Colors of the Rainbow -Pink-Hello again, it's been a while since my last feature. Almost two years. But I'm back again and hopefully for a while.Colors of the Rainbow -Pink-4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Now before we jump into the wonderful art, I need to make a little announcement. I will be taking requests for the next installment. It takes me a long time ti find all this art and I'm rummaging through the very catacombs to find some of it. lol Send me a note titled "feature request" with the art you think should be featured.
The next feature will be RED
Must be under 150 faves.
No older the 2009. (because let's face it, nothing worse then an ancient piece getting featured when you such better things in your gallery)
You may request your own pieces.
You may request even if you've been in a previous installment.
Just because it's suggested doesn't mean it will make it in. But I'm not that picky, so it probably will anyway.
And finally, it must be amazing, fun, and wonder
The Attitude Behind Learning to DrawOkay, so this is a topic that has come up a couple of times over on Facebook, and something I thought worth mentioning. The Attitude Behind Learning to Draw6 months ago in Personal More Like This
I remember back when I was in high school and I had those really artistic friends that could draw pretty much anything. They were amazing. Absolutely incredible. And I knew I would never be able to accomplish the kinds of art that these wonderful people could produce. I know people would ask them (and I was probably included in this group) questions like "How do you get good at drawing?" or "How can I learn to draw like that?" Little did I know that after walking the road to becoming an artist I would end up receiving the same questions. There are a couple of trends I've heard lately, however, that tend to go the same way over and over with different people. Here's the way some conversations go these days...

How long have you been on DeviantArt?
WOW 5 years now apparently!
What does your username mean?
A good question and most of you know now, Gneiss-Chert is geology humor for Nice Shirt. I chose it because some of my best school memories where from geology in college.
Describe yourself in three words.
This seems a bit egotistical, but, overly friendly, helpful, and fun.
Are you left or right handed?
What was your first deviation?

What is your favourite type of art to create?
That is a tough one but I would have to say sculpture!
If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Painting, like oil and water color XD
What was your first favourite?
OH man making me dig now XD Apparently this sweet picture:

deviantART has given me the opportunity to perform two Community Volunteer positions here:
I am the Science Fiction and Space Art Community Volunteer.
I am also now the new 3 Dimensional Art Community Volunteer.
One of the duties of these positions is that I can feature artwork from these categories as Daily Deviations.
I browse through these categories daily in search of deviations to feature as Daily Deviations.
This feature is to help the artist and their work gain more exposure, and it's genre and/or medium gains more community awareness as well.
But I need your help.
Have you seen a work of art here on deviantART which you have found so impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large?
Do you know an artist of whom deserves much more exposure?
Would you like to put a smile on someones face and make their

It takes me a while to put these together, so if you commented on my other journal to be featured, please take a look at everyone else's work too. After all, it's only fair that way and if you don't, it's just a little selfish and your conscience will bug you . So yah, share the love, guys! Faving this journal might help
These are ordered first come first serve style; I will be showing around 50 pieces at one time (I still have a lot to go through and it adds up every time i put up a feature journal), and be featuring once a week as to not clog up your message boxes. It'll probably take ....a few months, so please be patient!

Issue No. 5|Archives
Charles Dickens wrote “A Christmas Carol” in 1843, the story that has ever since come to embody, as has the entire legendary life of its author.
The true spirit and eternal hope for a more prosperous and more just coming new year that the best sentiments of the winter holiday season have always been all about. Dickens was the champion of the poor and downtrodden, never forgetting the humiliation of his father being thrown into debtor’s prison, which precipitated the young boy’s forced abandonment of school in order to work in a factory. The illiterate poor returned Dickens’s love and affection, paying their hard-earned half-pennies just to have the monthly installments of his latest novel read to them from the newspaper.
Geeky Pics: Dungeons and DragonsI recently obtained (da na na na!) the new Capcom game Dragon's Dogma and can't help but remember my D&D days when playing it. So I thought for today I would let loose a set of geeky pics, to pay homage to that most classic of geek hobbies, the tabletop RPG. Dice and miniatures, maps and DM screens, monster guides and character sheets… let us take a moment to bring these things out of the basement and into the light. And in honor of the departed Game Master of all Game Masters, Gary Gygax, the focus here is on Dungeons & Dragons in particular. For sharing their geeky pics with the world through Creative Commons, these photographers all get +1 charisma.Geeky Pics: Dungeons and Dragons3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Note: This was written by me on thepenspointofview.tumblr.com .
If one of your biggest problems is making believable, yet interesting dialogue then here’s some good advice for you to know:
-Listen to people who walk by you in the streets, hallways, etc.
This does sound a little weird at first, but listening to people and just the random blurbs of information they spout can actually not only help the creative juices start to drain, but help you make the things your characters say realistic and believable.
-Use contractions and accents.
Contractions are great tools for dialogue, even if they aren’t so good to use in typical professional wri

In July 2011 I became a staff member for deviantART, I work in the Copyright and Etiquette Administration (CEA), we're the guys that get to look at all the stuff you report. As part of the CEA team I've had the pleasure to help educate people on our policies. Am I ready to start freelancing?Hi,Am I ready to start freelancing?3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I think that anyone with at least "good" artistic skill, and a willingness to work hard, can find enough art job opportunities to stay busy and bring in some money. (However, there is a lot of competition, here on DA, AND out in the real world, so you have to be ready to put some effort into it.) This particular discussion deals with commissions (finding clients who need art and providing that art... as opposed to creating a body of work and then trying to sell it.)
The time, effort, and thought that you put into art makes it valuable to you. For art to have value to anyone else, it has to make someone think or feel something, or someone has to believe that it will benefit them in some way, or satisfy a need.
If you are going to be a successful artist you just have to produce art that will be valued as much (or more) by a client is it is valued by you, and then successfully sell it. this requires a lot of art skill, a lot of marketing skill, connections, luck, or some com
The stuff that artists go through. There are so many pro's and con as to being an artist, professional or as a hobby. The stuff that artists go through.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It feels nice to be able to express yourself through something you make and when that something turns out to be looking good we get this sense of accomplishment.
Most of the time though there are bad feelings mixed with the good ones.
Not being understood. Those moments where your friends or family does not understand that you have to desire to be alone and work on your art. Those copious amounts of hours you spend working and they wonder why you wouldn't rather be outside relaxing in the sun or hang out with your friends.
The only people who will ever fully understand this are other artists or simply very understandable people. It's important they they will eventually understand so there wont be any hurt feelings. Try to explain ti as calmly and rational as you can, perhaps with using examples in terms they would understand.
Avoid getting ripped off by a client. As a freelancer most of your business takes place online, which makes it really easyAvoid getting ripped off by a client.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
for people to rip you off. How many times have we seen the following scenario's:
1- Someone offers a descent payment for your artwork but wants you to do an art-test first.
after the art-test you're being told you're not good enough. Later you find out that other people
got to do different art-test topics and also weren't good enough. The client clearly ripped people off to get free artwork.
2- Someone offers good money for your artwork. The sketch gets approved so you continue working. Right when it's done the total image suddenly becomes a great disappointment and the client ends up not paying you.
These were just 2 examples of situations that happen a lot to freelancers. There are many more like it.
How to detect if a client is a bit fishy...
Does their email address look professional? Some legit people may use their Gmail address, with their real name or nickname, those are questionabl
PE: How to Draw Anime ClothesPE: How to Draw Anime Clothes9 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Whilst these ideas are not unique or special to anime and can be used in other styles, the focus of this article will be the anime style. Clothing is a diverse topic that has a lot of shared principals that can be used.
The fibres that are used to make up a fabric sample are diverse and can be used to make a number of different fabric types. Using a simple search for a type of fabric yields hundreds of images that give you an idea on how it bends and folds and flows.
Take for example these sample top materials:
Mix of polyester and cotton, leather, silk, cotton, polyester-cotton, polyester spray jacket.
They all have different fold patterns and interact with the light source differently. The leather, silk and spray jacket are quite shiny on their ridges.
The hoodie and t-shirt have less rigid folds, whilst the cotton shirt has sharp angles.
10 Reasons You Shouldn't Quit ArtYou know i keep my journals short, so i'll jump right to it.10 Reasons You Shouldn't Quit Art4 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
1. When you get an idea for a character, or an illustration or a comic, you can just draw it. You don't have to browse and see if anyone else drew it already, or commission other artists to do it.
2. If you get really good at art, your favorite artist might watch you back.
3. You might eventually get paid for it.
4. Because even if there's tons of art out there, and many great artists, no one, and i mean NO ONE can ever draw what you draw. There can be similar ideas, but only you can bring your particular flavor of art to life.
5. The awesome comments. The better you get at art, the more awesome and elaborate comments you get. Who doesn't want to get praised?
6. Art trades with really good artists!
7. Because quitting is lame.
8. Because when IRL people ask you what you do and you say you're an artist, you get the most interesting reactions. It never gets old.
9. Because you get to browse the internet a
