National Suicide Prevention DayHi guys.National Suicide Prevention Day3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Um, I rarely post serious journals because, well, they aren't fun, but I feel the need to today.
Today is National Suicide Prevention Day...
Um. This day is really important to me, guys.
I have depression and what people say to me really effect me. I'm good at hiding it, but I've tried to commit suicide four times over the last four or five years, and committed self-harm as some form of release.
Take it from me, depression, suicide and self-harm are nasty things. Never, ever try suicide or self-harm. I still have faint scars on my thighs where I did it, and they'll probably always be there.
So... I just want to say that, no matter how happy a person looks, they could be hiding anything. Always treat people right. Tell people you love them before it's too late. Hug your friends, be close to your family, make peace with your enemies. You never know when it'll be too late, and if someone you know kills them self, it will tear you up. I've had to talk people

Bring your Type to Life
This may sound abstract at first, but to keep the theme as open as possible, I choose a rather abstract title. There are many directions in which you can go. You could choose an anthropomorphic direction, where you breathe life into letters and give them human or other animate characteristics. Another route would be to create the letters out of living objects, such as plants or animals.
Which direction you choose, maybe even a third or fourth one, does not matter. What matters is that your letters are brought to life!
What kind of letters you bring to life, words, glyphs or sentences, is 100% up to you. This contest has a more visual approach, so you will not be judged on the creativity of the meaning you choose to give to the letters. However, don't rush it! Even one letter can appear completely different than another. Be wise with the letters, word

EDIT: I ADDED NUMBER 3 IN CAUSE THAT WAS KIND OF AN IMPORTANT LESSON TOO. HAHA
Usually I am pretty quiet when it comes to the community and its dealings with drama . But I feel like I have to write my two cents about this topic.
A lot of people have been throwing around this post around about how art schools are terrible and are not worth it ya. I am sure you can find the article somewhere if you just google it . Though everyone is entitled to their own opinion I feel that I should talk about both sides of the coin when it comes to art school.
Now I have went to art school , and have done well for myself , I have worked internationally and worked for some big companies , and currently at the moment I actually teach at an art school as well.
SO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION: IS ART SCHOOL A WASTE OF TIME?
WELL THERE IS NO BLACK AND WHITE ANSWER
What I believe is that art school i

Harrison (Sarcastically): Well, if Bonnie says it then it has to be true.

Harrison: Hell, who doesn't?
Prosecutor: You laugh at the idea of kissing my client. Why?

DeviantART no longer supports Internet Explorer 8
The Internet is an ever-changing place, and the new capabilities made available in major browser releases allow developers (at deviantART and elsewhere online) to build faster, more stable and secure technology.
When you use an outdated browser to visit deviantART — or any other site — the site doesn't always work as intended. We stop accepting bug reports for those browsers over time, as it's time consuming for our developers and hinders the advancement of the site as a whole.
For some time now, Internet Explorer 8 has made up a very small portion of traffic, yet contributed disproportionately to bug reports. With this in mind, we are henceforth dropping support for it.
We strongly encourage that you always use the latest version of your favorite browser, to ensure that you can see all the Web has to offer.

I thought that it would be a good time to share some resources on how to tell whether or not you are bisexual, how to come to terms with your orientation, and how to share it with your friends and family. Please, if you have any more links or personal opinions, feel free to share!
Please note that most of these resources are targeted toward women. Of course, they can be applied to any gender identity, but if you know of any resources targeted toward men, make sure to share them with us!

Dynasty Young, now 17, "was subjected to relentless, severe harassment and abuse by other students because he was perceived as gay and because his clothing, behavior, and demeanor did not fit stereotypical notions of masculinity" during the 2011-2012 school year at Arsenal Technical High School, says the complaint, filed today in U.S. District Court in Indiana. Young and his mother, Chelisa Grimes, also a plaintiff in the suit, are represented by the National Center for Lesbian Rights and two law firms, Kirkland & Ellis and Waples & Hanger.
Young enrolled in Arsenal Tech at the beginning of that academic year as a junior, having relocated from Arizona, where he had enjoyed going to school and encountered few problems because of his gender nonconformity, and those few problems were dealt with swiftly. H

Hey, you watching me
Well, what do you see?
Something you want
or something else you just want to see?
I'm not here for you to stare
so would you cut it out
I may be the last thing you see
So be aware
You want me to do all your things
And what do I get? Nothing from you
You are all the same, you promise to change
But still nothing happens
You don't take the blame or the pain
That is something I should do
Well, I got something waiting for you
No, I can't take this anymore
You just make me feel like a dog
You don't listen to me no more
You just want to see me crawl
You're waiting for me to break
That is something that I won't take
I won't take this anymore
I hope you would just die
Top 5 Mistakes (I've made over the years)To many people in comics, I only arrived a few years ago with Joe the Barbarian. Then came Hellblazer (completed in 2008 before I began working on Joe), American Vampire: SOTF, and finally Punk Rock Jesus. Once in a while someone will mention Off Road (an OGN I did with Oni back in 2004), but for the most part it seems like I've been published only these last few years when in fact I've been published professionally for a decade now.Top 5 Mistakes (I've made over the years)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This isn't a plea to have everyone go back through my previous work--in fact, I'm glad that a lot of the books I've done over the years aren't on readers' radars. I'm proud of it all, but the books above are a nice, tight group of titles to be associated with. They're all in a similar brand, they're all recent, they all have good creators/publishers associated with them, and the artwork is mostly consistent. Go back further than that, and you'll see artwork that looks nothing like the stuff I'm doing these days. (Although Off Road still holds up to some de

There are so many people out there that if you are willing to stand up and tell your story will think that you are the bravest and strongest person on earth.
So my challenge to you is to keep it up. Keep posting your stories keep going to your schools because people care and people no matter how discreetly will think that you are strong and that you are brave. Please keep trying. Never, ever, give up.

Rise From the Dead
“Where are tonight the sword and its swinger, the holy spells and their singer? Where is the light to scatter the ghosts, the sight of dawn to shatter the frost? Fears can be hidden, and hearts’ fire kindled, but will shadows be caged and demons faced? The curses of liches linger like winds of winter, and wolves howl a hymn for the undead's hunt… who will be safe from the grim reaper’s swing, and who will fall in its grip?”

Slogans + books + ex-gay therapyThere is stuff in this that could be offensive to anyone religious. If anyone is really upset, I'm happy to delete. So, I was trying to title a sadly never-to-be finished poem today, and I came up with two titles that turned out to sound kind of like slogans.
"Do Your Part To Save Some Lives and Stop Thumping Bibles" (from the song Do Your Part To Save the Scene and Stop Going To Shows by Fall Out Boy)
"Gay Is Not a Synonym For Shitty and Christian Shouldn't Be a Synonym For Ignorant"
Anybody have plays on song titles, or just catchy sounding phrases that they'd like to share?
Also, I recently read the book Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan (sp?) and John Green, and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys teen literature. It's about two boys named Will Grayson (one of whom is gay) and the shenanigans that ensue when they meet.
Finally, there is a bill in California looki

Did the Occupy Movement Actually Happen?by Randy Shaw‚ Sep. 04‚ 2013Did the Occupy Movement Actually Happen?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In the fall of 2011, millions of Americans were drawn to a movement directly challenging dramatically rising income inequality. The Occupy Movement dominated public discourse and put economic unfairness at the center of policy debates. Yet only two years after Occupy began on Wall Street, efforts to redress still worsening income inequality have stalled. The national grassroots campaign to get House Republicans to enact immigration reform has not been matched by similar efforts to raise the minimum wage or end corporate tax loopholes, with advocacy for such policies no stronger today than before Occupy’s emergence. We even face the prospect of President Obama selecting Lawrence Summers, a longtime backer of the 1%, as the new head of the Federal Reserve. Are activists preoccupied with other issues, or have people decided that challenging the power of the 1% is not a winnable political fight?
This past weekend I came across two documentarie

By Linda Lye, Staff Attorney, ACLU of Northern California at 10:23am
Just shy of the one-year anniversary of the inaugural Occupy Wall Street protests, the ACLU of Northern California obtained initial documents from the FBI about surveillance of Occupy demonstrations in the region (see the FBI’s response here).
The documents came after an ACLU-NC lawsuit filed after the FBI refused to release any documents in a Freedom of Information Act request. The documents are significant for two reasons:
First, they finally confirm what until now have only been suspicions that the FBI was conducting surveillance of the Occupy movement.
Second, the FBI is refusing to hand over documents "in the interest of national defense or foreign policy." In other words, to the FBI, political protests about economic policy pose an unspecified threat to national security.
The FBI has a troubling hist
Bullying.Last year, my bestfriend was in 7th grade. He had a lot of friends, and people respected him, liked him.Bullying.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Then he came out as gay.
His friends basically disowned him, refused to look at him or speak to him. Within days of telling only a few people, the whole school became aware that he was gay.
It started as a few snickers from random people, or people passing by him muttering "faggot." Soon it developed into way worse problems. People started assuming that every guy my bestfriend looked at, he thought was hot. Every single guy was repulsed by him, and his actual crush (who was his friend before he came out) rejected him over and over, and embarrassed him. At lunch, he sat with the people who hated him the least, but people would still kick him from under the table.
Every single day, he was told he was worth nothing, he should be raped and killed, abused, etc. He couldn't go into the locker rooms to change for gym, or he would most likely have been beaten up. People he didn't even know

How to draw during 365 daysHow to draw during 365 days4 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
By the beginning of 2014 I started this account and uploaded a doodle a day during a year. It was the most challenging thing I ever did and it helped me loads on improving my art.
I've seen a lot of mentions on my inbox about artists that are starting their own 365 Days challenge and I want to write this journal to share what I've learned through my experience and maybe encourage some of you to join this long term journey.
It's okay to start simple!
My first doodles were waaay more simple than the other ones. If I had to start the project again I would still do them simple. Of course, starting this challenge is very exciting but it's a dead end if you put a heavy load on yourself at the beginning!
Focus on knowing your pace first. How much time does it take you to finish your drawings?
