Unstable Cannibal Zombie Bunny NunsI recently learned that the stereotypical "Japanese Fan Girl" is not some sort of mythical sasquatch of popular culture. I know they exist because my work somehow attracted the attention of one.Unstable Cannibal Zombie Bunny Nuns2 years ago in Personal More Like This
She showed up online one day and started posting weird fan-art and (thanks to google translate) weirder messages.
It was amusing, if a little creepy. Especially when someone found a few pictures she had drawn of a decidedly underage version of myself being violated by tentacles.
I let that slide because, hey; she was a Japanese Fan-girl. They're innately odd.
But then it turned out she was actively following me around the internet, frequenting the same sites and forums as me. Specifically B3TA; a place where you really shouldn't go unless you speak English, have a tough skin and an understanding of serrated British humour.
Fan-girl did not, and was subsequently torn to shreds.
Despite everyone's advice, however (including mine and most of the B3TAns) she kept going back. As such, I don't have m
Smoothing, Sanding, & Buffing Polymer ClaySmoothing, Sanding, and Buffing polymer clay is definately something that you don't hear a lot about in the younger polymer clay community, but it certainly does make your pieces look a lot better in the long run. If you smooth, sand, and buff your clay AND add a layer of varnish - watch out, your pieces will look as bright, beautiful and glossy as a piece of delicious candy.Smoothing, Sanding, & Buffing Polymer Clay5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Have you ever noticed that translucent clay really isn't THAT translucent? Well, if you smooth, sand, and buff it - you'll be seeing differently! It really DOES get see-through!
Give these tips a try, and although I can't guarantee that you will get it right the first time, practice makes perfect, and sometimes new techniques take a little getting used to before you find a way that works the best for you.
Smoothing your clay is what you do to your clay before you bake it. Running your fingers along the surface and smoothing out bumps and impurities can work wonders on a piece and give it a ve
Of art and being a scientist[Original post on my blog]Of art and being a scientist1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I have been meaning to write this blog post for a while, but did not really know where to start or how to it would come out.
Although I do not talk very often about anything other than my art stuff here, I have mentionned before that I am a scientist. I defended my PhD last fall, and am currently a postdoc in a major research institution in the UK that shall remain unnamed...
The few times when I have talked about this, either on Facebook or DeviantArt, I was amazed to see all the enthusiastic comments from science students, scientists and science enthusiasts all around. I also received quite a high amount of mail with questions about being both an artist and a scientist, and balancing both an art and a science career.
I personally find it unsurprising that so many scientific-minded people are also artists - the qualities you need to be a good scientist in
Morrowind FeatureMorrowind Feature2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind is my favourite game of all time, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been planning for awhile to put together a game-inspired feature; unfortunately, it is very hard to find genuine fan art since most Morrowind-related deviations on dA are game screenshots (or manipulations thereof), and I found only a limited number of devs I could use.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Morrowind is an open-ended first-person RPG with an expansive and detailed world, released in 2002. The central plot concerns the deity Dagoth Ur, housed within the volcanic Red Mountain, who seeks to gain power and break Morrowind free from Imperial reign. In addition to the extensive main quest, there are detailed discursive quests for a variety of factions, including various guilds, religious organizations, and aristocratic houses.
Lord Voryn Dagoth had been a good friend of Lord Indoril Nerevar, but they tu

No Death Star for you.I didn't know this until now, but the White House is obliged to respond to to a petition with over 25,000 signatures. This meant they HAD to dignify the request of 30,000+ US citizens that the US construct a full sized, functional Death Star with an answer. No Death Star for you.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not quite sure what percentage of those 30,000+ citizens realise that using a planet-destroying laser to take out people on the planet on which you live is an ever-so-slightly flawed agenda.....

The Background (AR V4 Commentary 1)The background project for now will be a fourth iteration of the AR-15.The Background (AR V4 Commentary 1)3 months ago in Personal More Like This
The goals of this model will be as follows:
1. Improve the level of detail.
2. Make the measurements and proportions more correct (although some changes, like the large pivot pin, will remain).
3. Strengthen the structure and solve failure points like the barrel well.
Making a large package with everything would take forever (because there wouldn't be a definite end point), so what I'll probably do is make one version of each part, release that as a basic model, and then make accessory packs for the sake of variety.
The first part of the model is obviously the lower receiver. The basic shape has been changed slightly to be more faithful to the real thing. The magwell walls are thinner, the bottom doesn't extend down as far, and the rear ring, besides having an interior, extends down the sides of the lower. Additionally, there are some open spaces for the attachment of little parts. Although I'm not putting in sprin
Huge thanks to Elson Wong! For any of my fans who haven't seen this, Elson Wong (darkspeeds on DA) has created an amazing trade paperback collecting the four issues of Sonic Universe that I wrote and drew; Pirate Plunder Panic!Huge thanks to Elson Wong!2 months ago in Personal More Like This
The book looks fantastic and I can't wait to read through it in person. Lots of people contributed art to make the book and I look forward to giving each of them a personal thanks.
It means more to me than I can say that I have fans who care so much about my work and think so highly of me to spend their time and money on such a unique and cool keepsake.
Check out the awesomeness here:http://darkspeeds.deviantart.com/journal/Tracy-Yardley-s-book-just-arrived-438340739

US Government denies existance of Mermaids>>>>http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18692830US Government denies existance of Mermaids2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Really? I mean; really?
The US National Ocean Service had to make a statement that Mermaids do not in fact exist, after they were bombarded by enquiries regarding them in the wake of a programme aired by the Discovery Channel.
"Mermaids: The Body Found" was a work of fiction but was mistaken by a number of people to be a documentary.
I'm guessing they're the same people for whom warnings are printed on Harry Potter broomsticks, reading "Caution: Does not actually fly".......

Okay, so...here's an interesting development. I got a call-back earlier this month from Kroger, a grocery store about 4 minutes from my house. They wanted to hire me as a part-time bag boy. Which....is a bit degrading, but hey, I'll take what I can get at this point. So I went in, had my interview, everything was aces. Filled out the forms for a background check, did the drug test, and waited.
...right. I called up there. They got the drug test back, and everything was good with it. Buuuut nothing on my background check. So, I go online to check my credit report. Apparently, mine and my father's were crossed over. I guess cause we have the same name? But that makes no sense, since our SS numbers are completely different. So, me and my mother, who knows more about this legal mumbo-jumbo than I do, decide to head out and find the answers.
AND SO THEIR QUEST BEGAN!!

Traced BasesA base created by tracing someone else's work.Traced Bases2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Using a traced base is like being the last segment of a human centipede.
You're not even just tracing, you're filling on top of something that was already traced for you.
It's the epitome of laziness. It's recycled shit in your mouth. It's anti-art.
Traced base-ers. They demand credit for supplying you with diarrhea to eat and re-shit.
And that's why I have a project for you.

1950 - Laposky's Oscilon
Our story begins in 1950 with Benjamin Francis Laposky, a sign painter and army veteran who was also an artist and mathematician. In addition to getting a kick out of creating Magic Square Puzzles, Ben created what is arguably the first set of computer generated images, "electrical compositions" using a cathode ray oscilloscope:

Phew. That lighting is hard. I think I will reserve it for more important shots.
Anyway, the first scene I've done of Fire Tiger vs Acid Panther. If anyone's curious.
I won't upload any more scenes, as I'd like the film to be at least a bit of a surprise.
Oh wait, I just realized there are a couple of frames cut off the end. Oh well, not missing much.

You know, yesterday, after my daily shower, while blowing my hair, I took a pair of scissors and I started cutting my hair without thinking. Yes, it's not like I always think but I had this urgency of changing. And the fact is that I spent the past two years complaining that I wanted/want long hair like Rapunzel... whatever.
I think this is the richest collection of artworks I have ever featured here on dA. It's full of my personal favorite works of 2013 that you may enjoy. Show some love to these amazing artworks and get inspired
