Cesar Millan: Not What You Thought - And Alternative Training Tips!

Cesar Millan. There is much that can be said about the man. There are some good things, and yet there are plenty of bad things as well. Now, this article is not aimed to attack anyone here, I am not trying to anger anyone or spark up any kind of pointless debates, but I am writing this to hopefully make clear some of the things that the trainer does
Why do we have pets? What is it about your pet that makes you love it so much? Why do we have pets?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Writing out lists of pros and cons has made me realise that the "sensible" option is not to have pets. So what is that undefinable something that makes them such wonderful things to have?
I know that my dog eats a lot, I spend more money on his food than mine every month, same goes for all my birds (lovebirds, turkey, three chickens, two partridges, 20+ quail). He makes a huge mess every day that I have to tidy up. He sheds hair everywhere, he smells. He barks at everything. He pulls on the lead. He paws me in the face. He ignores me when I ask him to sit. The garden looks like I'm growing a bumper crop of poos, so I have to go and pick up all his poop every couple of days and it fills the bin and makes it stink. Sometimes he wees or poops on the carpet and I have to spend ages cleaning it up.
But he is soft, and has a beautiful head. It fills my heart with joy when I see him eat all his food and then go to sleep with a tubby tu

Here's a sample of responses I've heard from some editors over the years when I've raised practical business concerns regarding comic book publishing:
"No, we don't know exactly what books you'll be doing, but we're (insert name of big publisher) Comics, so sign exclusive with us and not (insert name of competing publisher who has titles ready for you)!"
"This is a (insert name of big writer) book! I know he's late, but just think of how many people would love to be in your shoes!"
"The page rate isn't good, but at least you'll be getting to work with (name of big superhero whom you're supposed to be a fan of)!"
"We won't fly you out or put you into a hotel, but you should come so you can sign at the booth for us! Who doesn't love signing autographs?"
What do these statements have in common? They're emotional arguments made to sidestep yo

Tip of the day: The darkest momentsThe moment to shine the brightest is in darkness. Darkness can bring chaos but with it comes opportunity. Many times throughout my career when I pushed past the point when I'd usually give up, this is when I end up achieving my biggest successes. Fate seems to have a way to test us and only the ones that want it the most shall receive the fruits of their labor.Tip of the day: The darkest moments3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Creative Criticism vs BashingAs a photographer, artist, writer or any other creative field, you are always trying to improve at what you do. We always seek out the advice of others to know what they think of our work and therefore knowing whether it's good or if it needs improvement. I'm going to let you guys know a little of how I got to the point where I'm at now. I have always delved into many different fields in the path of discovering what I wanted to do in life. In the path of discovery I first started off as a writer. I depended on the constructive criticism of my teachers to tell me whether my writing was good or if it needed improvement. My teachers always seemed to love my work and would always tell me that I could be a great writer if I stuck with it. In the end, I didn't stick with it. I dabbled with art for a while and always received praise from my fellow classmates for the pictures I drew, and I even sold the drawings I made in class for 25 cents each.. Lol But anyways, somewhere downCreative Criticism vs Bashing2 years ago in Personal More Like This

OBSERVATION #201 - Some thoughts I posted elsewhere which I wanted to also share with any interested parties here...
• ART PHILOSOPHY - TRUTH, and INTEGRITY - *as inspired by the insightful words of Rob Liefeld.
The Truth is that the artist, amateur and potential professional alike, may be taught according to the ideal. But no matter how hard you study, or how long you train... No matter all the knowledge you amass, the talent you possess, and the skills you hone, the subjective taste of the public presides over all commercial endeavor. The public, the layman, the viewer, the fan may kno

In Defense of InefficiencyI recently came across a wonderful series of blog posts by artist Jesse Hamm (http://sirspamdalot.deviantart.com/) discussing the work of Alex Toth. Widely (and correctly) regarded as one of the greatest comic artists of all time, Toth’s utter mastery of efficiency in line and form set him apart from the vast majority of other artists who are often seen as fussy or wasteful in comparison. Minimalism and efficiency are without a doubt incredibly vaIn Defense of Inefficiency6 months ago in Personal More Like This

Strawberry PastaWoke up early and I love making a really simple, yet delicious dish which is healthier than my bad habit of having cereals or pancakes. Plus, I am active person and I need an energetic "start of day".Strawberry Pasta2 years ago in Personal More Like This
When I say about italian pasta with strawberries and cream with sugar, most of my foreigner friends faces were expressing "yuck!" like it was a bad combination. It's rather popular in Poland.
I thought to share it
I love it not only for refreshing taste but it's very easy to make. I love tasting food and I'm sort of interested in culinaries but I hate cooking. I can't stand being kitchen. Also I'm lazy with making food but more in meaning... I don't like wasting time on it But that's how I am.
Simply it's pasta with crème fraîche (kind of sour cream)/or kefir/or natural yogurt, fresh chopped strawberries and with brown sugar.
Healthier alternative is brown rice instead of pasta.

The point is that how many, many times that phrase appears, in some form, im many, many artist's comments. Times after times. And well why not, it's a compliment.
People like different styles, no one can be master in everything. This why we like to look around and admire how other people do something. We admit it because we can't do it exactly the same.
The problem is if a person starts looking around too much, and finally becomes completely blind for their own style, and in worst case, quits art. Comparing self to others and trying to be EXACTLY like them is something that basically just kills something, be it your developing style, nerves or self-confidence.

Finnedyria CONTEST RESULTS!I have gone through all the entries and i have finally decided who I like the best and feel works the best into the world! I also wanted to choose entries that did not look to much like a finnedyr to begin with like bodyshape. THERE WERE Lots of amazing enteries! but could only be 4 winners! The criteria I wrote down at the beginning of the contest had a lot to do with why I choose the ones under and why I didnt choose others. I felt like the ones under really fit the criterias I added. I had many other favourites to, but I felt many of them looked to much like cats or dogs, which might be the reason why they did not get picked. BUt great work! fun to see so many people design creative things! I hope you keep the ones you made open for others who really loved them to make!Finnedyria CONTEST RESULTS!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

It is with great excitement that I have been able to hold a contest like this for the first time in years!
The hardest part was only being able to choose 3.
I would like to congratulate:
3rd Place - for their outstanding concept of Bones in a costume - :icondragontrap:
2nd Place - for their amazing effect and almost horror-movie-like concept of Bones being the monster - :icontriple-shot:
1st Place - for their intricate detail and ghastly take on Bones being very surreal - :iconM-Spencer:
Congratulations for the 3 placing winners!!!
BUT! It doesn't end just there.
As a token of my appreciation for ALL THE PARTICIPANTS, I would like to extend a special gift for all of your hard work and devotion!

Where I draw the line on soft mountingI have been asked numerous times by a multitude of people, "Will you soft mount this squirrel I got?" "will you soft mount this little 10 week old fox cub?" "will you soft mount my super rare bat-eared fox/serval/african civet/etc.?Where I draw the line on soft mounting1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Short answer? No. I Will not.
1. The small or baby animals.
I will not soft mount anything smaller than an adult skunk or opossum. Why? Because anything smaller will end up looking like nothing more than a stiff furry tube with legs shooting out, and I will not degrade my work to that.
As for the baby animals, especially fox pups, tiny coyote pups, baby skunks, baby raccoons, etc... I will only lifesize these or send them to be freeze-dried. These poor souls deserve better, especially after such an unfortunate early death. You also don't get these specimens very often, so it's best to preserve them in a way to make them last a long time.
2. Rare specimens
This one is a huge pet peeve for me. If you have, for example, a fox/coyote/opossum/raccoon/etc t

1. Write a freaking script! Don't get me wrong, I adore :iconKayFedewa: and The Blackblood Alliance. But Kay herself has admitted how much trouble she got herself into by starting the comic and not having a script. And when one of the top artists on DA admits to the pitfall, you had best sit up and take notice. It's called a graphic NOVEL, folks. And just because it has cute pictures doesn't mean you get to half-ass it. Considering how much work goes into making a graphic novel looks good, I am continually gobsmacked by the number of people who plunge into it without bothering with a contingency plan. You know exactly what the end result looks like. About ... oh, ten, twenty pages, maybe 30 if you're lucky. And then it ends, and you won't see updates for months and years. If ever. It's not often that I invoke prior planning prevents piss p
DA pointsAlright, I've seen this happening way too many times and I want to say something about it.DA points4 years ago in Personal More Like This
100 DA points is not not worth much.
You can buy 800 DA points for $10 USD.
800 divided by 10 is 80.
80 DA points = $1
100 DA points = $1.25
If you're offering commissions for 100 points, you're being paid $1.25. If you're offering 100 points for a prize on a contest, you're offering $1.25. I've even seen 50 points ($0.63) or 20 points ($0.25). I don't know how much it is in other currencies, but I can't imagine it's much.
I spend at least 3-5 hours on a painting. Minimum wage is $7.50 USD where I live. That is not even enough to live on if you're working full time, so I expect to make at least that much for every hour I spend on doing art for someone else. If 80 points is $1, and minimum wage is $7.50, then the minimum cost for a commission that only takes an hour is 600 points. When I open up my own commissions, I take sketches for $10 and paintings for $20+ Depending on how much time it takes,
