toy #2 in my endangered and ugly animals project, the babirusa! a kind of pig native to Indonesia, babirusa have an extra set of tusks that never stop growing. time willing, they will grow to almost a full circle. They're used mainly to lock together in combat to turn the opposing pig over, kind of like how stag beetles fight. For their impressive looks, the tusks are actually quite fragile, so fights are rare, and the tusks are more for show than function. Babirusa are mainly endangered due to habitat loss and being hunted for bushmeat.

the sculpture is about 4 1/2 inches tall, and 7 1/2 inches long.

made of sculpey, with detail paint in acrylics.

enjoy!

the project has gone in a bit of a different direction, my advisor wants me to work on deep sea fish toys (which i am TOTALLY fine with, i love them so much). so expect creepy fish in the near future. :)

HI everyone! Katsucon is the next show i will be doing, and i've made some fun new things to sell this year! All handmade toys and prints, all for you to enjoy!

some new things;

ONI OWLS! the word for owl in japanese is also the same word for luck, so lucky owls are common place in japanese gift shops. oni however are unlucky little ogres that play pranks on people. so when you mix the two together you get unlucky oni owls! they're about the size a quarter

MY LITTLE ONI; oni are ogres that show up a lot if japanese folklore. the cause mischief and bad luck, but you can be rid of them at setsubun, by throwing beans at them and yelling, "oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi!" which means, oni get out of my house, luck come in! (because everyone knows that all ogres are terrified of beans). Each oni comes with a little club, and some mini beans to throw at them. each one is about 2 inches tall, and can stand up

KAIJU!!!!!!! little monsters that can terrify a tiny city. each one has their own lame name, and they come with some tiny buildings for them to destroy.

FOXES; the kids these days, they love the foxes.

TINY BIRDS; i've made about 400 of these little guys, from chickens, to owls, to native north american birds that i see in my backwater woods. they're cute, accurate, and pretty versatile, make them into keychains, cellphone charms, christmas tree ornaments, etc.

come see me at the con! i've worked hard to make all these fun toys and prints for you all! buy them for you! buy them for your friends! buy them for your enemies! buy them for your grandpa!

i'll be in the artist alley, and SUPER ART FIGHT! my table is A1006

a project for art class, a painting based off of one of my favorite manga/movies, tekkonkinkreet

it was just something fun to draw, and to spend my afternoon with. i have no idea who these three are, they were just in my head.

watercolor + ink

here's the image i was thinking of when i drew this.

drawn last spring, i forgot all about this drawing. it was a project where we had to draw ourselves as animals, and not being the kind of person who's into furries, i drew myself as a deep sea isopod.... a nerdy deep sea isopod who plays katamari, wears glasses, and speaks some japanese.

i don't know what was more fun, drawing this, or seeing everyone's reaction, when they drew themselves as lions, or hawks, or some other logical animal. :B

ballpoint pen and markers

here's some lolisopods for you :XD:

Vinyl toys! These were some of the blank white ones you can buy. These are the first I've made, they're pretty fun. They take a while to paint and glue the extras on, but I may make more of these in the future.

The red robot has watch parts, marbles and some other hardware like washers and a thumbtack.

The blue monster has marbles, and thumbtacks as extras.

They were pretty fun to make. :)

A giant weta toy for my advanced studio project. One of many special toys to come of super endangered, fairly unattractive (though I personally love wetas) animals.

Giant wetas are primarily vegetarian crickets that live in New Zealand, that are not quite as big as this sculpture, but will take up most of the room on your hand. They don't have wings, and their main defense against predators is to kick them with their pointy back legs, or hop away. unfortunately, with both competition with and predation from invasive species and habitat loss, these prehistoric giants are critically endangered.

The point of my project was to try to bring about some awareness to critically endangered or functionally extinct animals that aren't cute.

People will always be bending over backwards to make sure pandas never go extinct because pandas are adorable and fluffy. Not that pandas aren't worth saving, but at this point, they're pretty much all inbred and retarded.

So throughout the next few months i'll be making special toys of fairly ugly unpopular critically endangered animals that would otherwise go largely unnoticed by the general population as they slip into extinction.

This is the final sculpture without antennae. sculpey clay, toothpicks and paint

battery not included.

:D

enjoy!

I will post these as they are made. Probably one every week until sometime in march.

EDIT-----------------
the peelander-z show was amazing as always! i gave these to the members, and they all were so excited! yellow was so happy with his, he took my picture with him and his little toy, then gave me a big hug. green thought his was food, and tried to eat a piece that broke off, until yellow freaked out and yelled at him. :D i fixed it for him, but the rest of the time yellow, pink and red made fun of him for trying to eat it. i'm so happy they liked them. yellow and and i both participated in the artfight which was a lot of fun. i'll post pictures and videos soon!

mini peelanders! from peelander z.
they were so much fun to make, i kinda want to keep them for me!

colored sculpey, and a few paint touch ups.

Big commission! I was to make 15 ugly murlocs from World of Warcraft. They were all very fun to make.

Each one stands about 3 inches tall, spines included.

Made from Sculpey, and each hand painted, and finished with varnish for extra durability.

:D

enjoy!
