A single memory filled her mind, though Ben knew all too well what it was. She sat facing him, an apothecary table in-between them. A deck of newly opened cards was thrown carelessly across it, the Joker the only card face-up. It's smug grin looked at her with such a disapproving manner.

She had taken to heart her first words to him like a prayer before bed, the smile he replied so seemingly innocent still logged in her thoughts, almost an ironic reminder of her situation.
