Another brand new FOIL design that debuted on the Vulne Pro blog exclusively for about a week. This one, along with the Nal-Farbute, is one of my fav recent FOILs I have designed. Can't wait to do a full color of this beastie
This guy is another collaboration, of sorts, between myself and as Karl actually came up with the forward head design (the head apart from the housing cowl. It can pop out and forward). When I sent him an early WIP he asked, "Can I has doodle?" and I was, "Go for it". The result was the head design so I kept it pretty much unchanged.
The rest of the FOIL was my madness, again with the legs owing some cues from Karl's aesthetic sense wed with my own. This one has a lot of hex and perforated textures to imply the new materials common to 5th gen designs. A full color version will show up sometime in the future as I noted in my opening words.
More info about the FOIL's history in the TKP setting is on the original blog posting [link] I'll likely add some of that and new information when a color version drops.
This was a pencil illustration with digital ink clean up finish.
It's been a hectic week of doctors exams for my Father (he's still doing well but some issues we're working on) so there's delayed work pending. Until I can get to all that I figure it's now time to post a few of the line art pieces of some of the newer FOIL here on DA finally (they were exclusively on the blog for a time).
Here's the Strumgeist 5th gen EVO base line work. This was a pencil illustration with digital ink clean ups. Cell color version can be found here: [link]
Things seems to be settling down with my Father doing pretty well so now I can get to some backlog of work. This collaboration piece has been sitting on the back burner for sometime so it's nice to finally finish it.
Originally drawn by the ever talented (Charles Liu) I always loved this unique FOIL design of his. Back when he did this I said I'd do a color version, to which he agreed... unfortunately it kinda got shelved. In any event, now it's done and up it goes I did some minimal clean ups to the original illo in order to open it up for color, along with adding digital inks to pop it a bit, but otherwise it remains the design Charles created originally.
Here's the write up of the FOIL also found on 's original posting: [link]
The Dies-Gund N'vos Tessai CAV FOIL model was jointly developed and manufactured by the Indus based manufacturing corporate entities Dies and the Gund FOILArbeiten plant in the political bloc of Germane. A relatively recent model in the line of FOILs by this collaborative union of two manufacturers (much like the Jiendel Gavil FOILs), the 'Tessai' favors more aggressive pilots with its digitigrade stance and lack of shield. This N'vos Tessai, as shown here, is a stripped down model, thin on armor for extra speed and maneuverability.
This machine is tailored to its pilot, a skilled swordsman with a swift and graceful combat style. The thin armor is a weakness, to be sure, of this otherwise elegant CAV design but an effective FOIL operator can always exploit the advantages over inherent flaws. Even with the thinner armor a CAV FOIL in the hands of a capable pilot and faedi control entity is a dangerous and formidable opponent. The standard, off the factory body, has more armor plates and is a little less maneuverable but still an effective machine.

The first peek (with more pending) at one of the principal characters of Whispers of the Deep. This guy is a taedus use partner to one of the main human characters; a young woman named Veena. designed a second taedus (another character Divinus works with), to be posted in the future.
A TAEDUS or T.D.S. (Telepathic Defense System) is, essentially, a bio-mechanical (sendai) who's role is to be shield, combat, and investigations, augmentation for a human use partner. These human to sendai arrangements are typically called use systems, in which a human uses a sendai for specialized policer, military, or investigations work.
Some of these use system arrangements are one sided affairs with the human having the controlling influences over the sendai. More commonly it's an open two way mutual arrangement because most humans in dangerous lines of work (policer/investigations) value their skins preferring a reliable combat partner.
This taedus is manufactured by Ileman-Loch (also a manufacturer of Polemon combat FOILs) and is clearly a fifth gen design style. The device on his left arm is not a weapon, it's actually a high powered sensor array, as are the plates on his left leg and back. Taedus are typically extremely custom friendly combat frames so it's not uncommon to see a taedus modding itself frequently.
Divinus Tessko is actually his given name and not a model name. Like most sendai Divinus stands approximately 4 feet tall, give or take. Though sendai are small in size they're fiercely dangerous in combat so humans really have to use some form of sendai use system (usually taedus) to do policer work of any kind.
Recovering from an evil cold that kicked the crap outta me last week so this guy was actually planned to go up some time ago.
The Kharma Actura is another 5th gen creation of the collaborative efforts of Oshen and Dies. The result of their efforts continued to yield sleek and aggressive beasts such as the Kharma Actura. Aggressive lines with a minimalist approach. The efforts of Oshen and Dies resulted in some of the most refined and effective FOILs ever to grace the battlefields of Polemos. Unfortunately these faedai were of the last of the era of the FOILs as their time was approaching it's close.
The name Kharma Actura is the result of the growing influence of the sendai Hindai movement. Obviously with some connection to Hinduism of humanities ancient past the Hindai movement is something that began entirely with the sendai and with them the first pangs of the return of some form of tangible spiritualism in SOL begin.
On the design of this guy I have to cite as influencing aspects of it's look as I decided to mash up some visual cues between the two of us on a few of the current FOILs I had been working on. Obviously it's the legs with this fella that has some aspect of GP's touch though I did my own thing, as I always do, and what resulted was this There is a pretty epic Vulne/GP FOIL pending posting so stay tuned.

2012, so far, has been rather productive, I've been quietly studying new tools to work with and working on new material. The big thing is I'm returning to Zbrush in a significant way (expect to see some peeks of that work some time soon-ish... FOILs maybe? Mmmmmaybe) and trying to get work rolling I had to shelf due to events last year. You can expect to see a lot of new stuff so stay tuned
To kick things off for '2012 The Mayan UFOcolypse of un-time-en-ing... ing' we have a full paint of Harma Bhatra I had been dying to get to for some time.
The Harma Bhatra MJ-11a was developed by the Waimanu FOIL Works, the company also responsible for the dreaded Gottheitzerstorer FOILjaeger's of the wildly experimental 3rd generation of FOIL development (Waimanu is the company Karl :icongenocidalpengion: coined for his FOIL designs and derived aesthetics/design collabs). There are some clear visual cues that nod back to the Gottheitzerstorer. Though the Harma Bhatra is a very formidable Faedai combat frame it's nowhere near as massive as the Gottheitzerstorer was so the similarities have more to do with the manufacturer's distinct visual design cues than anything. Begining service toward the very end of the 4th gen period the Harma Bhatra might as well have been a 5th gen. Clear design cues point to what was to come in FOIL development; the covered limbs with equipment ports for customization, the appearance of enigmatic sensor equipment, the more streamlined aesthetics. The FOILs were changing before anyone, not in the know, knew why. Change was on the horizon as the sendai moved more, and more toward spiritual and political concerns, more freedoms. As such the Hindai movment (derived obviously from Hinduism in name and some core concepts but also having aspects of Buddhism and Taoism as well) spread and it's influence began to inform the naming conventions of the FOILs, Harma Bhatra is certainly an example of this.
It was cool to finally paint this beast because I knew it would really look ace in full color. It seemed doing the familiar military O.D. green would look great on this guy along with a hefty caking of dirt and dust to show it's been out there kicking ass for some time. The markings on this one are sparse with just the 40 r TAC number being identifiable (this machine is stationed in the Rience territory, the same Rience razed to the ground by a Gottheitzerstorer. Yes that is a biiig ass weapon, absurdly so... indeed I just wanted to draw a big ass cannon shettier for this one. The weapon would likely be fired from fixed positions with weapon mounts created to support the thing. To move from position to position the weapon would also employ an Icar field (anti-gravitic drive) in concert with the FOIL's field.
As I noted in the original line art postings for this thing...
the design was a very direct collaboration between and myself. Karl's original design I launched my new FOIL interpretation off can be seen here: [link] Full details of how I went about creating the new design can be found in the line art posting (see link above).
I felt it apt to post this one as a really hi-res image so click download for full view, the beastie be loaded with all kinds o textures, parkarization, and details. More work is coming in due time
