What Spyro's Kingdom WasWe finally have visual of what the first game concept of what Spyro's Kingdom looked like. What Spyro's Kingdom Was3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Apparently, this game was originally going to be a MMORPG, in the Legend of Spyro-themed universe. The Portal of Power is mentioned, and we were going to have to use toys to play as our dragon characters in the game world. And just like Spyro's Universe, we customize our lairs. This game idea was proposed to Activision, but it was rejected.

Chances are you're here for one of a few reasons:
1) You were attracted by the title
2) You're here to prove me wrong
3) A combination of the above
4) You're an idiot
Well, in all honestly, I can assure you, you WILL be a better artist after you read this article.
Now, before I get started, I want to explain the purpose of this article. Its not a tutorial, its not me telling you what to do, its not 'OMG! I CAN HAZZZ FREE SKILLLZZZZZ?!?!?!!11one!!!' no no and NO! I suppose you could call it some suggestions. When ever I ask people 'how do you get so good?!' or 'do you have any tips??' All I ever really get is ' practice' ' practice' 'FFFFFFF PRACTICE NOOB!' But fact is, that isn't all there is to it. So what I'm hoping to do is go

The best of all is that note clearly indicates who this was written TO because of the language our president used on it, so we all can know who did it, since only one of our neighborings speaks that dialect
The point is (in my opinion): Does an elevator really take that long that you can't wait a LITTLE bit more??? :iconwhywouldyoudothatplz: lol it seems some people get exasperated so easy. Dunno why but I totally imagine our president also putting chairs for the
Artist Intent vs Fan CriticismsThis has been a subject I've been interested in for years, and one which I personally struggle with on a near constant basis: Artist's intent versus fan criticisms. Before we begin I just want to make this clear that this journal is NOT about "ignoring criticisms" or any sort of endorsement of such an action. I'm gonna be accused of it, of course, but I just wanted to get that out of the way right now.Artist Intent vs Fan Criticisms2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As I've been observing fan interactions over the years I've noticed a severe increase in a sense of entitlement: IE: that if you love something enough you have a "right" to force the creators to change their content to suit your personal preferences. We saw this play out to the extremes this past summer with the Mass Effect 3 ending debacle, and we see it play out to a much lesser extent here on DA quite a bit.
Artists need feedback and criticisms to grow and improve their work, but at what point does it move beyond offering suggestions to help an artist improve to outright de

I'll be featuring amazing animation, helping newbies get their feet wet and how to upload your animations to deviantART. I will also be talking about web animation sensations on websites such as Youtube and Newgrounds.
Before we start, I'd like to push my Art History articles - I wrote two journals about the History of Animation up until 1990, so if you feel you dont know your Fleischers from your Windsor McCays then step this way!

ScarsA teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take out a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stomp on it and really mess it up, not to rip it. Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty it was. She then told them to tell it they're sorry. Now, even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bullies another child, they may say they're sorry, but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home. Copy and paste this if you are against bullying.Scars3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Bla bla bla. Independence. 1776. America. John Adams. Hooray.
So there's been this "internet declaration of independence" that's been going around the web recently, and to be honest I think it's a load of bull. As much as I love free speech and rights and etc, I simply can't get behind it, and it disturbs me that so many companies ARE getting behind it. There's just too much entitlement from people on the internet who think they "deserve" everything, and it's really beginning to creep me out. I'm all for abolishing SOPA and ACTA other things like it, but I just can't in good faith get behind the "internet declaration of independence." Sorry.
What's with this weird anti 4th of July backlash that's going on? All the people complaining about the "patriotism" and stuff. I know it's always existed, but I've never seen it this massive before. Do people really just not understand the point of holidays? It's lik

Overcoming Creative BlockI think every artist has creative block from time to time. A friend of mine did recently, so I typed up my own remedy for it. And I liked how it turned out, so I think I'll post it here too. This is my advice on how to get past creative block - whether it's art block, writer's block, etc.Overcoming Creative Block1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Here's what you do -
Go find a book or comic book you haven't read. Read it. If you haven't read the Bone series by Jeff Smith, or the Bakuman series (it's a manga), then go find those, and read them. Read the Inkheart trilogy. Read Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. Read Endymion Spring. Find a story and lose yourself in it.
Watch animated videos and movies you haven't seen. Here's a playlist of animated videos I liked. Pick a few and watch them, and really think about the artwork being created there. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?listLkDDYT9uliZfNKCIelqyVcQO_p_e0O7Jn&feature=mh_lolz

The Role of Men in Geek SocietyThis is a reposting of a tangent I went off on over on Twitter the other day (with some extra clarification added to make it a little more cohesive). I felt that in the wake of all this GamerGate/Feminism/Women in games/comics/geek culture stuff going on that I should at least talk about men’s relationship to it all. So here ya go!The Role of Men in Geek Society8 months ago in Personal More Like This
It's not that harassment of men doesn't happen, it's that women are far more likely to get harassed and have it be gendered and much worse (source: http://time.com/3305466/male-female-harassment-online/ ). I've never been harassed because I'm a man. But nearly every one of my female colleagues have been harassed because they're women. Men don't get harassed the same way as women. Their insults are usually directed at opinions, not their gender. Women, on the other hand, usually get BOTH.
It also seems like there's more harassment now than before, but that's because there are more women IN those geek stratus and we ha

After a whole lot of effort, Claire Hayes (producer) managed to get on the phone with Valve's head of legal, and not only do we now have their express approval to make the film, AND to raise money for the production (!!!), but we even got praise for what we've done so far!
I love the smell of victory in the morning. It smells like napalm.

Honestly didn't see that one coming, but I am happy nonetheless. While the first game wasn't very remarkable, I just love the art style and the stark contrast the game presents compared to every other post-apocalyptic-near-future-world that exists. Chock me up to interested.
Didn't see this one coming either. Quite surprised, but personally don't care. I've never really paid attention to fighting games much, yes even Super Smash Bros. I have a feeling this will be one of those games that we think will be amazing, but the newest generation of kids won't understand why they should care (kinda like DuckTales).
Sidenote: Quite disappointed with the way they handled the demonstration by bringing out a woman to play multiplayer with and "destroying" her while simultaneously saying shit like "just give up... it will be over soon." Scripted or not, that scene was appalling.

I'm... actually quite disappointed by this as

Hello Everybody and welcome to my Stamp making guide. You may be wondering, why is TheSaltyMonster making a stamp guide? Well the answer is because a lot of people have been asking me how I make my stamps, and how to get started. So here it goes, and pardon the journal title. Please also check out the stamp feature towards the end of the journal
If you use any of the resources I have included in this journal, make sure to credit the original artist in your deviation description
How to get started..
Well, first things come first: What do you want to make a stamp about? Is it dA related, is it of your favorite TV show, or food? Or is it just an inspirational quote?
This is absolutely the first step in planning.
Is your message funny, girly, cute, serious? Depending on the type of message you're going to be portraying, you need to choose an appropriate stamp:
