I'm begging you.
And I constantly find myself worrying that I have been one or will be one, but so far I think I've done well...
When I was still in high school.. When Thomas and my mom were still alive.. When I was still Agnostic.. When I still had them as friends, we went to a flea market.
Tamara, Caleb, and I were walking around together while my mom and dad were looking at things in another area of the flea market. Tamara and I spotted a bumper sticker on the back of one of the cars that was anti-abortion and we were talking about it and how we liked it. The man running about selling things in front of it apparently had heard us and asked us about it. "So you're admirin' my bumper stickers, eh?" and Tamara, Caleb, and I politely smiled and nodded and told him which one had caught our eyes.
And then he went bat-crap crazy.
He somehow turned a simple thing into a fire and brimstone sermon and began spieling on the religious undertones of the an

This radical Christian's ministry for the poor, The Simple Way, has gotten him in some trouble with his fellow Evangelicals. We asked him to address those who don't believe.
By Shane Claiborne
To all my nonbelieving, sort-of-believing, and used-to-be-believing friends: I feel like I should begin with a confession. I am sorry that so often the biggest obstacle to God has been Christians. Christians who have had so much to say with our mouths and so little to show with our lives. I am sorry that so often we have forgotten the Christ of our Christianity.
Forgive us. Forgive us for the embarrassing things we have done in the name of God.
The other night I headed into downtown Philly for a stroll with some friends from out of town. We walked down to Penn's Landing along the river, where there are street performers, artists, musicians. We passed a great magicia
Being a Christian Manga-ka?Lets face it folks...the topic of Christianity is so unheard of in manga. There are very few "mangas" that solely base there theme towards Christianity. If so, many people believe that it is SO not a manga...just a comic book advertising the Christsian faith just to get you to follow thier religion. I know they're trying to do a good deed and trying to spread God's Word to those who love manga. The cold hard truth though: they're not very good.>__Being a Christian Manga-ka?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
You were created to be God's belovedJesus loves you apart from your actions. Yes, it is good to do good things. And Jesus wants to be involved in every aspect of your life, so part of your relationship with Him is to enjoy working side by side with Him in your ministry and whatever He has given you to do. But know that even if you never did any work for Him, He would still love you and care for you and be part of your life. You were created to be God's beloved3 years ago in Personal More Like This
You are a child of God because of what Jesus accomplished for you. Not because of anything you accomplished on your own. Some people worry and feel bad because they know they are supposed to be involved in ministering to others somehow, but they don't feel like they are living up to their full potential, or maybe they don't feel like they are accomplishing anything for God at all, and so they feel like maybe God is angry at them for not doing what they are supposed to do. But Jesus died so that you could have eternal life (John 3:16), Jesus died so that you could have a relationship with Hi
The Plagues I LOVE the movie, Prince of Egypt. I know a lot of Christians find this film to have too much artistic freedom and to be lacking in Biblical accuracy, but I have found time and time again, value in this cartoon. The Plagues6 months ago in Personal More Like This
I love musicals and operas, because a story told partly or fully with song, has something especially powerful about it. Music automatically makes us feel things, so well a composed song can be very moving, but adding meaningful and deep lyrics with the right music can change a song from moving, to life changing. God created music, He knew what He was doing. There's something so mysterious and supernatural about the power of music.
I say all this because I was listening to the soundtrack of Prince of Egypt recently, something I do often with my little sister. [We LOVE this movie- serusly.] My all-time favorite song off the soundtrack is The Plagues. If you've never seen the movie before [though I doubt it] it includes Moses and Ramseys singing back and forth to each other.

I have just recently received the opportunity to become the "Science Fiction and Space Art" Community Volunteer Gallery Moderator here on deviantART.
I am looking for "Science Fiction and Space Art" deviations to feature as Daily Deviations, and you can help.
If you know of any submissions that you think should gain more exposure and be Featured as a Daily Deviation,
and they are "Science Fiction and/or Space Art"related, send me a DD Suggestion via note.
I have info on my front page regarding how to suggest a DD if you have any questions.
I would prefer suggestions for artists that have less exposure and little to no previous DD's,
but I am not against awarding a Daily Deviation to worthy art from a more well known and decorated artist.
I simply want to try to focus on putting a spotlight on lesser known artists that have amazing art to share, so that their work ma
BirdsSo yesterday, while going out to water the plants in the front flower bed, I noticed three little baby birds that had fallen from their nest. At first I was heart broken, thinking these birds to be dead. Then, upon taking a closer look I noticed that they were still very much alive. My mom marked them as dead and told me to water the flower bed as usual. I couldn't. It broke my heart imagining those baby birds drowning under my hose. My first thought was to call my friend who, I knew, rescued animals all the time. With her help, and a quick google search, I learned how best to help these birds.Birds3 years ago in Personal More Like This
While placing them safely into their nest I realized something. This is how God sees us. We're tiny, and helpless, and fragile, and lost. He could just mark us for dead and send a flood to kill us (he's done it before), but he can't bring himself to do it. He loves us too much to just leave us. So, instead he sends a gentle hand to bring us and put us back into our nest; Heaven.
I think God put
Dark spots in type designType design is all about balancing the black versus white to create a consistent texture. One of the—perhaps more obscure—principles of creating well balanced type is a consistent stroke weight in certain areas—particularly in the joins. This is true even for simple geometric typefaces of which you probably wouldn't expect it if you're not familiar with dark spots.Dark spots in type design2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Dark spots occur in places where two strokes meet and this is particularly true when two strokes meet at a sharp angle. When two strokes meet there is a weight build-up which should be optically adjusted. The letter 'M' for example usually has three dark spots, one for each bend. Adding so-called ink traps [picture below] can get rid of these dark spots but it's quite an obtrusive method. essentially you add an extra vector point in the narrow negative space area and simply widen the area to give the black room to "breathe".
Ink traps are mainly reserved for two things:

What is a Daily Deviation?
The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on deviantART.
A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
The staff/volunteer members responsible for selecting submissions for the daily feature often are open to suggestions and individual community members may direct their attention by noting the appropriate Community Volunteer or staff member with a direct link to the deviation which you are suggesting and a brief description about why you think the work in question should be featured.

R.I.P Robin WilliamsI am totally stunned by the news of the passing of Robin Williams. I don't normally get very emotional about celebrities but I really am upset and shaken by this, lots of tears today.R.I.P Robin Williams6 months ago in Personal More Like This
He was and will always remain a legend in so many ways. I grew up watching him in one of my favourite Disney movies as a kid, Aladdin and of course Jumanji, Hook, Mrs Doubtfire and so many other movies, he was so diverse I loved his comedy and serious roles. Even if I didn't like a particular movie he starred in very much he would always be awesome and would make it worth watching as he had such a great and unique voice and wonderful energy and talent.
This morning the kids and I watched Robots, the first movie of his I could find as our little tribute to him.
R.I.P Robin Williams, you will be sorely missed.
Life is Beautiful...Isn't it?Life is Beautiful...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
There are magical moments in life where I get the opportunity to remember that I'm nothing but an insignificant living being among 8 billion others.. on a planet among 8 in a solar system among billions in a galaxy among trillions and all in one universe-- possibly among others?-- where whether or not I died, would hardly leave a mark even in the face of my own city.
The world goes on without you.
Yet I once realized, that a meaning in life, is to give life a meaning.
Live your dreams! You only live once.
Don't do idiotic dares for the sake of saying you did them-- go tell that cute boy or girl you like them!
Go tell the world your name!
Why must everything be over after one failure..?
Sure, the humiliation of having everyone look down upon you is torture itself... but when you get back up and show everyone that you're somebody, it won't be you who'd be ashamed for not realizing your potential sooner-- but them!
There are mome

I use to believe that people of a different faith were deviating from God. This morning's homily was about two women prophesying and Joshua talking to Moses. This is in the Book of Numbers chapter 11 verse25-29.
"And the Lord came down in a cloud, and spoke unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.

Or, Two O'Clock
A funny thing happened while I was Skyping my parents one night. I was talking to them in Chinese when instead of saying "liang dian" for "two o'clock," I said, "er dian" (二点) instead of "liang dian" (两点). My parents and my sister ended up having a pretty good laugh out of that, and I was totally embarrassed. For those who do not know, "er" is only used to refer to the number itself, while "liang" is used for counting. A grade school mistake, basically.
Although I have been blessed with the ability to speak, read, and write Chinese, sometimes I find myself wishing that I could do it with complete fluency. No more of these awkward phrasings and slipups, or making do with limited vocabulary. But I suppose I'm luckier than others.
Chinese was my first language in both speaking and reading, although I was born in the US. Being that my dad was a poor PhD student at USC, I didn't exactly have very many toys. My mom decided to

Self-injury Awareness Day (SIAD)
Today is Self-injury Awareness Day. While every day it would be utterly wonderful if people could spread awareness, the reality is there is still so much stigma surrounding self-harm and not enough people understand how truly devastating it can be. People don't really want to discuss it, and it's easier to ignore rather than except that someone might feel so unhappy that they feel the need to hurt themselves to cope.
Here, we've included some popular questions people often wonder about self-harm. Hopefully it'll help erase some confusion and help understanding around the subject.
"Whether people have deep wounds or slight injuries, the problem they represent should always be taken very seriously. The size of the wound isn't a measure of the size of the conflict inside."
