A Lesson in HistoryThursday afternoons always seemed to be the most stressful to Jack. So close to Friday-and by association, Saturday- and yet so far away. There was minimal homework to be done save for the consistent decree of generic studying, which seemed like a fruitless effort given the choice of scouring the small print of an out of date text book and playing Miko in a friendly rematch of Speed Demons II on the Gamestation. Gamestation always won out in the end. Unless something more interesting came about. Which was often. There never seemed to be a dull moment or a frame of time in which something interesting was not happening- be it an alien medic commandeering their science fair projects, an attack of small cannibalistic metal munchers from space, or an enemy sneaking into the base disguised as a beloved comrade from long ago the ultimate wolf in sheep's clothing!A Lesson in History4 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

Shards of glass, chunks of decimated concrete, and scraps of shredded metal litter the scene. Smoke spirals from deep craters scarring the once-perfect streets. Bright flashes of weaponry flare against the dark grey shadows cast by the fading sun, the staccato barrage of gunfire throbbing in the background.
All signs of success.
He stands, red and black armor glinting brilliantly in the harsh indigo glow emanating from the streams of pure energy leaking into the sky. His weapon, a menacing double-bladed sword, is clutched in his hand as his optics sweep the landscape spanning out below him. He nods in approval.
He smiles, his metallic face plates clicking to form the expression. He's vaguely aware of two mechs struggling on the ground beneath his perch, but ignores it, the only thought circling his mind being one of victory.
And then it all erupts.

It is midday, but the tunnels of the sewer system are dark and humid. Summer rains had filled the subterranean canals, and torrents of runoff rush beneath the outskirts of a city. At one of the system's points of convergence, where the canals combine into a single river, the passageways cease their dark journey and open into a large room, reverberating with the sounds of thundering water. Sunlight filters in through gratings in the ceiling like illuminated daggers. The labyrinth of channels roared with a ferocity that would easily sweep any unfortunate human to their doom; however, humans were not the sentient beings present.
Inaudible over the din, six metallic feet clank along the damp concrete and step into the light of the room. Three Transformers move forward in a horizontal line, shoulder to shoulder. On one side, a hulkin

Sideswipe lifted his optics to the skies. Hed been on the planet for only a couple of Earths months and those months had been busy. The Autobots had been constructing their base of operations in the hills outside Tranquility and, between the work put into the base, the work they did for the human government and the continuing search for wayward Decepticons, Sideswipe had been unable to take a minute to watch the skies since hed arrived.
The red mech stood alone in the field, away from the busy roads, away from the prying eyes of humans. His optics shone an otherworldly shade of blue, bright electrical light that pierced the darkness of the night. It was cold that night, but the temperature did not bother him; the chill was nothing compared the cold of space.
Sideswipe watched, optics flickering to every movement of light in the sky. Like others, hed followed Optimus Primes signal to this small, insignificant planet in a corner of t

Autobots by the dozens came, all bearing the marks of mournful contemplation. They heeded a call that was as silent as the grave, tugging at their sparks to draw them forth through the night. They came by creeping paces, their feet barely making a sound through the halls. Their optics glowed with only dim light, heads hung low, expressions grim. The only noise in corridors came from the hushed swish of pneumatic doors opening and closing as more Autobots heeded the call that summoned their sparks from recharge, drawing them from their berths to the place where they needed to be.
They came in a trickle- one by one. Slinking, shuffling figures wrapped in a cloak of silence. Some came in groups, their arms around each other for support. Work stations were abandoned by even the most diligent of bots, the call too strong to resist. The courtyards emptied of late-night walkers. From the nooks and crannies and the very bowels of the base came the bots who w

Would it really do any good if Megatron was here? What difference could it possibly make? Thundercracker asked.
Megatron has almost half our forces on earth fighting the Autobots, the other half is dead or out of communication range. As long as the Autobots arent initiating any attacks against us we should be putting all of our resources into finding new sources of energon to keep the sparklings alive. They bick and banter everyday,

I'm the one in control,
I'm the one in charge!
But Hothead likes to SHOUT otherwise,
And force me into recharge
Random just laughs and laughs,
Until he can't laugh anymore.
Then he grins that jack-o-lantern grin,
And stays forever mad like the lost Lenore.
Back to Hothead, I will say,
Never has there been a fiercer mind.
Fists flying, teeth grinding,
He's arrogant that we're the only of our kind.
What are we me you might ask,
And we shall inform you just that.
I'm Blitzwing, decepticon triple changer,

And though I don't sometimes know where my mind's at,
I have never been hazy,
To the quite common fact...

His armor looked as though it had been disintegrated in several places, mainly on his chest and arms; holes dissolved through in asymmetrical patterns with a sticky web of black residue from whatever entity had done the damage. Frayed wires and severed cables poked through in several places, occasionally giving off a spark of electricity as the engineer made slight movements. Broken fluid lines allowed energon to drip down his body - occasionally it would cause a short-circuit as it came into contact with an exposed live wire. Hydraulic fluid didn't seem to be spraying out of the main supply line to his left arm with nearly as much force as it had been, but it was hard to say whether that was a good sign or a bad sign. Truly, the indigenous lifeforms of this planet were convoluted, Starscream mused. Case in point, he considered the name they bestowed to the landmass he flew over. More than 75% of the surface was covered in ice, yet the fleshings called this place 'Greenland.' In fact, little green existed anywhere here. The Decepticon idly scanned for the color as he patrolled, compiling a ratio of occurrence between green and other colors present to pass his time. The results did not impress him.
As he circled toward the west coast, he strayed within a few miles of one of the humans scientific stations. The weather was clear as it had been on Starscream's other flybys and he wondered if the 'observation outpost' would 'observe' him. H

The desert sky was devoid of clouds, so the countless stars above were spread clearly over the silky black of the pre-dawn sky. Prowl stood under the stars' blinking scrutiny, feeling detached from the world with the all-encompassing expanse of sky and desert that stretched in all directions around him. His face was tilted up to meet the stars' knowing gaze. They seemed to say, 'You're just like us.' There were so many of them- billions, in fact- in just this quadrant of Beta Zen that it seemed overcrowded, and yet, each star was light years away from its nearest neighbour.
Prowl sighed quietly, the water vapour in his exhalation condensing into soft wisps of mist around his vents. This unexpectedly long stretch of peace had given Prowl enough time to afford a short drive from the Ark at the crack of dawn to watch the sunrise. He wasn't so sure what had prompted him to do it, but with each passing moment the reason seemed to make itself clearer to him.

June Darby couldn't believe her eyes. But that feeling terrifying as it was was pretty insignificant compared to how she felt now in the Autobots' base.
She and her son dismounted the motorcycle in question, and an awkward grin creased Jack's face as the bike Arcee abruptly began to shift into her bipedal form. The transition was smooth and almost instantaneous; June felt slightly relieved to see that her son's otherworldly friend was smiling when the astounding process was complete. Four more ridiculously tall robots were approaching

Well, she thought, their mission had been carried out and they were getting out, simple!

Arcee barely had time to duck as a turret above them scattered its lethal barrage right in their path. One of their group wasn't fast enough, his life disappearing in a cloud of shattered metal, spilt energon and a brief scream.
All that remained of him toppled over, energon spreading beneath him as his remains grew ashen in death.

At first, there was nothing but darkness. A black abyss of nothingness that seemed to spread on forever. The only sounds that could be heard were the soft buzzing of the electricity flowing through the stasis cuffs that held a blue and silver femme suspended ten feet from the ground and a soft groan that escaped a young teenager's lips from the blackened corner.
Suddenly, the room burst into a blinding white light as the snap of a switch illuminated the room.
