Starting on another Serenity campaignthe last campaign I tried running...didn't really take off. One of the lurkers threw in b.s with the site mods and players, and the game just fizzled into nothing. That was a year ago. I think. Time doesn't really register with me.Starting on another Serenity campaign1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Then I joined Serenity game and that one fizzled because the game master lost internet connection for six months due to living in the middle of nowhere. He just got it back, but lost interest in running the campaign.
I'm a crazy-in-love-with-Firefly-and-Serenity fan. You have nooooo idea. If I had the money I'd have my living room decorated in the Firefly and Serenity stuff. I'd actually put together a Browncoat costume for cosplay...and to wear it because I can. Make fake guns and gear. OMG the possibilities!!! Anyway, I'm tired of sitting on my butt waiting for someone to put a campaign together, but alas...nothing has come of it.
Instead, I'm putting together my own. Again.
Better Post-ProductionQuestion:Better Post-Production1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Hello Mickle.. i am very impressed with your work and love how your photos look like. If you find the time i would be so happy if you could take a look at my last few pics .. but mostly my studio work and tell me how to make them better in postproduction (PS). I use 2 lights in the studio, one softbox( for face) and one umbrella (for body) and on my camera a flash (Speedlight YN560) to activate the studio lights, or do you think i am on the right way ... i am using Canon EOS 600D. And again thanks so much for posting your work here !!!
Your best post-production actually begins in pre-production. You should know what a shot can look like in your head and have an understanding of how to get there before committing to taking the shot. Everything you do should be done with intent. It's there in the image because you wanted it there. Techniques were used because you wanted to use them. A happy accident is just that, an accident, they are unplanned and rare.

R.I.P., DavidI just learned that David LeBeck :iconphotoscot: passed away a few days ago.R.I.P., David1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've drawn inspiration from many artists from dA over the years, but I got quite a bit from David. We only knew each other online, and we haven't chatted in years, but he was helpful to me when I was getting ready to work with models. One thing I learned from him is that concepts don't have to be super complex to get good photography. My favorite series of his was "Chillin' with Betcee May", where all they did was talk for a few hours in a mostly empty room and take pictures.
My condolences to his loved ones.

I Have Strange DreamsNormally I can control (sort of) what happens in my dreams. I'm dreaming, just like anyone else does, but I can rewrite the plot if I don't like what's happening. I have to go through with the bad version first but then I replay the dream over and over until I get it right or until I wake up. It hasn't always been that way but it's become easier and easier to do as I got older. I don't know if it happens with all of my dreams but I know it happens a lot with the ones I can remember when I wake up. In a way it's like I'm just thinking while I'm asleep. Or at least part of my brain is still thinking. My brother has told me that's probably why I don't get much rest while I'm asleep.I Have Strange Dreams1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I don't think of myself as special because I think everyone can learn to control their dreams and I've read of people who are much better at it than I am. I think it's like everything else, it just takes practice.

conversation and perspectiveThrough the positive magic of the internet, I recently re-connected with a co-worker from long ago. We worked together on a design project, 25 to 27 years ago; the two of us have little in common in the way of background or culture, but we connected well in our professional lives. It may be 25 years since I've seen this fellow and we had lunch today.conversation and perspective1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Both of us have aged greatly, of course, although neither of us are particularly ancient. He is a few years younger than me. During lunch, he told me of his past three years, dealing with inoperable brain cancer, various treatments and trials. Difficult stuff. Although he couldn't do this at first, of course, he has accepted his condition with remarkable grace, enjoying his time with his family and truly living each day as if it is a gift. My complaints about daily life are quite trivial by comparison, and I hope to use the encounter, try to adopt my old friend's

FarewellHi dear followers,Farewell2 years ago in Personal More Like This
after a couple of months waiting and wandering about if I should stay here, post new stuff or whatsoever, I've come to a conclusion, I'm almost leaving.
·So I keep my account because it lets me see works by some fellows who didn't make the move yet to other great photo sites.
·So I remove all my stuff, you don't need it here anyway, much too devious.
On a personal note, I checked all the friends I made here, and I've seen something like 20% already made the same move in the last year, they either deactivate their account or remove all their deviations. I'm not the right one to wonder why, I already has my answer otherwise I would stay. I'm just sad to see the way dA is going push out good artists.
This website is not dying, it's just changing. I have my account for a very long time, where this website was really "devious", I've seen it change, for the worse. Now you have thousands of crappy "phone art" or stupid draws, made by hundred of kids who have no id
Nudes-A-PlentySome on this site don't seem to understand why there are so many nudes on this site. It's easy to dismiss this wonder as mostly GWCs ("Guys with Camera") or Fauxtographers using their gear to take advantage of naive young women, proliferating the Internet with horrible snapshots. While, I'll concede there is a fair amount of that happening, think the main reason for the glut of nude work on social media sites like DA is more practical.Nudes-A-Plenty11 months ago in Personal More Like This
I posit that the nude genres, specifically the art nudes, offers the most value than any other genres when it comes to shooting portrait photography. Here is why:
With the advent of social media, it's much easier to create buzz with a nude image than a non-nude one. Nudes draw more attention for a less talented Photographer
Whenever I get asked about why I don't shoot fashion work as much as I shoot nudes, I simply reply by stating that shooting fashion that's worth shooting usually means casting a team which I compare to herding cats. S

Tee-TotThe Man Who Taught Hank Williams How To Play Guitar: The Story of Rufus PayneTee-Tot1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It goes without saying that Hank Williams is a country music legend, but it would be entirely within reason to argue that he was also the single most influential artist in the history of the genre. But could it be that an African-American street musician was the genius behind The Drifting Cowboy?
There were no recordings made by Rufus Payne. However, Payne made his important mark on country music history by mentoring and teaching a young boy from the deep south how to play the guitar, and perhaps especially by teaching that boy to appreciate the hillbilly and blues musical influences from the surrounding regions.
Payne's nickname was "Tee-Tot" and everyone who knew him called him this in lieu of his namesake. The tag is a pun on "teetotaler." A homemade mixture of alcohol and tea that the musician carried with him nearly everywhere he went helped cement the nickname.

60th. Anniversary Of the Death of Hank Williams SrHank Williams: The Complete Website60th. Anniversary Of the Death of Hank Williams Sr1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Hank Williams body was returned to Montgomery on January 3rd. He laid in state at his mother's boarding house where thousands of mourners came to pay respects to the fallen star. His casket was adorned with guitar shaped arrangements made by local flower shops. Several days after the funeral Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe were passing through Montgomery and stopped to give their condolences to the Williams family. They signed the register which has since been lost.
The funeral was held on January 4th. Over 25,000 people came to Montgomery to pay their own tributes to Williams. It was the largest crowd to gather in Montgomery in it's history, a record that still holds true to this day. The site of the Funeral was the City Auditorium. A site where Hank had performed many times through out his career. Only 2,750 were able to get inside. The rest listened as the funeral was broadcast on a PA system outside in the streets and in Lister Hill P
Quick PSA: Don't download comics via iTunesUpdate: I sent a second refund request to Apple, and they finally pulled through. Surprisingly quickly, too. So at least there's a happy ending in here! I'd also like to note that since there are plenty of workarounds to iTunes DRM protection, I'm still going to use iTunes for getting a lot of my content and as my primary music player. It's not the program itself that irritates me, it's the legal "protections" that hinder the customer from actually using it.Quick PSA: Don't download comics via iTunes1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Don't have a lot of time to explain, but I found out that you can't read comics purchased via iTunes on PC. As one who owns zero Apple devices aside from an old iPod, and who only owns iTunes to sync and upload songs to that iPod, this is a huge annoyance.
Apple's blatant refusal time and time again to embrace a dynamic multiplatform method of distributing media is outright embarrassing. Can't play downloaded TV shows on another media player with better functionality and memory man
Since I've had seizures recently...There are over 30 different types of epileptic seizures. I've had epilepsy for 18 years now (diagnosed at age 11) and have experienced about a dozen different types. Many don't even have names; you know them when you see them or experience them. It can be scary, but sometimes I'm not even aware one occurred and just go on with what I was doing. Other times I'm completely or partially blind for several hours afterward, have a severe migraine that nothing seems to fix, sleep for 12-18 hours, or am really disoriented. Sometimes a combination of these. I've learned to live with it; it's a part of my life as much as breathing is.Since I've had seizures recently...1 year ago in Personal More Like This

VISION - by Lindel CaineVISION - by Lindel Caine1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Early morning in the Nepal Himalayas. With chill water from a mountain stream, a small girl has just washed her face and is now cleaning her teeth with ash from the family hearth. She looks into my eyes and I look into hers, ... so young, ... and I'm reminded how vulnerable and precious is the gift of sight.
"Although there are 147 ophthalmologists in Nepal, around half are located in the urban areas, despite the fact that more than 90% of Nepal's blind population lives in rural areas. The effects of blindness impact the country socially and economically and of the 125 people who become blind in Nepal each day, seven are children." - The Fred Hollows Foundation.
During my time working in the rural, mountain villages of Nepal, I would see children and adults, especially girls and women, with blindness such as you see in this photograph. Either one or both eyes were like this. I learnt from villagers that this loss of

My 9-year-old puppy, two days after she went through her second mastectomy. She was waiting to be cleaned before I put her surgical clothes. That was her third surgery regarding to cancer (and the last one, I hope).
That happened because I had no idea that if i sterilized her before her first or second heat, she would probably NEVER get cancer. Unfortunately it's not divulged in my country;there are no campaigns about it. Shame on that.
I just had my doggy spayed when she was already 7, after the vet detected a carcinogen nodule in her breast. Too late? I hope not.
Spay your female dogs and cats. IT'S A DEMONSTRATION OF LOVE.
From Wikipedia: (...)Female cats and dogs are about seven times less likely to develop mammary tumors if they are spayed before their first heat cycle.
