Litestep on Windows 7UPDATE(9/11/2011): lsdev.org is currently down which is a major bummer because it is a huge resource for the litestep community. from what i've read some kind folks are trying to find a new home for lsdev but i'm not really in contact with anyone so i don't know anything for certain, just what i read online. if you happen to be a new litestep user you picked a somewhat bad time to get into it =/Litestep on Windows 75 years ago in Personal More Like This

PE: Textured brushesThis article is an introduction to textured brushes in digital art painting. I'll cover making your own brushes as well as the use of textured brushes. You'll also find some great art and brush sets at the end of this article. This is my first time writing for projecteducate, so I hope you'll find this helpful!PE: Textured brushes2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Textured brush vs. texture
First of all, what is a textured brush? And why should you bother with it when you can just slap a nice texture over your painting to make it look more interesting?
Alright, let's start at the beginning. "Textured brush" is a brush created out of a texture, so basically a texture in brush-form. Whether it's made with help of a pre-existing image (see texture above) or some wild scribbling on your tablet (like the example brush above) doesn't matter. Texture + select + define brush = texture
How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win7A lot of people ask me how to make TrueTransparency play nice with Windows 7.How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win74 years ago in Personal More Like This
The short answer is: You can... well sort of.
Here are the general problems (I'm going to assume people with Win7 are on the 64-bit version, or Win7 x64).
1) Explorer windows are not skinned (or any 64-bit programs for that matter).
2) Explorer windows skin, but the toolbar is completely transparent.
First, you will need both TrueTransparency x86 and x64.
For your convenience, here is a zip with both (x64 can be hard to find): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7100381/TrueTransparency.zip
To skin all windows, you will need to run both the TrueTransparency.exe in the TrueTransparency x64 AND TrueTransparency x86 folders.
At this point, all windows should be skinned (with the exclusion of "special" windows like Google chrome, Command Prompt, GIMP/Photoshop, Task Manager, etc.
You may notice that the explorer toolbar is completely transparent. There are two workarounds for this.
One involves removing the too

This time, I'll explain with an example. Let's take this awesome emote by jahw.
When I see that emote, I'm imagining it saying "CHAAAARGE!" and running forward! So I want to make the emote do that, but instead of opening it up in Photoshop to animate (which I'm not allowed to do anyway since it's not my work), I'm just going to add a simple code that will do the animation for me! Hover over the emote below to see this magic in action!
How to draw hairHi Guys~ Your most hated Admin here. How to draw hair9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I saw a lot of drawings with great face, not so great hair. I think the problem is people think of hair in strings, not in shape and form. I found this wonderful tutorial from Proko about how to draw hair.
Hope this helps.

[MacType] New font smoother for windowsHeya folks,[MacType] New font smoother for windows3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't know about you, but I was always sick of the default windows font rendering, that's why I used GDI++ with Windows XP and GDIpp with Win7, until a few months ago GDIpp worked great, but then there where a lot of compatibility issues (Google Chrome/Firefox).
Now I found this http://www.mediafire.com/?8cnc6v7z7w4e647 on a chinese board http://bbs.themex.net/forumdisplay.php?f=88 (yeah yeah yeah, at least with google translate I could read something )
Works awesome and you can switch language, still a pretty shitty translation, but great tools to create configs and it runs as a service.
Check it out

text-shadow and box-shadow
Even though they're usually just used as subtle details, shadows can have a huge impact on the way a design looks and feels. Applied correctly, shadows can give objects depth, increase their visibility and accentuate certain elements. In this article, I'd like to introduce you to the way shadows can be used in CSS through the text-shadow and box-shadow properties, as well as showcasing many examples of them being applied.
The text-shadow property can be assigned to any HTML element (both inline and bl

Autocomplete for Mentions
We've just launched an addition to the Mentions feature that makes interaction easier than ever!
When using @ to Mention a deviant or Group, a list will now appear in a menu while you type that includes deviants and Groups you +Watch, deviants who have already commented in the conversation, as well as deviants who have the exact username that you have already typed in, if applicable. This addition makes conversation more dynamic than ever, as communication becomes even easier.
Please note that this feature is only available on places where the "Add Media" button is available (comments, deviation descriptions, Journals, etc.).

In six seconds, you'll hate me.
But in six months, you'll be a better writer.
From this point forward—at least for the next half year—you may not use "thought" verbs. These include: Thinks, Knows, Understands, Realizes, Believes, Wants, Remembers, Imagines, Desires, and a hundred others you love to use.
The list should also include: Loves and Hates.
And it should include: Is and Has, but we'll get to those later.
Until some time around Christmas, you can't write: Kenny wondered if Monica didn't like him going out at night…"
Instead, you'll have to Un-pack that to something like: "The
mornings after Kenny had stayed out, beyond the last bus, until he'd had to bum a ride or pay for a cab and got home to find Monica faking sleep, faking because she never slept that quiet, those mornings, she'd only put her own cup of coffee in the microwave. Never his."
Instead of characters knowing anything, you must now present the details that allow th

PE Prose Basics: Pacing ( and Show vs. Tell)Hello, everyone! As you all know, this week over at projecteducate is Prose Basics. We're here to help all you prose writers (whether flash fiction, short stories, or novels) get better at your craft with some basic tips for growth. Today, I'm going to be talking about something you've probably heard about again and again: pacing.PE Prose Basics: Pacing ( and Show vs. Tell)9 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
What is Pacing?
No, it's not what you do when you're stuck on a scene and need to get up and stretch those leg muscles to get your writing juices flowing. It's actually a very important ability that writers have to control the speed their story is read. You as the author get to manipulate the reader in a way and make the speed of the story match the scene. What better way to drop the reader right into the moment? But, pacing also holds the ability to make or break your story and keep or lose your reader's interest. This is why it's so important in writing.

Script for deviantART that gives 'extra badge'This is an old Stylish script for deviantART that probably many people already knows:Script for deviantART that gives 'extra badge'11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Is there a badge that you have always dreamed of but you can never get? Has someone designed a new badge that you would like to use (like a Pink Glitter Llama)?
There is one way to get that badge - but it is only visible at your own page and other deviantART users don't see it:
ginkgografix made in 2010 a script for Stylish that adds extra 'badge' to your collection. Stylish is a browser add-on for Firefox and Chrome.
If you have Stylish installed to your browser then read these instructions and add a new Stylish script:
If you have problems with Stylish this helps:

(omar is the guy who created the installer) litestep was built using the x86 architecture so a x86 system is a prerequisite, however people have managed to install and use litestep on x64 systems.
