Political/religious/philosophical conformismWhat's with people who define their political, religious, or moral views based on what someone else believes? For example, a lot of religious people run their own lives, and all too often other people's, based on what their sacred texts ordain. They think anything Jesus, Muhammad, or what have you abhorred is something they should abhor themselves without critically evaluating it. You see the same pattern in a lot of political ideologues; they even name their ideologies after their political idols, be they Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, or Thomas Jefferson. That I find especially annoying, because when you name your political or philosophical theory after someone else, the name tells me less about WHAT you believe than WHOM you're getting your beliefs from.Political/religious/philosophical conformism4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have no problem with admiring certain individuals or seeing them as inspirational, but I don't like it when people try to align their opinions with others' just because those others are popular or famous. Everyone is flawed, even the

I always knew you were like that
A player, a cheater, a stealer
Taking girls hearts and tearing them apart
You would think I'm sad but I'm not
It's your own loss, not mine
The truth set me free from your cobweb of misery
Trying to get all the blood out of me
Ha! Try all you want boy but I don't bleed like the rest
Feelings for you are all gone
The nice boy I once knew was only wearing a mask
You're full of shit, treating me like trash.
But I guess that's how we learn isn't it
How you have to be pushed around
To find out that inside you are much stronger than they think
You get up and you fight back, this time I'm on the right track
I warned you not to mess with me
But you're so good at ignoring me
That when I hit you with all these words
It really took you by surprise didn't it?
You didn't think I had it in me, did you?
I'm not afraid of you anymore,
The way I used to be before
Back then when I'd see you I'd get butterflies
Now all I see are li
The Fairy Tale, A Lifelong ResonanceA thousand years tradition of scaring children at bedtime continues for children of all ages. News of the discovery of 500 “new” fairy tales collected over 150 years ago [link] in Germany and locked away in a forgotten archive has me thinking about the enduring importance of these narrative treasures in the lives of human societies worldwide. My worry, have fairy tales been marginalized by modernism? The Fairy Tale, A Lifelong Resonance3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This

Gary Webb and the Iran-ContrasI posted on this before. It's an article on the Iran-Contras and Gary Webb, pulitzer prize winning journalist who committed 'suicide' by shooting himself twice in the head.Gary Webb and the Iran-Contras10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Eighteen years after it was published, “Dark Alliance,” the San Jose Mercury News’s bombshell investigation into links between the cocaine trade, Nicaragua’s Contra rebels, and African American neighborhoods in California, remains one of the most explosive and controversial exposés in American journalism.
Secular Humanism for the winSo I just got back from the Östergötland regional meeting of the Secular Humanist organization. It was a very rewarding experience... it was very enlightening, learning about the philosophy- I think I finally found a philosophy with which I identify.Secular Humanism for the win3 years ago in Personal More Like This
We were about forty or so people meeting up, and the president of the association, Christer Sturmark, (who is a minor celebrity) held a very interesting lecture on humanism, religion and society. I've never felt prouder to be an atheist; being among likeminded, intellectual people was plain uplifting. I am joining, without a doubt.
...and in other news, while the people here on DA do not seem to consider me too much of a strident, aggessive atheist, my atheist family does. Oy vey, the lack of self awareness that an Aspie must endure...
Conspiracy Theory To Those Who Mock ConspiraciesI am glad mainstream media, thinkprogress, left wing nutballs, neocons, and the rest of the pragmatic science thumper community showed their true colors as to what 'good conspiracy theory' is.Conspiracy Theory To Those Who Mock Conspiracies5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Vladimir putin goes 'missing' for a few days which leads to the general public (who mock conspiracies) to begin speculating on where Vlad wen't.
It's super juicy, and filled with CIA agents, COINTELL PRO, Space Aliens, Government coverups, and TMZ.
These are the 'conspiracies' of the general dumbed down public who thump science text books and brag about how "SCIENCE!" and pragmatic they are. They think all peer reviewed journals are 100% accurate "SCIENCE!" and that BigPharma does not cover up corruption,
They think government conspiracies are "to ridiculous for to many people would be in on it" but Vladimir Putin goes "missing" for a few days and suddenly they turn into "conspiracy theorists"
Where is Vladimir Putin? What we know about the Russian president's "disappearance."

I went and saw Dita Von Teese's show last night and it was the most incredible and beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life. If she comes to your town, GO. Don't hesitate because of ticket prices (which are reasonable, in my book), and JUST. FUCKING. GO. It's worth every cent. I might write more about the show itself when I have more time, but really I'm just updating this journal to a) get the old one off my profile and b) tell you a brief synopsis of how I got a print to Dita.
So, I was going to give her this drawing, but I ended up selling the original for the price of a ticket to her show because I would have been too depressed knowing that I'd missed possibly my only chance to see her perform live. I still wanted her to have art from me, but since it was the only drawing of her that I had in my possession I ended up having to make a print of it in lieu of giving her an orig

Now it's just painful
I used to fly in my sleep
Now I toss and turn
I used to stand up straigth
Now I curl up and cry
I used to think this was heaven
Now I think this is hell
I used to smile back at him
Now I am being ignored
I used to be seen
Now I am invisible
I used to walk to the playground
Now I walk to the graveyard
I used to see the star lights
Now I only see city lights
I used to be free and happy
Now I am lost inside
I used to be that little girl
Now they like to call me an adult

#S17 ART: What is it good for?I don’t know if everyone is aware of it but DeviantART have been petitioning ICANN so they can manage the domain dotART. I signed and endorsed their application not because someone should control the domain but more because it is going to be assigned to some group or other and if that’s so then DeviantART seem the best candidate for the job. Last thi

The United States has been funding and operating Al Qaeda for years — When the majority of Americans are approached with such a revelation, it is viewed as 'nonsensical conspiracy theory.’ An immediate response would be “if that were true the mainstream media would report on it and everyone would be aware of this!" - What those people don’t understand is .. That is not how the world works. 90% of all media you see from television is owned by 6 corporations.
Six. Radio is for the most part — not much better, although there is many independent radio stations broadcasting a more honest rendition of world events. You could call radio and the internet (which in many ways have merged) the last frontier of information which is why we see trade agreements like the
