The whole time I kept thinking about something a very popular concept artist on DA said and how much it made me mad at the time and how much angrier it made me while i was spending time in Japan. I'm paraphrasing here, but he basically said that Anime was the downfall of young western artists and that there weren't any good anime anyway except one or two- but he admitted that he didn't really watch anime at all and hadn't seen much... all based on the fact that he couldn't find good art that inspired him, a professional artist with amazing talent, on a site that is mostly filled with amateur and young artists from around the world.

The moral of the story is that I should stop wearing clothing a teenager might wear because as I continue to get older and not to age it will become more and more unbelievable that I am as old as I say I am and I don't look forward to being driven in the back of a police car to the nearest high school, in tears BECAUSE I HAVE ALREADY DONE MY TIME!

In the first season of Friendship is Magic, an animation mistake rendered a background pony with "derpy" eyes. The producers thought it was cute and left it in, occasionally sticking the pony in various scenes. While many people liked calling her Ditzy Doo (based on a remark made in Winter Round Up), the general internet population started calling her Derpy Hooves. Like I mentioned in my 5 year anniversary picture... I never expected RD to get this popular. It truly started as a silly comic about pokemon I planned to train in my pearl game. I loved it.
The FiM team is amazing, and I am consistently impressed with the work they do on each episode.
I marvel at the believability they breathe into the world and the characters. From the writing to the music to the animation. Each component is seriously and thoughtfully composed... The emotions of the characters feel genuine, and because the characters take themselves seriously, the viewers connect with them.
Cartoons/animations/comics have immense power... and it makes me so happy to see a cartoon that finally takes that power seriously. Most people dismiss the idea of cartoons being serious, and that is a tragic mistake... Cartoons are symbolic in their expression, and the more "simple" they are, the more symbolic they may become. My Little Pony is the perfect example of this. The designs are simple, but the symbolism is rich with meaning and substance (because the creators care). This is why it is a good show.

Some argue that since they can't be dressed up, they aren't proper bases. But a base is a vague term to begin with.
Why do so many people make bases? What's the allure? Many people just start doodling and end up with a body they don't plan on finishing. So why let it go to waste? They fix it up a bit and let other people use it, so maybe others will find inspiration where theirs left off.
