Best of... Weekly Photomanip Features v.2 #2The second edition of the revamped series! View the first issue hereBest of... Weekly Photomanip Features v.2 #22 months ago in Personal More Like This
These features are reboot of the original series of newsletters started by me and *Lareth way back in 2007, with help from our friends *Iardacil and *SylwiaS, which ended in 2011 with its #189 edition Best of... weekly photomanip features #189
Being recently returned to a more regular visits status here on dA, I figured what better to showcase the new talent that has invaded the photomanipulations gallery than to reboot this series?! So here it is, back, once again, designed to shine a light on talented artists who deserve your attention.
I will always choose 15 manips from the week that passed. The criteria for selection is simple. They have to present creativity, polished technique and overall good quality. The kind you know when you see them, because they're just eye-catching.

lunebleu On Commercialism And A Look At Her Art`LuneBleu was recommended to me for this series of interviews, and I'm glad that she was able to share some of her time with us. If you're interested in commercial work, this is a good place to start. I feel the information is very valuable, and I hope you feel that way too.lunebleu On Commercialism And A Look At Her Art7 months ago in Personal More Like ThisQ. What would a beginner deviant who is interested in commercial work in photomanipulation need to know to get started?
As far as what a dA beginner must know about the commercial ways of photomanipulation is not that complicated.
Yes, in my opinion it is important that you're able to deliver a good product. The happier clients are with the result of your work, bigger are the chances that you'll get more clients in the future.
Try to keep your page professional and clean. If you really want to be a working artist, you must show yourself as a professional.
Create several folders showing different aspects of your art; the more versatile you are, the client range will also be bigger. If in the fu

Catching up With ~dionn-k~dionn-k won the ethereal competition at the beginning of the month and we had a chance to catch up with her about photography, friends and the future.Catching up With ~dionn-k7 months ago in Personal More Like This
What first went through your mind when you heard what our theme was for the competition?
When i first read about the competition and the theme, my mind immediately wondered off to images that represent a delicate beautiful girl with something of an imaginary scenery.
What was your inspiration? What inspires you?
My inspiration was odd, so to say, a group of dried bushes near my house. I get inspired from everything and anything around me; it can be a song, the landscape, the weather (good or bad) or even a piece of clothing. I can be walking on the street and get new ideas out of nowhere.
Tell us about the model in the photograph.
The model in the photo is a dear friend of mine, and one of my favourite models to work with aswell. I like pushing my limits, putting my models in not so convenient situations, and she always

On labels and loveWhat's in a label? On labels and love7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Labels sometimes have their purpose. Harmful if swallowed. May cause drowsiness. Do not drink alcohol while using this medication. Right? But, labels should (almost) never be used for a person. Still, we like to label folks for various reasons. I think we have a natural proclivity toward sorting things, putting them into neat little classes so we can understand them. And again, to some extent this habit of classifying things may be helpful; it lets us make sense of the world and relate to it in the best way we can.
But, labels can be destructive because it is easy for negative connotations to become attached to them. We relate to the world based on linguistic constructs (nuances of language). When labels become attached to an otherwise innocuous word, then you are not only transmitting the word when you speak the label, but you are also transmitting the meaning and feelings that go along with it. In other words, if you
Hey, #GimmeFeedback! Talk to me! :DHi guys!Hey, #GimmeFeedback! Talk to me! :D4 months ago in Projects More Like This
I'm back in the Founder's seat of #GimmeFeedback due to some time constraints ~Hixateez had. I'm waffling between just deleting the group versus trying activities one more time. This is such a cool project and was the first of its kind; I hate to just delete it. That being said, alllllll I am doing these days is declining deviations because people are not reading the rules and providing feedback BEFORE posting.
I am willing to give it one more go if you are. ~Hixateez had some really really cool ideas, including featuring members and having more educational blogs. I'm open to anything, but the thing is I don't have a whole ton of time right now. So, I'll need partners here who can do more than offer to help-- that is, who will actually roll up their sleeves and get a bit dirty. I promise to do the same.
There are a lot of things we can do together:I don't know if you've seen my Feedback journals for the photomanipulation community over in :devcommunit

What Makes A Good Macro Shot:
There are a few things that make for a good macro shot.
Good focus is the biggest thing. That's why macros are so facinating, they show us facinating things. A spider's 8 eyes, for example, or an ant's face. A macro shot can being us closer to what we're familiar with and love, and they can also bring us into alien landscapes.
Macros can also show great motion, smoke drifting away from a cigarette or match, a spider getting ready climb across his web, or a drop of

So I have been sitting here listening to this wonderful song by DJ Encore ft. Engelina called Talk to Me. If you are interested in listening to it you can find it here: http://youtu.be/IgQHFNSAe5Y. Well as I was listening to the song I was browsing the community and I have to say I am a bit saddened by some of the things I was seeing. I saw a lot of negativity in how artists were interacting with each other within comments and critiques as if they were competing for some mean-spirited award. I do not know what exactly is going on that has turned so many people hostile but it needs to stop. We are not here to compete with one another. This is supposed to be a sanctuary where artists come together to share our art with each other and encourage one another. Yet, we are tearing each other down? We are attacking CVs? We are throwing fits over who received a DD and who did not, who has the most pageviews, and who has the most favorites. I even saw popular artists belittling begin

Community Projects on deviantARTWelcome!Community Projects on deviantART2 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
Welcome to Community Projects on deviantART, which will be housed in the "unofficial official" group #CRCommunityProjects. Community Projects is back, and we're really excited about working with you to help you meet your goals in running your own community projects!
What is a community project?
A community project is a project or contest that is designed by community members to promote a positive, supportive environment here on deviantART. Community projects build community spirit and help all of us to grow as artists and as individuals. They have specific goals and serve to bring people together. These projects are supportive of artists and of artistic growth and provide a stepping-stone to help people achieve their goals.
What our team does
#CRCommunityProjects is designed specifically to support community projects and the community leaders who run them. We can be involved as much
Gallery Restructure: Photomanip and Mixed MediaWhat is this gallery restructure about?Gallery Restructure: Photomanip and Mixed Media2 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
How many of you get confused about which gallery to submit your art? I know I do sometimes, and I hear frequently that others do as well. This is your chance to help reduce that confusion!
The overall goal of the dA-wide gallery restructuring project is to reduce redundancy and make submitting art a lot more straightforward by making sure there is a home for every type of art. $Moonbeam13 gives more information about the project here:
For our part of the project, we will be considering restructuring the Photomanipulation and Mixed Media galleries.
In other words, we are looking for:Sub-categories that are superfluous and can be removed
Sub-categories that need to be added
Sub-categories that could be merged
Sub-categories that are great and should be left alone
Both the Photomanipulation and the Mixed Media galleries have the

Photomanipulation Legends: Nina-YPhotomanipulation Legends: Nina-Y4 months ago in Interviews More Like This
First we learned her bloody method.
Then we learned her other bloody method.
Now, we take a peek at photomanipulation through her eyes.
Who is Nina-Y?
Stylish, inventive, intense, and a bit dark, in a delicious way-- these are words I would use to describe the art of *nina-Y. Nina is an Irish photomanipulator and photographer who has been making deviantART more hauntingly beautiful for almost 10 years now. As one of our more senior members, she has set a high mark of excellence in her work that is inspiring to all. Moreover, she is kind and supportive of other artists and a great source of inspiration. Whether serenely beautiful or delightfully jarring, Nina's art demonstrates technical prowess and polish that comes with having spent a great deal of time paying attention to details and careful learning of her craft.
I was honored that she granted us an interview, and I am pleased to present that interview below.

Photomanipulation: A personal featureI have always refused to give a list of artists I admire most on dA, since I will undoubtedly leave someone out by mistake and end up hurting their feelings.Photomanipulation: A personal feature2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Nevertheless, the following art is only a small sampling of my very favorite photomanipulation and mixed media artists on dA. Some of them are extremely (and deservedly) well-exposed, whereas others don't get the traffic they deserve. I hope you love this feature as much as I do. I will share my other faves with you soon!!! There are many!

The City in the Sky:iconcommunityrelations: #communityrelations :iconcommunityrelations:The City in the Sky1 year ago in Projects More Like This
The idea of community today, versus thirty-years ago, has an expanded meaning, albeit the term still has the same connotation. Derived from the Latin communitas (cum meaning, "with/together" + munus, meaning "gift"), community used to basically refer to a group of people with something in common: A community as in a housing edition or apartment building; a commune where people work to be self-sufficient heavily relying on each other; a congregation of a religion that holds a common belief; even an entire small town or rural area of farmers is referred to as a community. Today, with the Internet available to so many people around the world, community has a broader meaning. People with a common interest, regardless of location and distance between those

It's my great pleasure to bring you an interview of a fantastic young photomanipulation artist, *Aelathen (formerly VikkiGothAngel), conducted by one of the photomanipulation community's legends, `LuneBleu. Please enjoy.
- Jade (^Aeirmid)
Please introduce yourself.
Hello!!!My name is Carina Grimm; before I used to have the nickname of VikkiGothAngel here on deviantArt. I am 18 years old and living in Portugal.
When and why did you join the deviantArt community?
I joined deviantArt 3 years ago because I wanted to share my art with this community as well as meeting artists with the same interests as mine.
Do you have some sort of Art Education?
No, I am completely self taught; I've never had any art courses, and I am quite glad because of that.
What were your first thoughts when you first contacted with Photomanipulatio
Have you loved on your stock providers today?Free stock!!Have you loved on your stock providers today?3 months ago in Digital Art More Like This
Did you know that dA has thousands and thousands of stock photographs that you can use for FREE, and they're right at your fingertips? Have you visited the Stock & Resources gallery today?
I've heard so much complaining going on around here over who can use what stock and when and where and why and how . . . and now I'm hearing people trash our stock providers. That's where it needs to stop, because those providers have done nothing to us except spend hours upon hours taking, preparing, and uploading stock photographs for us to use. And there are some really gorgeous ones out there for all our stock needs.
The biggest complaint I hear now is that some of the stock providers here disappear, so we can't contact them for commercial permission if we want to expand our portfolios. I agree that that can be a problem, but it's a problem anywhere-- not just on dA. What can w
