You need to download some required libraries in order for Litestep to run on
Windows. The libraries are called "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables"
otherwise known as vcredist.exe. What you will need are the 2005, 2005 SP1,
2008, 2008 SP1 to run properly (it is what the Litestep installer will be looking for)
If you currently develop with Microsoft Visual Studio (Express, Web Developer),
whichever version, your libraries should already be in place; though checking
for updates is a good idea. For good reason, I also recommend looking for
"Sec ATL" updates, they contain patches and fixes for possible security flaws within
Microsoft's code source.
I know it sounds funny, but you need to get the x86 (32-bit) and the x64 (64-bit)
installers for this reason: The Litestep program is by default, 32-bit architecture,
however the 64-bit update package (0.25 Alpha and greater) will be a patch after
you install Litestep. The 32-bit libra
Litestep on Windows 7UPDATE(9/11/2011): lsdev.org is currently down which is a major bummer because it is a huge resource for the litestep community. from what i've read some kind folks are trying to find a new home for lsdev but i'm not really in contact with anyone so i don't know anything for certain, just what i read online. if you happen to be a new litestep user you picked a somewhat bad time to get into it =/Litestep on Windows 75 years ago in Personal More Like This
UPDATE: this tutorial has gotten a lot of attention since i posted it 2 years ago.. so i decided to update the information, add information and even a nice video tutorial by andredk which is a little long, but very detailed. i updated the old journal and submitted a new one for good measure
installing litestep is not a big deal. it has dependencies like any other application, and without them it will error. assuming your system meets all the requirements right now you can stop reading this and install liteste

I've been asked to write a tutorial on skinning foobar2000, because many f2k users encounter difficulties modifying skins or simply using them. I'm not an expert on the subject, I've started by installing a few skins and trying to understand how that worked ; I still think it's the best way to get a good handle on it, though a long and sometimes frustrating way. I invite you to try and see by yourself, to keep in mind that errors come all along and to share any advice, question, difficulty or anything you want to say, may you be new or expert. I also recommend to read this good tutorial (though it's partly based on outdated PanelsUI), maybe this less developed one, some of the very useful Hydr

In this part, you'll learn the basics of foobar graphic coding. You may think "graphic coding" sounds like something serious and hard, but once you've learned it, it'll be as easy as writing a DA Journal.
This part will focus mainly on using CUI (ColumnsUI), PSS (Panel Stack Splitter) and ELP (ELPlaylist).

Medium - Tilt-shift effect on Photoshop.Hello, I'm back with tutorials, and for the first time it's about edition on Photoshop. The objective will be making a miniature looking picture (tilt-shift). I'd say the perfect photos for this effect are those taken from heights, like on top of a building or on top of a mountain or something similar. Nevertheless, you can experiment with other kids of pictures and then tell me or show me the results. I'm always interested on knowing more.Medium - Tilt-shift effect on Photoshop.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For this tutorial, I've chosen an archive photo from Paris, taken on top of the Arc de Triomphe, and showing La Défense in the background:
And after some basic edition on Lightroom 3.4 I get this:
I'll explain now how ot get the tilt-shift edition step by step:
1st - We open the picture on Photoshop, and we turn on the "fast mask" by clicking here:
2nd - With pencils at 2500 and strenght at 0%, we paint the area that we want to look unfocused to make the tilt-shift.
3rd - We turn off the fast mask mode, and deselect and invert the selection:
LITESTEP!I HAVE FOUND YOU AGAIN IN THIS 64-BIT JUNGLE!!!!!!!! Oh how content I am to have litestep working on Win7.LITESTEP!5 years ago in Personal More Like This
Turns out all you really need to do is install LOSI 0.45 (or whatev the recent one is...) and then drag and drop the executable and .dll file in the 0.25 alpha build into the litestep directory. THEN (this is what I think was causing my woes) you need to download a little .exe file called setshell64: http://lsp.litestep.info/index.php?page=index;item=145
Voila! LS is working super now . Although I miss the windows 7 superbar and the fancy desktop fade (although if you get jdesk-0.75, you still get changing desktops, just not with the fancy fade effect).
I'm just happy that LS is working. Ahhhhhh I haven't had this much fun in a looooong time .

A lot of awesome foobar2000 skins here in DA will let you switch between multiple panels. It means you can put many panels in the same place, on top of each other, and then assign a set of buttons to trigger which panel should be shown, whilst the rest of it remains hidden.

The art of Hajime Sorayama❦ Introduction,The art of Hajime Sorayama2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Hajime Sorayama is a Japanese illustrator, born in 1947. Known for his precisely detailed, erotic hand painted portrayals of women and feminine robots.
Hajime Sorayama is known world-wide for his imaginative and highly accomplished paintings of beautiful women. Using brush, pencil and acrylic paint, airbrushing only finishing details, he creates memorable images in a hyper-realistic style. He is often referred to as the contemporary Vargas by those familiar with his pin-up style works, and is respected by artists and illustrators for his perfect technique.
In retrospect, Sorayama's work has been remarkably prescient. Beginning in the 1970s and evolving into the 21st century, the futuristic aura of the robotic, mythic and fantastical figures in his art have always been ahead of their time.

Great Christian Thinkers: Ten Quotes About Christian Apologetics:
• Apologetics is not simply about reaching outside the church and helping people realize why Christianity makes so much sense. There are many people inside church congregations who are wrestling with apologetic questions; who come to faith but haven’t ...had all of their questions answered. I think the pastor, the preacher, needs to realize if they want their people to be good and minister to the faith, apologists and evangelists, they’ve got to be equipped. They’ve got to be reassured about their faith. They’ve got to be helped to be able to explain it and defend it in the secular marketplace. Now maybe many pastors and preachers say, ‘You know, I couldn’t do this.’ In which case, you need to bring somebody in who can. But there’s a real need for the local church to see this kind

Why credit and notify?Hi all,Why credit and notify?3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
It's your friendly neighborhood Photomanipulation and Stock & Resources CVs here, eager to tell you about a problem that has become increasingly common not only in the photomanipulation community, but also in other communities throughout dA. The problem is that people are neglecting to credit AND notify stock providers that they have used their materials.
What is the overall rule and guidance about crediting your stock?
If you want to use other people's resources (including but not limited to stock photographs, brushes, and presets), dA requires that you exactly follow the rules of usage that those individuals lay out in their license or stock rules. That invariably means that you must CREDIT them with a link to their homepage at least, and NOTIFY the providers by sending them a link to your deviation, preferrably by note. Some providers require a direct link to the exact image or resource t
Original Characters and FanartI've been seeing this topic appear more on my dash lately, so I'm pretty much just going to chip in my cents and say that I think it's nothing short of ridiculous when people complain about how their original work never gets attention and that people "only care" when they draw fanart.Original Characters and Fanart3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Newsflash: You're essentially complaining about the fact that people are getting more excited about an already established and widely recognized series with an already present fanbase instead of an "original" character that maybe appeared, what, only once or twice in your entire gallery.
A lot of artists try to pin the blame on other people for being attracted to fanart or make it seem as if others are just "too shallow to care about original OCs they just want to see fanart WAAAAHHHH" but if you've spent most of your time loading up your gallery with fanart of already existing series while only drawing your "origunul churruckter" once or twice with a small dash of "lol maybe i'll draw them again sometime
Rainmeter / Pileus Help, Set-up, & FAQSince I released the http://livinglightningrod.deviantart.com/art/P-I-L-E-U-S-Suite-148290753 (Pileus suite), many people have asked how to configure/edit/set up various parts. I am by no means an expert, and I'm sure there are a lot of smarter, better, more good-looking people who could answer these questions with brevity, wit, and savvy. I would recommend to all http://www.rainmeter.net/forum/index.php (the Rainmeter forums).Rainmeter / Pileus Help, Set-up, & FAQ5 years ago in Personal More Like This
But, if you're having trouble with getting Pileus to do what you want, I feel responsible to at least try to help. So the following are my attempts at answers to some common questions. Thanks for bearing with me, and I hope this helps someone!
First, some things you need to/might want to/possibly already know:
Rainmeter makes wide use of things called 'variables'. In the actual code, things like text size and color (which must be repeated a lot across all the skins) and personal info (like your computer's drive names, weather code, etc.) are easiest to ed
What Is Blackbox And Why Should I Get It?After taking a look at the screenshots displayed either in my gallery or in :iconblackboxdesktop: 's galleries, a lot of Deviants are asking me what is Blackbox and how (and why) should they use it. And it's a good thing they show interest, because after a period of hibernation, due to many factors (mostly developers dropping out) Blackbox is back with a vengeance. What Is Blackbox And Why Should I Get It?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, Blackbox is a shell for Windows or a window manager for Linux, the styles (themes) being interchangeable between the two platforms, something unique in computing. In this essay I will only talk about the Windows flavor, since it's much more flexible than its Linux counterpart.
What is a shell? Well, it's the dressing over a cake, the clothing over a body, the greenery covering a bush. Every operating system has a shell. The Windows' native shell is Explorer, which is not only a file browser, like most of you may think. Delete Explorer and Windows crash. It's a fine shell, especially in the case of Windows 7, but it's h
[Workshop] Laptop Status IndicatorWifi and Battery meters are a staple of laptop users and are incredibly easy to create.[Workshop] Laptop Status Indicator1 year ago in Personal More Like This
ImageCrop, ImageTint, and all of the other Image related features are a very useful feature of Rainmeter opening a whole new method of creating dynamic images. We're also going to use some neat tricks with DyanamicVariables, Substitution, and Conditional Statements to make the battery indicator change color and blink when the battery is low.
Below is our example skin.
Note: The big reason we're using ImageCrop instead of a Bar meter is that when using an Image with a Bar meter, the Image cannot be scaled.
We need to start by grabbing the image we're going to use.
It's grey because we're going to use ImageTint to change it's color in Rainmeter.
Lets start our code by setting up the basics and some Variables that we're going to use later on.
OrigHW is the original Height/Width of the image. We're using a 100x100 image so we only need to define one variable here.
Pixiv Fantasia VII [update!!][UPDATE 25/2]Pixiv Fantasia VII [update!!]2 years ago in Personal More Like This
arohaJ uploaded a teaser!!
IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN JOINING.
For those who aren't too sure what it is-
What is Pixiv Fantasia:
Pixiv Fantasia is a user-run fantasy-themed project organised on pixiv that happens yearly. It's run by arohaJ, and takes place over a period of around 8 weeks per event. Over these 8 weeks, pixiv users cram out art in possibly the greatest coordinated creative effort on the site ever and...well basically draw themselves silly. It's not just illustrations, either - people also create music and etc. for the project. Once the 8 weeks are over, though, it's over - no one or almost no one touches old content, so it's best to join early to make the most of the project.
There is no requirement to join, and there are actually a number of ways to participate (and more, if you can think of them). So yes that means no minimum art standard. It's a free-for-all.

What's Wrong With Praise? So this is another one of those artistic taboos we're never suppose to talk about, apparently. The idea of giving back positive feedback to an artist. It's seen as "coddling" as "babying" as "inflating the ego" and has such intense negative associations. It seems to be generally accepted that the only way to critique someone's work is to point out ONLY the negative parts. Any attempt to point out anything positive or something you liked about the work is seen as being unhelpful towards the artist's growth. What's Wrong With Praise?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
And frankly I think that's a bunch of hogwash.
Speaking from my own experience, I rarely ever get anything positive said about my work in a constructive way. I might get a lot of "good jobs" or people talking happily about my comics because they made them laugh, but I rarely if ever get any comments that go into detail explaining WHY I did something right. On the flip side, the amount of negative criticism and nitpicking is almost hilariously rampant, not just on my artwork but on th
