Occupying the 6th position in the Chinese Zodiac, the Snake symbolizes such character traits as intelligence, gracefulness and materialism. When it comes to decision-making, Snakes are extremely analytical and as a result, they don’t jump into situations. They are effective at getting the things they want, even if it means they have to scheme and plot along the way.

The month of April is the month of the Snake. This bento contains:

Top Bowl: Lotus Seed Soup, Dessert

Face Layer: Shrimp Fried Rice, Nori, Wasabi Sesame

Kimono Layer: 2 Fish Fillet, Broccoli, Pear Slices, Cherry Tomato

Happy New Year Everyone! I decided I wanted my first deviation of 2011 to be a New Years Bento. But not only did I want to pay homage to the American New Year's celebration, I also thought it would be proper to also celebrate the Chinese New Year!
In America Champagne and Strawberries are a classic New Year treat. And during the Chinese New Year money is given to children. This year is also the year of the Rabbit so I thought I should mention that in my bento. The contents of this bento:

American New Year Side:
Champagne - Colby Cheese
Strawberry - Home Made Chocolate Covered Strawberry (by myself)
2011 - Nori
Background - Rice with 3 Sesame (Kuro, Shiiro, Garlic!)

Chinese New Year Side:
Year of the Rabbit - Rice ball with Colby Ears, Crab and Nori Eyes, Black Sesame Eyelashes, Nori mouth and nose, Ketchup cheeks
New Years Money - Colby Cheese, Crab String
Peaches of Longevity - Cherry Tomato, Cilantro Leaves
Base - Spaghetti with Ketchup and Pesto, Broccoli with Butter

I recently decided to get a bento book with my Christmas money and, eager to try out some of their recipes, got inspired to make this bento. The book is called Yum-Yum Bento Box and gave me the instructions for the Rabbit and Spaghetti, which I of course doctored up to match what I wanted and needed. It's a great book and I hope to get more so I can do some really awesome bento in the future!

I hope everyone's new year is filled with good food and creativity! Good Luck in the Kitchen~!
