Art History Project: Magical RealismMagical Realism (or Magic Realism) is difficult to explain to those that have never read it, someone once told me that "it's something that you feel but can't really explain". Depending on who you ask you will hear a different interpretation of the genre, but that's part of the beauty behind it.Art History Project: Magical Realism3 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
Magical realism is a genre of literature (although it can appear in visual arts too) that originated in Latin America somewhere in the middle of the XX century with several stories that settled the bases for it, such as "El Reino de Este Mundo" (The Kingdom of this World) by Alejo Carpentier (1949) and "Pedro Páramo" by Juan Rulfo (1955), but "Cien Años de Soledad" (One Hundred Years of Solitude) by Gabriel García Márquez (1967) is considered the most important novel of magical realism.
Magical realism is unique in that it stretches reality without breaking it, masterfully walking the fine line between reality and fiction. The things that happen in magical realism are not ma

From mass migrations of multitudes to solitary quests into college, wandering to see new places and people is as necessary to healthy human nutrition as daily meals. We base the appeal of nations on how easy they are to enter or exit. We think in terms of our own “freedom” in how quickly we could “up and leave” on short notice. Hitting the road has always been its own reward, regardless the destination. It’s as if nothing really exists until we’ve traveled there and seen it with our own eyes. The path to and from is part of everywhere on Earth.
“The journey not the arrival matters.”
– T.S. Eliot

Most of the mazes in our gallery are of the outdoor garden variety. At least the “contestant” seeking escape from these mazes has the sun’s position to anchor their own movements. Indoor mazes are more difficult, with the addition of overlapping hallways, mirrored walls and ceilings and total darkness being possible components. Whose idea of “fun” was this, anyway?

The collective fan community sigh of relief that a female director has been chosen to bring the Amazonian Goddess to life on the big screen has been echoing across the web ever since Monday’s announcement that Michelle McClaren had won that coveted crown. He rarely shoots a “straight” portrait or a landscape or a still life. He uses mere reality as the first raw material of his photographs, which he then enjoys transforming into something more interesting.

Wednesday, July 17, 2013
When the bustle of tourists in Downtown San Diego is replaced by the flailing of fandoms, and the street signs around the Convention Center have changed from English to Dothraki (not Klingon, like past years), you know it’s time for San Diego Comic-Con 2013!
Wednesday the 17th kicked off this year’s Preview Night, and energy was high as this year’s Comic-Con sprang into motion with a flurry of activity. Many attendees treat the three-hour preview as a time to scan the showroom floor, mentally map places to hit on the later dates, and, of course, buy the must-have items that may be gone by Con’s end. There’s not a lot of cosplaying -- although there is some -- and vendors as

*****This is not a political or economic piece, so any comments relating to politics or economics will be hidden.*****
As a member of the internet, communist groups, and the Controversy Inc DA group, I get into a fair amount of arguments. I like to think that I present my arguments fluently and coherently, but I'm not ignorant enough to think I'm always right.
Everyone makes logical fallacies. Everyone. No exceptions.
Logic is not the natural state of the human mind, because we are creatures of emotion rather than rationality.
But, as someone who hates logical fallacies, especially when I make them, I'm making this guide so that they become less common.

Twins: “Old Souls” at Birth?
Look into the eyes of these photographed twins in this special gallery.
Twins always seem to possess an “old souls” essence in their characters, probably because of the several profound aspects of “twindom” that the rest of us will never have to contemplate, let alone live through on a daily basis. Can you imagine having an almost perfect mirror image of yourself, living alongside you every day? Some reflexive
