It tears me up to see siblings hate each other, and I mean beyond the normal capacity of sibling rivalry. I always ache for those friends of mine whose brothers and/or sisters back-stab and disown them for no reason at all. And it disgusts me to see grown men so obsessed with proving their masculinity that they refuse to ever hug a male friend or relative.
I don't have a biological brother, but I have a friend 9 years younger than me who I've known all his life, and we are so close that, although we are both the only children in our separate families, we consider ourselves brother and sister. We've adopted each other. He means the world to me, and I can't imagine how one can love a brother without showing it.
That's why I drew this picture. Remember, the last time you saw your brother may very well be the last time you'll ever see him in this life. Don't end up regretting the tender words or the hug that you never gave him. ^_^
Fourth Sideshow Bob pic in four days. Wow. Am I obsessed or what? 8D
No particular story behind this piece. No idea why Bob's in the hospital. Could be his heart defect, could be anything. He could be distraught because he's received a grim prognosis, is about to undergo major surgery, or he could just be hamming it up. Whatever the reason, Cecil is definitely sympathetic.
A note on the fine details: the bruises on Bob’s arms are the result of failed attempts to insert an IV. I often come home from the hospital with bruises on account of my smaller-than-average veins. His right arm looks a little puffy. That was honestly an accident that I didn't bother to fix, but we can just chalk it up to the saline solution. It tends to do that to you. As I was finishing up I realized I’d forgotten to add those wire thingies that they tape to your chest to monitor your vitals. Adding them at the last minute made them look kind of sketchy, as you can see them coming up from under Bob’s hospital gown.
I think I enjoy putting Bob in vulnerable positions a little too much. Again, I do apologize if my art offends anyone. If anyone understands what it’s like to see a loved one sick in the hospital, it's me. Those of you who know me well enough will remember that my mom spent a month and a half in the ICU (so heavily sedated that she was never truly conscious during my visits) before she passed away in June 2009. Those 46 days were the hardest thing I have ever had to endure, and the fact that I’ve moved on from it unscarred is nothing short of a miracle.
Looks like I'm on a Sideshow Bob kick right now. Why? Dunno. I've always liked him, yeah, and you gotta admit, he IS über sexy with all that hair you could get lost in for weeks, and that voice that can tell you to f--- off and still manage to melt the butter in your pocket. XD I've never been a fan of the potbelly, though, which is why I never draw it.
Aaaaanyway... about this pic. Initially I wanted to go for some element of angst, so I chose to make use of Bob’s supposed congenital heart defect, as mentioned in the episode “Funeral For a Fiend” (season 19, episode 8). Hard to say whether his heart problem is canon or not, since he faked cardiac arrest in that episode, and I don’t believe it has ever been mentioned again before or since.
Here Bob and Cecil are reenacting a murder scene from one of Shakespeare’s plays, and Bob, rather than admit that he’s confused a line from “Hamlet” with “Julius Caesar,” has decided that the nobler thing to do is fake a heart attack. As melodramatic as he normally is, I can easily see him working himself up into an actual cardiac episode while acting out some over-glorified death scene.
...and he knows darn well that his message may be lost on some people, particularly outside of Britain. But he doesn't care. Your ignorance isn't his problem. >:3
I honestly had no idea what the "V" sign meant in the UK until just recently. I think, wherever you are, it's probably best to avoid wishing anyone peace or ordering two of something just in case someone takes it the wrong way.
I'm not sure whether to label this pic as "mature content" or not, or what mature content category to place it under, but if anyone does find this offensive, please let me know and I will go ahead and label it as such.
I really, truly don't mean this to be offensive to anyone, especially the British. I'm actually what you might call an Anglophile. If I ever manage to venture outside the US, England is the very first place I'm visiting! (And I promise to behave myself while I'm there) ^_^
I am so, so sorry I took so long to update this comic! I just forced myself to stay up super late in order to finish this page. The good (or bad) news is, it's almost done. Four or five more pages ought to do it.
