Defining Street Photography
by Dave Beckerman
Most types of photography can be easily defined by their subjects. A wedding photographer takes pictures of weddings. A portrait photographer poses someone and takes their picture. The nature photographer covers a wide area, but it is easy to categorize.
Street photography is difficult to define because it can encompass just about any subject.
If I were to ask you to name a few famous street photographers, you might pick, Garry Winnograd, Henri Cartier-Bresson, or maybe Robert Frank. But if I asked you to define street photography – that would be more difficult. You might say that street photography is candid pictures of strangers on the street. That might be a good start, but it doesn’t really describe street photography.
To start with, street photography doesn’t need to be done on

It is absolutely imperative that we protect, preserve and pass on this genetic heritage for man and every other living thing in as good a condition as we received it.

Conifer featureThe annoying part of living where I do is that finding conifer forests is quite hard, scratch that, impossible. I grew up in a small town surrounded by conifer forest on three sides and a lake on the fourth. I know I can't live where there is no water but while living here since 2009 I've realised I need my real forest not the leafy forest. I need pine cones and evergreens. To satisfy my need a little I went rummaging on dA and found a couple of pretty photos.Conifer feature2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It really wouldn't be a feature from me if I didn't have a fav limit so all of these have less than 100, several have less than 10 favs. Several of the ones with few favs are several years old so make sure to give them lots of love!
Btw. still open for submissions to another conifer feature, max 5 photos though and it can be either yours or someone else. Note or comment with your picks.

"My camera has a pets & kids setting but they still come out blurry.
I've tried every setting, so far I've had better results with the "EASY"
setting, but they still come out only decent."
Talty is using a high end Canon Powershot which is fantastic for things like still life photography, landscapes and working up close with static options and scenery. But when it comes to photographing animals and in particular as Talty is attempting - kittens, it doesn't compensate for the difficulties such a subject poses. For example kittens are incredibly wriggly, and as Talty has found, getting them to stay still in any one place is a nightmare! So naturally you need a camera that can al

This is said to be where it all began with Alhazen inventing the first pinhole camera - known as Camera Obscura. Heard the phrase before? Now you know where it originates from! Aristotle observed and noted in around 330BC the optic laws that made pinhole cameras possible and questioned why the Sun could make a circular image when it shined through a square hole.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart. The Echo chamber dilemma3 years ago in Personal More Like This
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.
And this is becoming a growing problem, I think, because n

The Hot Beverage Contest *Deadline extended!Theme: Hot BeveragesThe Hot Beverage Contest *Deadline extended!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I love a steaming cup of tea, but I love curling up with one even more during the winter. During the colder months, others may prefer a cup of hot chocolate, or coffee, or even glühwein, but it's always a comfort to curl up with your favorite when it's cold outside. And with the temperatures dropping and winter approaching, I figured a theme revolving around hot beverages would be fitting.
READ ALL THE RULES.
The main focus of your entry must be a hot beverage.
All mediums are allowed.
Both old and new deviations will be accepted.
The deadline for all entries is January 20, 2012 at 11:59pm EST.
Only one entry per person, but you can choose to change your entry before the deadline.
Note me with your entry. Don't know how to do that? Go here → http://bloodpromiser.deviantart.com/journal/36570739/
If you're confused about anything, feel free to ask. =]
Any prizes will be gratefully accepted, so if you'd like to donate a prize, just not
