundred thousand are watching the streams live. The feeling is that of an NCAA Final Four game, set in a European soccer stadium, somehow shoehorned into a casino showroom in Las Vegas. It’s all of the skill, the fan devotion and the spectacle anyone could possibly ask for.Infinity Seven Takes On the Coming Zerg Invasion1 year ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
